“Dated property, but excellent facilities and service”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

We stayed at the Evason for the second time (actually, the first time was at the Six Senses) early in Jan 2014. The property has aged gracefully and I enjoyed seeing some of the rennovations carried out by the management.

The resort is approx 30mins ahead of Hua Hin in a secluded area. There is not much to do around and hence the charm of going to the Evason is the resort itself. The resort is well contained with several eating and sporting options.

We stayed at a pool villa and enjoyed the space and service, although we probably used the plunge pool once. On our previous trip, the weather was more conducive to early morning and late evening dips and hence the plunge pool was used far more often. Although the room is showing its age, it was kept clean and functional. The shower pressure needs improvement.

The main pools seemed to have undergone new flooring. The chipped tiles were replaced by cement flooring. This is our favorite part of the resort and we spent most of the day lounging around or inside the pool. The poolside service is superb and we thoroughly enjoyed their home made lemonade along with the occasional Erdinger beer. The food menu is the same as the nearby bar area and we ate all our lunches here.

The breakfast spread is one of the best I have seen. Huge varities of fruits, breads with various spreads, approx 6 different sushi (+maki rolls) rolls & miso soup, hot thai breakfast, 5-6 juices, 5-6 yougarts, veggy fare, the usual eggs made to order + bacon/saussages, etc. A special shout out to their cappucino, which was probably the best I have had in Thailand over 20+ visits.

We visited the Thai restaurant Kien Shah several times and found it to be superb. This resonated with our memory from the previous trip. The Med restaurant served some really good sea food preparations as well as the usual fare. On the food front, our only disappointment was the icecream at the pool side shack. We tried the banofee and the cookie dough - didnt finish either.

The resort had tennis, archery and a few other sports and also arranged fishing excursions, but we did not partake.

My real disappointment was the spa. We recalled some really good therapies from our previous visit and also from visits to other Six Senses properties but the massages we had were not up to the mark. Firstly, They could not have a female therapist who could give a deep tissue massage. I was recommended a different massage, which I found to be more of a rub than a massage. The following day, I took a foot massage, which although better, didnt quite make the cut. My wife had a body scrub which she somewhat enjoyed.

Overall, a great propert, especially for the price.

Room Tip: Pool villa is the way to go.

Dear vbh812

Thank you for your review and pleased that once again you enjoyed so many aspects of the resort.
Also delighted to see that have you have detected some of the subtle improvements that we have been making and that you feel that the property has "aged gracefully"!
Thank you for letting me know about your experience in the Spa and I will have to follow up as to where Khun Chor our Physiotherapist was at the time as she normally receives excellent feedback. Understanding your preference for a female therapist, there is male alternative that I could have and can highly recommend, notably, Khun Pot - who seems to have a knack of "digging deep" and fixing most things.
Let me know when you are returning for your next visit and I will make sure that the Spa is ready and prepared to provide you with a much more satisfactory experience.

Kind regards

6 of us stopped in 3 pool villas for 4 nights. Very friendly & attentive staff, with excellent facilities including pools & restaurants. The lesson in Thai Kick Boxing was also well received.
Beautiful grounds, & villas well equipped and very comfortable, with private pool area.
Good location, close to Hua Hin and about 4 hours drive from Bangkok.

Went there in March 2012. Uses Oriental Escape for transfer from BKK to Hua Hin. It's about 3 hours drive. Heard good things about Evasons so decide to try it at Hua Hin. Booked the Pool villa for 4 nights. I would say the room is clean but need a bit of maintenance at the shower area. One thing about the villa, there's privacy so you need not worry about showering in the open area.

Breakfast is awesome, a good spread of buffet. The beach is just 1 road away which I find it convenient. I had my meals at both restaurants and they serve nice thai food. However the spa is so-so. For the price, I think you can get something better elsewhere.

Don't expect glitz, granite bathrooms and the latest technology.
Evason is a little expensive for what it actually is - which is an old fashioned Asian resort, set in a rural area.
However, it functions to perfection, the staff are mostly from the local villages and are naturally friendly and helpful, as is the case with most Thai hotels.
The real feature is that it is well away from the over- built up urbanity of Hua Hin. Whilst there is no beach and the town planning of this area is so bad that one day it will be dense with buildings, today that is not the case.
The grounds are beautiful and a stroll at early light lifts the senses- something which can't be achieved in Hua Hin or many Thai tourist areas.
Evason has a rhythm to each day and nature never feels far away.
Eating options are terrific.Relaxed, wide variety and good value.
I definitely recommend coming for a few days, to get into the rhythm of Evason.

Room Tip: Don't be Focussed on proximity to the sea. the grounds have a special charm.

Dear Roger M

Many thanks for your review and delighted to see that you picked up on the energy and spirit which definitely exists in and around the resort.
As you have detected there is a special charm in the location being slightly removed from the main town of Hua Hin and nestled between two fishing villages overlooking the Gulf of Thailand.
We hope that you will rewind and revisit the "rythms of Evason" - we'd love to see you again!

We stayed at the Evason for 6 nights mid December.
Firstly, I don't understand some of the reviews criticising the lack of beach and the road between the pool and sea. This is all clear from the photos and hotel details and if you are reviewing on Tripadvisor then you obviously research before you book. So simply you booked the wrong place.
The hotel is wonderful. The whole place is relaxed, quiet and tranquil with a lovely rustic spa like feel.
The outside world stays at the gates as you are whisked away on the golf buggy to reception.
We were greeted by smiles and a lovely welcome. We didn't get the name of the young lady that checked us in but she was first class. She also continued to check that we were comfortable throughout our stay.
We stayed in an Evason Studio room that was spotlessly clean. The feel is still rustic but very comfortable. The in room bath salts and soaps are spa like and amazing. The bed was very comfortable. Shower could be better but bathing made us relax more.
We used all of the restaurants and bar to eat including a Thai buffet on one evening. All food and service was superb.
The bar area is nice, open plan and again very relaxed (Football really not needed in this environment).
The pool area is lovely. It was never crowded and always sun beds available. The area seemed to have a natural split with the shallower end lending itself to families with children and the deeper end and sun beds more adult based, which worked well and suited us.
The road between pool and sea is quiet and no problem at all. Please don't even give it a 2nd thought. We were lucky enough to see wild dolphins swim up the coast line as we laid back and relaxed.
The whole place is very clean and tidy with the beautiful gardens and lilly ponds being attentively cared for.
ALL of the staff were fantastic and made us feel very welcome and spoilt.
It is not fair to pick individuals but the staff that we dealt with mostly deserve a mention:
(please excuse spellings) Oi the bar manageress was superb, Bom in the bar area always smiling and attentive, Ball in the bar area who spoke fantastic English, a lovely young man who even bought us a gift and made our stay even more special (management material), Pamela and Bob who provide the live music are both very talented and nice people. They even learned a song over night for us that we requested and performed it on our last night. Also Yos at the pool area (and his counterpart didn't get name sorry). Very attentive and couldn't do enough to help from preparing sun beds, providing cool towels, drinks and even the offer to clean sun glasses. Sorry if we missed anyone.
We had a wonderful stay and would recommend. We will return for sure.
