Debbie Xenia Hotel Apartments
Ranked #55 of 65 Hotels in Protaras
Reviewed July 28, 2012

After a 12 night stay in the middle of July we echo the previous reviews. All staff very friendly, overall quite spacious with good facilities, however many items are in need of replacement/refurbishment. This does appear to be being addressed as the sun umbrellas were being replaced during our stay with the loungers to follow.
We didn't sample the hotel food offerings but found a good selection of restaurants & can highly recommend "Kalamies Restaurant" overlooking the local beach, a far higher standard than the local "Pub fare" but at the same price.
In a quiet location but only a 2 minute walk from the centre of Pernera or 10 minutes bus/drive into Protaras.

Myself and my husband returned from Cyprus (Debbie Xenia) on Wednesday. We were attending a wedding at Capo Bay and so wanted somewhere within a short taxi ride to stay. We stayed half board for one week, and I have absolutely no complaints. The hotel is quite small, with only 35 rooms, but I think this gives it a more homely feel. The staff are all pleasant and hard-working, especially George the young waiter (worked so hard and I think he was only 15).

The only negative thing I could say is that although the hotel is clean, the actual cleaning of the rooms is quite superficial while you are there. The maids just seem to empty the bins and throw bleach / toilet cleaner down the toilet. When we arrived at 3.30 am, we were given the key and told our room was 302, 3rd floor, and that the lift was broken!! Started to think the worse and hoped that this wasn't going to be an indication of things to come. We struggled up 3 flights of stairs with our cases and nearly collapsed; it was still absolutely roasting at 3.30 am. However, by the time we left our room the next morning, the lift had been fixed and didn't cause any more problems while we were there.

Breakfast was served between 8.00 am and 11.00 am and there were a number of choices, including a full english which was lovely and tasty. For the evening meals there was a good variety of choices including traditional Cypriot foods and the usual Omelettes, Burgers, Sausage and Chips etc. Another pleasant surprise was the fact that if we ordered chips, they were freshly home made!!

The hotel is tucked away from the main strip, but is in an ideal position. It is quiet enough to be able to sleep, but at the same point is only an easy 5 minute (if that) to the start of the strip where there are plenty of bars / restaurants, rides for the kids etc. I have a 16 year old son and a 3 year old grandson and I wouldn't hesitate to take both of them next time as there would always be something for both to do.

Since our last trip to Protaras, 8 years ago, a new wooden walkway has been erected on the beach front and this is a lovely and pleasant walk, with plenty of stops along the way to keep hydrated.

We booked a one bedroom apartment as there was not much different in the cost between this and a studio. Air conditioning is 5 euros per day. To be honest, if we go again, we will book a studio. Mainly because the air conditioning is only in the bedroom, so as soon as you walk out of the bedroom, the rooms are like a furnace. As a result we spent most of the time we were in the room in the bedroom or on the balcony; if we had booked a studio, the air conditioning would have worked better for us, as it would be on in the room we were in.

We requested a room with a sea view, and were happy to discover that our room had both a sea view AND a pool view! Even though the hotel was full, we never had a problem getting sunbeds around the pool, even when we were out and did not return until 2 ish. There is a lot of space between the sunbeds as well, which I prefer. The pool area was never full, and actually for most of the time looked deserted!!

I usually ask for a low floor when we travel as a family, but didn't bother this time. We were given the 3rd (top) floor, but this had the advantage that the balcony was roofless, so we tended to get more of the sunshine - result!!

All in all, I can recommend this hotel, we will definitely be back, probably taking our grandson with us. I would say this hotel was most definitely good value.

Room Tip: We were in room 302 and this had both a pool view and sea view. There was no roof on the balcony an...

