“could be much better”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

The place is very expensive and it is expected to be outstanding, but unfortunately is not.

There is an amazing landscape and you can enjoy a relaxing view.

Some rooms are very far from the lobby, at least 5-10 minutes walking. The rooms are in a good size, but some of them are deteriorated and need renovation.

Staff are unpolite and are always very occupied to solve the guest problems.

Between the meals, there are some snacks, mainly hot-dogs.

Don't expect an outstanding place as the prices can suggest.

I don't mind the Club Med has this atmosphere of relaxedness. I also appreciate things are run differently in Latin-America than in, say, Switzerland;

There are some things however I find hard to believe to have occurred in a hotel with Club Med standards:
- We were shown 2 rooms, none with working safe deposit boxes.
- I'm reasonably sure my wallet got stolen on the premisses of the Club. When I reported this, I got the impression they really couldn't care less. No follow-up, definitely not signaled to senior management or ignored completely by them. I had to insist three times on getting a paper stating my wallet was stolen.
- Charging for wireless internet which off course only worked half of the time
- restaurant floors last cleaned when Colombus discovered the Americas

I still give it three stars as the GO's in charge of the kids club were excellent at their job. Kudos to them, they were world class.

Shame the senior management is intent on making this place derelict

This Club Med has a Mini Club 4-7 and a Petit Club 2-3. All the GO's were very friendly and helpful. They made great our stay.
General staff average.
Food was above average for a all-inclusive resort.
Accommodation was just OK ( we stayed on a superior room).
They have inaugurated a supposed to be Zen Pool. In fact we can not agree it is a Zen Pool because kids were allowed to swim and there was not a bar at that pool.
I recommend for locals and Latin America GM's but I would not recommend to someone that would need to take a 10 hrs flight and another minimum 2 hrs airport transfer.

Room Tip: Definitely get a superior room

This is one of the cases when somethings are AWESOME but others are not...therefore I rate average.

For a USD500 dollar a night per couple, you would expect a great room, but they are not. The mattress are notoriously old and also the bathroom appliances. It took two hours for our luggage to get to the room. When we got to the room, there was hair and nose bugs (yes!!!) all over sink. And we lost the first day just waiting for our luggage and for another round of room cleaning. The food is just average, with a few VERY GOOD dishes that finish quickly on the buffet.

On the other hand, the service is great. Guests are very well treated, staff is well trained, the place is gorgeous...

As I said, there are some very very very good things, but also a few very bad things that caused me to rate AVERAGE!

Room Tip: The "BADEJO" building is the farthest to the lobby, restaurants and beach service.

We had a wonderful stay at CMRDP during June this year. We stayed there with some of our friends for a week. Overall very tropical feeling. Previous reviews were a bit harsh!

Location:
It is about 160km south of Rio de Janeiro (Thus it is not that easy to just hop on a bus/taxi to rio). The resort is quite secluded (Nice if you just want to rest and lay back, not so nice if your keen on going around). The excursions are only mentioned on the website(not the price), they can be quite expensive!! Beautiful views from the resort! we stayed on the highest point, lots of walking but man was the view worth it.

Staff:
Very friendly, but only a select few are able to speak English(mostly Portuguese, Spanish and some French).

Rooms:
Most of the rooms are being re-done. We were not as lucky to get a room that was already re-done. But the "old" one was acceptable. Also newly painted. very slight mould could be seen in the shower!! but it is the tropics! Bottled water placed in the room daily. Sadly no room service is provided. So we had to walk down to get any drinks etc. Bed was very comfortable!

Food:
Not as bad as some reviewers make it seem. The variety is ok, it can get n bit boring on day 7. But there is something for everyone. There are two restaurants on site, but the one (Jangada) was only open one night of our stay. And the food is not fine dining quality(But luckily we had a wonderful waiter!) The drinks are also acceptable, the barmen tend to go a bit heavy on the alcohol in the cocktails though! The cappuccino at the bar was horrible!!! bad undissolved powder!!!!

Spa: our friends went for a treatment/massage and they loved it.

Also: Bring mosquito repellent as you walk quite a bit to the restaurant at night etc.

Generally mainly aimed at families with children. Would go again if we had the chance!!

Went to Club Med in Aug 2012 with my family and had a lot of fun. The staff was very helpful and the GOs were fun and had a great attitude (except a couple a girls at the Mini Club who seemed not interested at all). The food was good quality and abundant. The rooms had been renovated and were fair. The kids had a lot of fun. The beach is good and the favorite for the little kids was the river, which is shallow but they loved it! Great pool but water was COLD in August!

Room Tip: Rooms can be far away from the main building and activities. Get a room as close as possible. The do...

Everything everyone says is true, but we still had a SUPER time. Despite an injury in in a place where we don't speak the language!

The Good- well though not nearly as many activities as CM Cancun, still we all had so much fun. I did the fitness, my hubby did tennis/archery and the boys did soccer and archery and wakeboarding. You are in the middle of the rainforest, surrounded by mountains, with the beach right there. Just Gorgeous. Plus everyone took care of our needs very quickly so I am confused about the complaints. Ooh - plus tiny monkeys!

Bad: well not THAT bad, but yes, many GO's speak no English. Not a big deal. They will grab another GO or guest to make sure you understand everything. Plus not enough white chocolate bread. (only2x in 4 days ;()

Ugly: My teens were in the the regular club rooms which were old and moldy. Since they spent about 5 hours a day there just to sleep and shower - we could live with it. The deluxe beach facing rooms were fine.

This resort seems less international- more a place for rich Brazil natives to come and play. Heavy on the kids - say under 8, but it still had enough teens and tweens to keep my older kids happy. And the kids spoke English well enough. Very few Americans.

But most importantly - on the first day, my 12 year old fell on the tennis court and broke her arm. I couldn't ask for more help from them. The "Second -in Charge"(Paolo) stayed with us , organizing a taxi and more help while the nurse called every office/hospital in a 50 m radius to find an orthopedic surgeon with a functioning X-ray. The lovely and sweet Joana was dispatched to translate and she stayed with us for the entire 4 hour trip back and forth. the Orthopedist told us it was broken but we could wait till we returned to do the surgery (which we did). After that, they treated her like a Queen. She got awards and medals and generally made much of. Chris, the tennis coach and of course Antonio (chef-de -village) made sure she felt special. And I felt so safe and taken care of.

We miss Nadia and Caju and Bea and Arthur & Julia all the other great GO's . We are still so grateful to the Nurse & Joana & Paulo. I would recommend this to any family esp. with younger kids.

PS about affordability - Brazil is a lot more expensive than say Mexico. So this really wasn't luxury prices compared to others. (Based on the 5 days prior we spent in Rio -:>)

Room Tip: The club rooms were DISGUSTING! Seriously. The deluxe were the usual club med: clean, spartan and c...
