“Six star staff (and the hotel is lovely too)”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

We've just had ten nights in the Sunrise Pearl and we wished we could have stayed longer. This hotel is an oasis of calm in a busy resort and that is why we picked it. By staying at the Pearl we had peace and quiet but with access to all the activities going on at the Sunrise Beach.

There were a few areas that could be improved -the swimming pools looked beautiful but were too cold for us to swim in, the basins in our bathroom had no plugs to keep the water in and we would have preferred walk-in showers but the hotel is in excellent condition, in a superb location on the sandy beach and the staff are so good we would award them all six stars if we could.
Special praise goes to Stavroula, Suzana and Michael in the restaurant who were absolutely professional but so welcoming that they made us feel like we were with friends. As other reviewers have stated, the drinks are expensive - a bottle of water costs 4 Euros 40 and most wines were over 20 Euros per bottle - but the service is excellent and our glasses were always being topped up by the attentive staff.

The whole hotel, inside and out, is absolutely spotless. Even at this time of year, there are no fallen leaves in the grounds and the lawns and flower beds are well tended. The staff are busy cleaning the outside areas at dawn to ensure the hotel looks its best, and the many glass doors and windows are constantly being polished.
We paid extra for a full seaview room, and the view over the pool and the beach was well worth it. The first few days were very windy so we watched the waves breaking onto the shore, and during the following week when the sea was flat calm we were able to watch people swimming, para-sailing, and lots of boats passing by.

Our room was on the first floor but it was not a suite, it was a double bedroom with a seating area. There was no room divider as in the suites, so we could see the sea from our very large and comfortable bed. We had a small sofa and a very handy fridge and rather than pay the mini-bar prices we bought soft drinks and beer from the nearby Happy Days supermarket. Six 1.5 litre bottles of water were only 1.95 Euros in the supermarket and six small cans of Keo lager were 4 Euros 50.

There is an expanding rail on the balcony to hang wet swimwear on plus two chairs and a small table but the sun left our balcony about 10.30 in the morning. This might be a good thing in summer when you want the room to stay cool but was a shame on these cooler days of autumn. However, the glass panels shielded us from the wind and the view over the pool to the sea was so stunning we just loved sitting there.

For guests like us, who read a lot, there is a cupboard in the part of the Reception area used by Tour Operators where you can swap your books for ones left by other guests. Most of the books are in German, but when we were there last week, there were about 20 English books, mainly for women readers though. At night time there was an outdoors second-hand book stall about five minutes walk away on the main strip, towards the Fig Tree Bay end of the resort. You can also buy new English books in the local shops but they range from 8-12 Euros per book.

The bus stop is about 100 metres away from the Sunrise Pearl and buses go past every 20 minutes or so. We took the 101 towards Paralimni but got off after about 10 minutes at the Golden Coast hotel in Pernera and walked back via the coastal path, and we also took the 102 in the other direction towards Ayia Napa and got off by the Cavo Maris Hotel to walk back along the coastal path from the opposite side. Each of those walks took about 45 minutes and went past gorgeous little sandy bays and rocky headlands and there were plenty of cafes en route.

We also did a longer walk from the Sunrise Pearl all round the coast to Konnos Bay where there is a lovely sandy beach with a taverna. This walk took about an hour and three-quarters but there is a bus stop at the top of the hill above the bay, close to the Grecian Park hotel, so we were able to get a bus back home. Be warned, the buses get very full and sometimes don’t stop as there is no more room aboard. Each bus journey costs 1 Euro 50 when you buy the ticket on the bus.

Do try the icecream from the Patisserie Amelie. It must serve some of the best ice-cream we have ever tasted. The chocolate brownie icecream, the strawberry icecream and the fruits of the forest frozen yoghurt are especially delicious. We tried the Italian restaurant (Marcello’s), but my pizza was a bit disappointing. It looked lovely at first glance, but there were insufficient toppings. We also ate at the Reef restaurant which is situated at the Sunrise Beach hotel, and my husband said his steak was superb. You do have to pay 8 Euros supplement for the steak, but otherwise if you are on Half Board you can swap your evening (buffet) meal at the Pearl for a three course meal at the Reef if you want a change of style. There is a touch-screen machine in the hotel reception to make reservations at the various restaurants and the staff will come over and help you with this if necessary.

