“Disappointed”
Reviewed December 14, 2013

If this hotel was a paradise in 2009, it changed to a place to avoid.
The sandy road before the hotel changed in concrete and there is a second in construction.
The bungalows at the left are directly beside another road.
That means that there is noise of cars and motos all the time.
The garden is beautifull, the haapy hour coctails are good but the quality of beds is far below zero. We rented a "deluxe bungalow" and the irons came out of the matresses.
The staff was friendly in their good days and rough in their bad days.

Room Tip: the rooms side Dolphin Beach Resort seem in more quit location.

Terra Selisa means „Balanced Earth“ and if you are not in it for the action or the luxury you may well get your own balance back holidaying at this place.

I have spent a few days here last year. I absolutely love the long and nearly empty beach with a view to some close-by islands. The perfect getaway. Everything is very laid back. The 5 or 6 hotels along the 5km long beach road hardly get noticed in the overall local picture.

So, when I came to Thailand again this year with my wife I decided to show her this relaxed place close to Hua Hin. We had booked a room for one night but on the next day we decided to extend our stay to a week.

Terra Selisa (ex Lealawadee) has quite a few things going for it: a great beach only 20 meters away, a small but carefully landscaped tropical garden around the completely new pool which makes it very cosy to sit on your porch in front of your bungalow, especially in the evenings and when the resort is not fully booked. Looking at the beautifully lighted pool and up to the starry skies decorated with palm tree leaves. Pure relaxation. Skinny dipping in the night in the sea and/or the pool 

It’s also a charm to sit on the shady restaurant terrace sipping some Thai beer (or me rather Thai whiskey) looking out at the sea and watch the traffic rush by on the beach road (approximately one car per hour as there is no through-traffic). You feel all your sorrows and woes slipping away.

Internet/Wifi worked perfectly day and night (not always the case even in the most luxurious Thai hotels).

The all female staff is more like a family and service is smiling and personal. They really make you feel welcome and at home.

The rooms have been repainted since last year and look neat. They are rather basic, though. My wife missed sufficient storage for her many things so I left the small wardrobe to her and lived out of my bag. A full length mirror would also have been appreciated as well as a somewhat larger fridge.

That’s why we had a look at the other hotels here at the beach after our arrival. But looking at the whole picture we found no alternative. My wife, usually being rather fuzzy, said she would put up with the room (that we used only for naps and sleeping anyway) because the combination of closeness to the hideaway beach, the lovely views, the pleasantness of the garden and its pool and the cosiness of our veranda could not be matched by any other resort here.

You can rent bikes and scooters directly at the hotel if you wish to explore the area and the National park. No need for us as we were travelling by car.

My wife enjoyed her early morning beach walks where she collected about a ton of all kinds of interesting shells. There is a nice bamboo shack Thai restaurant about 200m north of the hotel. Another 2km further is a Thai restaurant that specialises in crab. We stuffed ourselves with a bunch of them at 60 baht a piece. Heaven. They have a sign out on the road with a crab on it. Only Thai people – no tourists.

In short words: we had a wonderful, in fact, very romantic week and they let us

For some reason some of the reviews here are not the best - but people should understand what they are paying for. I was in Thailand on business with my wife and had a weekend free. We decided to get away from the city and look for some respite. Hua Hin was recommended but when we looked on the net we decided we could just as well stay at Blackpool or Myrtle Beach. After searching further afield we settled on sam roi yod and took the train. The hotel sent a minibus to collect us at Hua Hin station and we arrived, 60kms later, at Lealawadee early on Friday evening. The place itself is, indeed, basic - but we were paying about $40 a night. If you want a four star western hotel experience, go to Hua Hin, stay at the Hilton and pay $250 a night and you won't be disappointed. Here, the rooms were entirely adequate - clean bedding, working plumbing and air conditioning, locks on the doors and a thirty pace walk to the most unspoiled beach I can remember seeing in more than thirty years of international travel. Breakfast was good - service was up to normal Thai standards, which is to say superbly wonderful in that slightly haphazard way that fixes all issues with a ready smile and good humour. The beach was indescribably beautiful. The local beach restaurant (everything was "pok, pok, we have vewy good pok") struggled to charge more than $5 a head including a huge Sinha beer and the local hotel restaurants prepared wonderful fresh local food for prices that westerners dismiss as irrelevant. We enjoyed a superb evening next door at a restaurant that served sea bass caught from the bay that morning, with cocktails and all you could possibly want, for $36 for two. Insane. Lealawadee at the beach is an entirely wonderful place to stay and the Dutch owner was avaiable to help with any query, big or small. In all, we had a magical weekend break and, when I return to Thailand for more business in the coming months we are going to return for a week and enjoy it all the more.

There is not a lot to do at Sam Roy Yod, which makes it ideal for just relaxing. The Lealawadee is a simple hotel; semi-detached bungalows line a pretty swimming pool in smallish but mature gardens. The hotel reception, restaurant etc are in an open sided building which is separated from the beach by a small road. There are a number of beach-beds under the coconut palms on the beach................at least 5 Km of mostly soft white sand beach with hardly a soul on it. Breakfasts were beautifully cooked, presented and served although choice was very limited. We ate there in the evenings and found the food to be good, well-cooked and always beautifully presented. Service was invariably excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. The bungalows are simply furnished and a little tired, particularly in the bathrooms (although always kept spotlessly clean - and the towels smell great) but we spoke to the Dutch owner who said he was about to start renovating and updating them.
There are a number of small local eateries that cook simple food at great prices (fantastic if you like full-on Thai), and one or two hotels with more farang oriented restaurants and bars but apart from that - nothing...............and the whole place seems to shut at around 9pm, so plan on getting plenty of sleep.
We had a wonderful time and I would certainly return but probably only for a long weekend or so.
