“Newcastle weekend”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

We spent 3 nights next door at the Premier Inn and ate here on all 3 nights. There is a very good choice of food on the menu with plenty of offers to make eating out inexpensive. The food is excellent and even though it was very busy on the Saturday night we did not have to wait too long for our meals. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

“A most excellent meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

I agree with some of the most recent reviews. An ordinary pub that has suffered reputation wise under previous management.

The place is pretty ordinary in terms of decor and could benefit from further investment but at least now it appears and smells clean and cared for. In that regard being an ordinary pub as opposed to a clone in a chain of pubs is a positive thing.

Staff were friendly and attentive. Full marks for customer service. The place certainly has the feel of getting back to being a good local pub. No airs and graces just a good old fashioned welcoming atmosphere.

As for the food. It was without a doubt the best burger I can remember in many a year. You would be amazed how good a burger can be when care is taken and the ingredients are top notch. The salad that came with it was the best pub salad I have ever had. The chips were superb.

The menu is not extensive but I propose working my way through it. I have my eyes on the chicken caesar salad that my colleague had. Sadly I will blow any healthy eating by having a bowl of chips with it.

Give the place a go, they are trying hard and deserve sucess.

“Good pub grub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

On the face of it the Wheatsheaf is an ordinary pub, in need of some decoration and it lacks ambience. However if your looking for excellent food at a reasonable price and good service this is just the place.

“Wonderful restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

We arrived at the Wheatsheaf just after the time they stop Sunday meals. They were happy to serve us nonetheless. We had a roast beef Sunday lunch and the beef was cooked to perfection, pink in the middle and so tender! The vegetables were beautifully cooked, the Yorkshire pudding enormous, served with both roast and mashed potatoes - and the gravy - well it had the best flavour I've tasted in a long time in a restaurant.
The service was wonderful - as it has been every time we've been there. The choice of food is very good - and of a high standard.
We have been a few times already and will certainly be going there more often.
Wonderful food, helpful staff - what else do you need!

“Great hidden little gem!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2013

Brilliant little place. The staff all have great customer service skills, easy to talk to but not over bearing, drinks are very reasonably priced. The food is brilliant very reasonable and brilliantly cooked. All the ingredients they used are very high quality. All the sauces they use for the burgers and stuff are homemade and very tasty. I highly recommend the chicken burger. There very attentive and take notice of what people say and how they can make things better. It's the second time they had been there and the chef came out and asked us how spicy we liked there food due to a comment on the previous review. I thought it was very attentive to pick the one little niggle from a review and ask every customer that ordered any spicy food how they would like it cooked. All in all great staff, great price, great food, one of the best pubs for food I've been to locally.