We were given a couple of vouchers on check-in, maybe because it was the end of the season or maybe they give out the vouchers throughout the summer, I don’t know. We had vouchers for free drinks at the Verano bar which was interesting with its unusual tent-style roof, but unfortunately there were no other customers. We also had a voucher for 20 Euros towards a spa treatment and I had a lovely facial treatment which was very relaxing. Normal price for that was 80 euros but with the voucher it brought the price down to 60 euros which was still not cheap but it was a very enjoyable end of holiday treat.

Would we recommend this hotel? Absolutely. It was an excellent hotel with superb staff. Not too many children staying there, as families are better catered for at the Sunrise Beach, so perfect for couples seeking relaxation in quality surroundings. We certainly hope to come back here. Thanks to all the staff at the Sunrise Pearl for giving us a very enjoyable holiday. You deserve your ranking on Trip Advisor as the No. 1 hotel in Protaras.

Room Tip: Full sea views are worth the extra money. We loved the view, whatever the weather.

I stayed for a one week at Sunrise Pearl hotel. I chose this hotel as I'd stayed in Protaras 3 years ago. This hotel wasn't built then so decided to try it after reading excellent reviews.
Which were completely true.

ARRIVAL:
I flew with Thomson airways which took 5hours. Good comfortable flight. Transfer from Larnaca airport took 1hr15minutes to & we were 3rd to be dropped off. Rep was on coach from Thomson & good efficient service.
They drop you outside the hotel & porters came to collect our cases. Which i thought was a lovely touch. ( I usually tip 1euro per bag which i think is fair. This however is your preference.)

You follow porter to reception & they hand you a fresh cool glass of orange. VERY welcoming & full of information on room, tea, dinner, facilities available. Fast check in.
Porter takes your bags to room as you follow explains how everything in the room works, very polite & informative.

ROOM:
Has all the mod cons:
-Queen size bed
-Floor to ceiling balcony windows for the amazing view
-32 Inch TV some English channels
-Free use of safe
-Water free,replenished daily
-Sofabed in our room
-Mini bar with fridge & price list. ( we didn't use mini bar instead used the fridge for our waters)
-Use of slippers & white bathrooms included
-Replenished toiletries in bathroom & towels daily
-Shower & bath. Also a rain water shower head which is integrated in ceiling, ultra modern, you can tell hotel is brand new
-Cove & night lighting, Very useful at night
-Balcony with chairs & tables.High balcony glass which i thought is safe for children
-dressing table with mirror & hairdryer in draw
-Tea & coffee making facilities & this is also restocked daily
Lovely rooms, Cleaned twice daily . morning is restocking everything at night they clean bed & floors etc. Only if you wish tho. On your wall is a switch that you flick if you want them to do it, or a don't disturb one.
we went half board so were either out in day or at tea so only saw cleaners once, to return to a chocolate on our pillow was a nice touch.

DINING IN OR OUT:
-Restaurants & bars are a plenty. Island bar in center of hotel-quiet & low key.
Waterfall restaurant is main restaurant where you eat breakfast & dinner & is buffet style help yourself. Open 6.30am til 10.30am then 6.30pm onwards.
-Always something to eat meat wise. Steak,Lamb, beef, chicken lots of different options on same night. Also have hot plate also so you can have food cooked infront of you. Lots of vegetable options also if you are veggie.
-All Displayed at 5star standards. Deserts are to die for & you'll be coming back a pound or two heavier after this. These are fantastic!!
-We went half board & were never left hungry.
-The hotel also has deals with 3 restaurants on the main strip, very close so you can book the night before using machine by reception to eat at either a Greek,Italian or English sports bar. Twice in a week.
So instead of feeling like your missing out you can book to have tea there. The Greek one i wasn't that impressed with, although the English sports bar Rack of ribs pub grub was Amazing.
-You can also swap tea for dinner at the fish bone or minstrel restaurant around the pool, this is worthwhile as the steak is amazing at minstrel restaurant.

-Service in all restaurants in the hotel is amazing they refill your glass, order your drinks & even put your napkins on your lap & pull your chairs out when seated. They will fetch your children if you have any the high chairs. They really can't do enough for you. They are bubbly & friendly & do there job really well.

