“An exceptional place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2013

The location, service, food and accommodation were all exceptional, and in addition we felt that the resort offered very good value for money (we were there in early August, which seems to be the low season for them). The breakfast was a real treat. We wanted in particular to counter the earlier review about the staff being homophobic. This was not our experience - as an obviously gay couple we were treated with every consideration, and did not feel the least bit uncomfortable.

The Good:‎
The resort is set in the most magnificent stunning nature reserve setting, the forest with the endless ‎trees, the river, the river meeting the sea, the beach, the amazing surf, the infinity swimming pool, ‎right out of a glossy holiday magazine, what an awesome place, the ultimate in natural beauty and the ‎resort is very well adapted to fit into this stunning piece of paradise on earth.‎

You have two dreamlike beaches practically all for yourself, the busier San Jose beach with about 5 ‎people and the even more deserted postcard Prainha beach with about 2 people there, tranquillity ‎that is rare to be found, we loved every moment of it.‎

The hotel is in a nature reserve, the entrance to the nature reserve is just as you enter Itacare on the ‎main road and then there is a 6 km’s ride on a dirt road to the hotel which is near the two beaches, ‎which both are of the hotel, one exclusively for the nature reserve with no public access at all and the ‎other with public access, but it’s not easy and therefore, pretty much deserted. We arrived at night ‎and the Hotel sent a car out to pick us up from the bus station, so we didn’t need to pay the 30reals for ‎a taxi and also on our way back to the bus station, they organized a car for us, for free. Actually, ‎whenever we needed the hotel staff were more than happy for us to hop on to one of their cars and ‎to be driven to the beaches in the resort or to the main entrance on the main road, so we didn’t need ‎to pay 30 reals for a ride into town. Combine this with the regular shuttle service to and from Itacare ‎and we never in our one week’s stay, needed to pay once for a taxi.‎

The food, top class, fantastic elaborate breakfast, a whole bunch of different types of fresh bread with ‎a cooking corner in the dining area, where fried eggs, omelettes and a bunch of other local yummy’s ‎are been prepared for you on the spot, all the food covered up with nets, which is something that is ‎missing in lots of other hotels in Bahia and is much needed here. Dinner is included, you get top ‎restaurant class food and not cheap buffet hotel style, every night they knocked out these splendid ‎dishes, we simply loved it, the one night we decided to eat in a classy restaurant in itacare proved to ‎be a big mistake since the hotel dinner was at least 100 times better!!‎

Awesome room, large, plenty of cupboard space, huge queen size comfy bed, big shower, good hot ‎water pressure and large balcony with a hammock, overlooking the stunning views, where the forest ‎meets the sea.‎

The staff are very attentive, very helpful at all times, all types of staff, front desk staff, kitchen and ‎dining area staff, swimming pool staff, cleaning maids, everyone, everywhere in the resort, always ‎very helpful and took care of every need.‎

Lots of hotels in Brazil offer free wifi in all areas of the hotel, but when you arrive, you find out that it’s ‎actually very slow and in limited areas only, however this is not the case in this resort, you actually get ‎real internet coverage and a solid connection without any problems whatsoever. There is no mobile ‎network coverage in the hotel area, at first I thought that was a disadvantage, but with a good internet ‎connection and fixed line phones, I really didn’t miss my mobile phone for one minute, it actually is a ‎great advantage and allows you to switch off from the outside world and switch on to the amazing ‎nature!!‎

The not so good:‎
Breakfast is wonderful, whilst the service were they cook for you eggs etc in the dining area is really a ‎nice touch and adds on a lot, however, the breakfast gets ruined, by sitting around and waiting for 25 ‎minutes for your fried eggs to finally arrive, so, the idea is good, the execution is not, since, there is ‎one person, totally under stress with sometimes cooking and delivering the plates to the tables at the ‎same time often making mistakes, preparing the wrong things, etc, who wouldn’t with four pans on ‎the fire and rushing around like mad to get things done. So, since this so popular, they need an ‎additional person to cook too, it’s simply not enough to cover the demand.‎

