Break Sokos Hotel Bomba
Ranked #1 of 2 Hotels in Nurmes
Reviewed June 29, 2013

In the woods, next to the lake Pielinen is a carelian house Bomba together with hotel Bomba. Our family stayed in loghouse outside the main buidling. Nice, rustic and cool.
The spa is nice, lots of pools, and good for the kids. Only the walking distances between sections is a small minus, otherwise I'd recommend!

Definitely something different from other Sokos hotels we have stayed at. Excellent surroundings: great lakeside views with swimming beach, old log buildings and countryside style log house’s. There is also a small spa-area beside the hotel building. That’s best of the hotel.

Our room was situated in the “Karelian village”, at log house (there is also normal hotel building). Room size was ok. There was two single beds, small baby bed and working desk. Windows were small and inside the room it was dark (only few little lights), Floor, walls and roof were wooden. Bathroom was tiny and looks like 70's or 80's style and was extremely hot.
But problems: our check in card was mentioned that we had only one night but booked two. Baby bed had a normal adult size pillowcase, sheet and mattress pad as cover, luckily we had our baby linen with us. Our cabin was closest to the night restaurant and party building (Bomba – house) and there was 90's party at evening & night. We heard the music and noises of the party-people very clearly in our room, so no sleep before 4 am.

I have stayed at lot of Sokos Hotel chain's hotels but this is the weakest so far, but you have to notice that hotel is located at a small town and this hotel has started in Sokos hotel chain at last year (2011). Small things could make stay a lot better.

Travelled with my wife and 9 month old baby, our room was for two persons. We travelled with a group including about 40 people.

The room was nice and clean. Air conditioning did not work properly. I did not sleep well because they had plastic linen under the linen and that made the beds extremely unconfortable!!!!! Why?

The spa was small but ok, water felt quite cold.

The food in the Bomba house was the best part of our stay. Karjalainen pitopöytä, just delicious!!!

We stayed here en route to the bears at Martinselkonen and it made an excellent stopover.

Bomba is quite a complicated place. At its heart is the huge wooden Bomba House, a replica of a Karelian mansion house. This is worth a visit in itself and holds the restaurant, where breakfast and a 'Karelian buffet' is served until 7.30pm. This is a very atmospheric and jolly place to dine, even though the buffet, which was pretty good value, didn't seem to us very much different from other Finnish buffets. There was also a la carte and our vegetarian daughter had pasta from this.

The Bomba House is at the heart of a whole 'Karelian Village', set in the woods at the head of Lake Pielinen and in a lovely situation. It is clear that there is lots to do here if you stay for a while.

We stayed in two adjacent rooms in one of several a Karelain log cabins in the village. This was convenient, reasonably well-equipped and atmospheric. A short walk away were a Karelian gift shop and an open-air theatre where a compicated and unintelligible Finnish event was taking place when we visited.

Further away through the woods are more modern buildings housing conventional hotel bedrooms (which we didn't see) and a large swimming centre. This has (warm) outdoor and indoor pools with saunas, snack bar and beauticians on hand.