-Drinks are pricey but this is 5star,so out of the hotel they can be found cheaper if you drink alcohol.
- You can also order snacks & drinks around pool bar, & they will bring them to your allocated sunbeds.

POOL AREA:
- everyone is allocated a sunbed ,you get to choose from which are available. If you are not happy with this this will put you the one you want on reserve until guests have left.
they will try their best to accommodate your request.
-You don't need to take towels as pool towels are given on arrival. you have just go to the pool guy for this. This is great as you don't need extra weight in luggage.
-They have 3 pools all freezing until you have been in the sea & then they are bearable.
1 is children's pool which is a bit warmer as its smaller. X2 jacuzzi bits at edge of pool.
-Shop at edge of pool for papers & inflatables.
-waiter will come around pool area whilst sunbathing to ask you if you need any drinks. (these cost if on half board, or can be added on room bill to be paid on checkout.)
-waitress brings fresh fruit around pool free of charge.
-sun catches pool til 5pm which is fantastic
-Maids always cleaning paths & pool boy cleaning pool. this can be seen on regular basis.
-pool restaurant open 12.30pm til 3.30pm
-Pool areobics

HOTEL FACILITIES:
-Spa in hotel quite expensive although you get a 20euro of voucher on arrival off treatments over 55 minutes. These are 80 euro min.
-pool shop
-lsland bar open til 1am
-internet room that can be used by asking reception. I needed check emails whilst away & this was free of charge.
-free hotel wifi ( can be slow at peak times.)
-Sunrise beach next door is sister hotel & has nightly entertainment. ( Pub quizzes, dancers, guess that tune) & this can be used & drinks put on your tab at Sunrise pearl.

AREA:
-strip is less than 100meters from hotel with bars, shops & mainly restaurants
-You can hire buggy's,Quads or scooters for 20 euros for 2 hrs or 40 euros per day 9am til 6pm. (on the strip you do need take your driving license tho so they can photocopy it,so your insured.)
-We did this & drove Paralimni which was 6km about 4miles away to see the traditional town.
-An another day went Cape greco sea caves which was 6km away & only took 30 mins. well sign posted just down one straight road.
-Ayia Napa is 30 mins away on coach 102 & cost 1.50 euros & is well worth a shopping visit its huge. Bags are cheaper there also.
-An one way back its the 101 again 1.50 euro each no matter how far you travel & buses are every twenty minutes on strip.
-we took a trip to Larnaca Sunday market & camel park for 16euro pp which was from 8.30am til 3.30pm & a fun day out. Can be booked in mini travel shop on strip.
-Boat rides to see dolphins is 10 euro pp & also easily available on beach.
-Jetskis were 30-45 euros ( cheaper on week day) for 20 minutes.)
-Pedalos 10 euros for 30 minutes.
so there is alot to do & we wish we went for a week & couldn't spend more than 70 euros per day as we were half board so no need for food cost , which i find bumps price up.

All in all a fantastic holiday & lots to see & do. Restaurants are a plenty, night life & karaoke bars about if like that kind of thing. Or sea/beach life & scuba diving to do dependant on what you fancy. Mini golf,go karts, bowling around also.
Cyproits love english & can't do enough for you, they are so polite & this keeps me returning again & again. loved our honeymoon . Hotel & sea was the best i've ever been.
5stars Sunrise Pearl, Bellisimo !!!!

Room Tip: I had a front sea view room which i paid for, i think this is well worth the extra money.

We stayed here again in September nearly a year after our first stay. Overall the hotel was as good as our previous stay with excellent service, food, rooms and facilities.

There was a little bit of a kerfuffle when we booked in as the room we booked was supposed to be a sea view and unfortunately we had a room with a view of the restaurant roof. After a few words with reception and the manager we were moved (and offered an upgrade which we refused as we only wanted the view we had booked) so it was sorted out relatively painlessly.

Otherwise it was a great stay in a good quality hotel. Protaras is, as it's reputation suggests a bit down market, but there are still some good restaurants on the strip and by staying in this hotel you can easily just shut out all the excesses of the strip at the end of the day.

Hopefully they wil ensure those who book sea views get them in the future, but I have to say ours was sorted out in 20 minutes so the initial error was not a great problem.