Wearing a band all the time, makes it feel cheap and not so classy, asking you for your name and room ‎number would be better, but I guess since it’s a kinda open nature reserve, they might not have ‎another choice, however, it would be nice, if they would find a way around this.‎
Being in a nature reserve has its perks, like snakes, which you will most probably not encounter, but ‎you will see many flies, mosquitoes of all types and shapes, lots of “wild life” in your room. We had a ‎lizard welcoming us when we initially entered, one night we were awoken to some creature stuck on ‎the roof scratching away, one day we came back and there was a swamp of flies in the room, hello, ‎you are in a nature reserve…So, expect some flies/spiders/lizards/mosquitos and many other lovely ‎little creatures. So, if you suffer from mosquitos or are a bit finicky with all the “wild life” near your ‎bed, take this into consideration. We just used lots of insect killer spray and it was fine. The hotel staff ‎were also more than happy to fumigate the room whenever we wanted and I assume they use some ‎repellent in the day to day cleaning in any event.‎

Paper thin walls, you can hear people talking, laughing etc, you can’t hear what they are saying, but it’s ‎not very sound proof.‎

Whilst the outdoor and public areas indoors are well manicured and looked after the Interior of rooms ‎are a little tired and worn and in need of updating, specially the bathroom areas.‎

To sum it up, somebody is running a great operation, the management and all the staff are well clued ‎in to what they are doing and this is by far the best option in Itacare!!‎

Stayed 3 nights at the resort end of July (low season). From the first moment I loved it. It's a mix between Eco lodge and beach resort. The rooms/ main building is about 300 m back from the beach in a wonderful tropical garden, with small river flowing through, true river pool and many places to hang out. On the beach there is a second pool, restaurant and many lounge chairs. The beach is in a wonderful cove with good surf.

This has been by far the best place/ beach combination ii stayed in Brazil (I've visted Morro de SP, Tapus de Fora, Mangue Seco, Praia do Forte, Fernando de Norohna etc) .

If you like the tipical Brazilian beach life, with lots of people, beach bars, food sellers and loud music, this resort is not for you. But if you like a beautiful cove, unspoiled beach in an Eco lodge setting than Itacare Eco lodge is for you.

Prainha beach can be reach by foot in 15 min or by the free hotel shuttle (as well as Itacare). There plenty of activities for children.

If you plan to go to the beach with your family, this is it. You will have a almost private beach, with a nice bar and a pool.
The service is great and friendly. The food is good.
The only problem is the quality of the bed. Not good at all. They need to invest more in the sheets, pillows and towels.
Do not take the room 49. I could not sleep because of the noise from the pump, every night. And you almost have to climb to arrive in your room, steep slope.

Room Tip: Do not take the 49 or 48.

We are a couple in our late twenties who spent four nights at Itacare Eco Resort in the beginning of March 2013. What a wonderful place!! The location and premises of the hotel are just perfect - so quiet, peaceful and with an own beach. There are also two swimming pools at the resort.

The personnel is attentive and the restaurant food was good. The food served at the beach place was not that much to brag about, a bit dry and boring, but not terrible. The standard of this place is fairly high.

We truly loved our stay at the Eco Resort and would love to come back another time. Can be recommended for both couples and families.

Room Tip: If you are a family, ask for a room on the ground floor (or even one of the rooms/apartments in the...

Me, my husband, my 5 year old son, my parents and my parents in law were at Itacare Eco Resort for Carnival holidays and everybody got the same feelings about it. The beach where the hotel is located is extremely beautiful, with native "mata atlantica", "coqueiros" and a lot of trails, but the hotel itself fails in a lot of points. The bedrooms are not beautiful, the television is so small that you have to sit in front of it so you can see anything, there is absolutely nothing to do after dinner, the children recreation is poor and the food is just ok. What saves the hotel is where is it located and the service of its employees. Very nice beach and attentive people. I don't know if I would go back, I would have to think a little. Next time, I will try Txai Resort which is very close to Eco Resort Itacaré.

Room Tip: We stayed at room 11 and it was very good. It is right beside the main restaurant and it was quite e...
