As per previous review. A classic pub inside with good grub. I thought the sign was temporary and the pub was being used for filming or something. I hope someone sees sense and reverts back to the original sign

“What have they done??”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

What's it called now? Riley's Fish Shack? What's that all about? I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this.
This classic vintage pub now sports a ludicrous out-of-character gaudy sign which looks so out of place clagged the way it is on the pub frontage. It looks cheap, tatty and uninviting. A travesty. What an absurd thing to do to North Shield's oldest inn. Whatever next? Flashing neon signs on the High Light? A pink pier??

Four stars still for the inside, none for the outside.

“Dog friendly Britain”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

From a dog owners point of view, this little old pub is very good. Dogs are welcome in the extended bar areas, but maybe it's not always a good idea to bring your pet. My caution would be that if it's busy, it gets noisy - live music nights etc. Simple rules made clear.

Excellent Pub. Oldest Pub in North Shields with an excellent choice of real ales and malt whiskies. The staff are tremendous really interacting with all customers whether new to the pub or regulars. There is an excellent menu with a lot of fish dishes sourced fresh from the nearby Fish Quay. There are a range of events at the pub including plays, bands and buskers

“Don't go there, I want to keep it a secret”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

A 16th century pub that hasn't tried to keep up with the times. Superb beer in amazing surroundings with several small rooms at least two of which have open fires. There is often musicians playing acoustically in one of the rooms.

A real treat, you'd hate it. Don't go there, leave it for me and my friends