My title refers to you could get bored at this hotel very quickly due to severe lack of facilities and things to do unless you just want to sunbathe all day in peace and quiet which you could probably do at a lot of other cheaper hotels in the same area.

First impression was coach could not enter so dropped at top of the hill and no real sign it was a hotel of 5 star quality. On entering, met by nice reception staff and clean lobby with lots of windows and water.

Asked in advance for a sea view as high up as possible and got a positive email response. Although allocated a junior suite on 1st floor overlooking restaurant / breakfast area but did have sea view. I am sure there are a lot better high up sea view rooms but all the suites are only on 1st floor so be careful to get exactly what you want if you want to be specific.

Porter took bags at entrance to room and showed how everything in room works which was nice. Room very clean and maids do a good job but we also only got turn down service on 1 evening.

Sunbeds are pre allocated which takes out the having the wake up early factor and pool boy is nice and accomodating - There is a small shop near where you get towels to buy a paper (thats about all it is good for).

Pool is FREEZING - colder than the sea during our week - Why do hotels go to all the expense of putting together nice pools, cleaning them, having swim up rooms and bars when no one dares go into the water and those that do must go numb and then cannot get out. So if you enjoy the water then use the lovely clean beach and sea.

There is a kids area / pool and they seem to stay in that area but the odd one strays to adult pool area and nothing seems to be done by the staff except when someone has to complain or say something - They need to be procative not reactive to this.

The games room is a forgettable experince - enough said on that . We didnt venture into the spa and their staff didnt venture out to try to lure you in either.

Breakfast was everything you would hope for although could become very busy and the staff cannot cope with periods of high demand. We did the evening buffet twice and it was average. The dine around and lunch were better so i encourage you to do those instead and maybe have buffet just on your first night whilst you get use to your surroundings.

TV has some english movie channels which was nice. Outside bars show football and also have some good shows (Rockafellas is a good venue for both).

All in all it was a nice holiday as we were very lucky with the weather and 2 england football match wins to keep us entertained. We do love Protaras but unlikely to stay at this hotel again but feel free to ask us anything and we will be honest.

Room Tip: 122 is a first floor suite with reasonable sea view - down side it is right about restaurant so litt...

Stayed in the Sunrise Pearl hotel for a special birthday holiday. We have stayed many times in Cyprus usually n the sister hotel Sunrise Beach. We decided as we had watched e hotel going up, we would try it this year. The hotel is ideally situated for r beach with landscaped gardens. Ample of sun beds allocated for sole use for your stay, which is ideal and solves the problem of getting up early for a dash for the beds! Restaurant in the pool area serves excellent t lunch time meals and staff there are very pleasant and friendly, especially Anna who remembered us from the Sunrise. Breakfast and dinner served in restaurant overlooking beach and pool area, with buffet style breakfast and dinner. Rooms very well styled and beds very comfortable. Reception staff went above and beyond especially Glykaeria who made our stay a memorable one. Easy access to the Sunrise Beach and use of all it's facilities. Would definitely return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Ideal sea view room beautiful views 420

Excellent variety of fresh fish at great price with amazing sea view. The manager of the restaurant was extremely friendly, polite, gave us a great advice in terms of the foods choices, moreover made a great surprise, a small birthday cake without even askin it. Excellent service, quite, romantic place. Would definitely choose it again and recomment to my friends!

We have experienced 5 star hotels in Limassol and Paphos and this hotel doesn't come anywhere near other hotel standards. We were staying for two nights and were upgraded to a garden room with swim up pool. The pool was in fact a tiny narrow 'stream like' bit of water which meandered past three other rooms and was so cold you would have to be a penguin to get in, the room never saw a minutes sun and was overlooked by about 60 rooms in the neighbouring Vrissiana Hotel, I dread to think what the original room would have been like. We had mould round the bath and tiled floors with no rugs to make a cosy feel. The bed was only turned down on one night. The website didn't state that dinner was buffet style and we would not have booked this hotel if we had known this. A 5 star hotel should have waiter service. Two other restaurants are off the hotel site on the Protaras strip and have to be booked 24 hours in advance, if the weather is adverse in any way there is no inside area to dine.