Have just returned from the Debbie Xenia;
Good points:
The price was reasonable
The Manager, Nicos, and his bar staff were very nice and helpful. Broken fridge was immediately replaced.
Pool area was clean and there were plenty of sunbeds
Quiet area and a good location for the beach and main street.
Bad Points:
The cleaning left a lot to be desired, especially the bathroom. The whole area needed a good spring clean and bleaching! Cleaning seemed to be confined to bed making and a mop down the middle of the floor.
Could do with redecoration throughout
Air con at 5 euros a day which would have meant an extra 70 euros. We rented a fan instead for 10 euros per week but this was inadequate in the heat and the rooms got very hot which didn't make for a good nights sleep.
If you go self catering beware, there is only a small two ring gas hob, a frying pan, saucepan and kettle. and very few utensils. Other items were available to rent.
Pernera itself was family/couple orientated and designed for people with a taste for English pubs and food. The best restaurant by far was The Point. It served extremely good Greek food, huge portions and a good menu. We ate there every night and always had a wonderful meal. The beach (a 5 min stroll from the hotel) was lovely and sandy, good sunbeds/umbrellas and a couple of places to eat lunch. Local transport was cheap (3 euros for a day ticket) and reliable.
Overall if you are looking the a taste of Cyprus Pernera is not the place to go, but if you want a full English breakfast, Sunday lunch and pubs then it is fine.

Stayed for 3 nights apartment was clean but basic with plenty of room and a separate bedroom. Price was 30 euro a night but had to pay 5 euro a night for air con but this was for a party of 4 people and was certainly worth it. Lovely large pool away from all the noise ideal for couples or families. The food was very good and the staff were very welcoming a credit to the management. Only a few hundred yards from the tavernas and restaurants in Pernera. Will definitaly go again.

Room Tip: We had a pool view room and was vey pleased with the location.

We stayed here two years ago.. Actually we were booked in another hotel in Protaras called Trizas. Let's just say, we stayed there the one night because we got in late and had too... The next day we were moved... To here. This was an excellent move ! 3 star , knocks socks of the, also 3 star ( !! ) trizas.. You have all you need for excellent rates..very friendly staff , family run hotel, The owners Nicos and his wife can't do enough for you. .. .absolutely stunning area Within walking distance of most places and short bus ride to anywhere else . Even Protaras is only a 30 min walk along a fairly newly constructed walk way along the sea front all the way. You can't go wrong here... We went back last year and guess what, plane crashes not withstanding, we will be there again on 25th June this year :). Can't wait ...and the Cyprus sun, say no more .. ,

Room Tip: All rooms over look pool ! Bit of a pain if you get noisy inconsiderate neighbours as as with all Cy...

Stayed here for 2 weeks in June 2011 with my girlfriend. We were given a studio apartment, which overlooked the pool. It was clean, spacious and comfortable. Staff were friendly, especially the young boy who served us our food in the cafe area.

Were disappointed that we had to pay extra for air conditioning, which in my opinion should have been available free of charge in such a hot country during the summer months. Resorted to renting a large stand up fan which we hired for the full two weeks.

Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Had great banter with one of the maids who was a local. Although on a couple of occasions we were rudely awoken by the maids barging into our rooms whilst we were still in bed, despite our loud 'NO THANK YOU' to them. Once in, they would clean the place from top to bottom despite you being in bed. May I add, I would rather they did not wash the dishes as not only did this irritate me whilst I was sleeping, but it was also done to a very poor level of cleanliness.

Debbie Xenia is in a great location situated in Pernera. Next door is a supermarket selling pretty much everything you need from postcards to pasta. Make sure you walk along the main Pernera strip and go to Knights Bar for cocktails. maazing strawberry margaritas for 2.5Euros. Ranch bar is great for entertainment in the form of tribute acts. It's great for any age group. My girlfriend and I saw Robbie Williams Tribute, Amy Winehouse Tribute and Elvis Tribute.Local bakery is amazing!

Ate lunch once at the hotel apartments. Wasn't fond of the chicken kebab, but we were luckily self catering, so didn't have to eat there again.

Pool was basic, plenty of sun loungers available. Kids pool available.

Overall very basic accomodation, could do with a lick of paint, but did the trick. Would stay again due to the excellent value for money and location.

The hotel is also within walking distance of Protaras- make sure you pay a visit to Bells Cocktail Bar and Nicholas Taverna Restaurant for some delicious, local cuisine!

Despite the few downfalls of my stay at Debbie Xenia, it is fantastic value for money.
