“Dinners to remember”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

My wife and I stayed in the sister Desert Camp, 4km away, but we came here for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was good and plentiful (and early), and dinner was superb.
We ate by candlelight on the terrace under the stars, wondering what creatures might be watching us from the nearby water hole!
At the grill, there were nine varieties of game to choose from - such as Kudu, Elland, Gembok, Ostrich, Warthog - as well as beef steak, chops, sausage and fish - and also fresh noodle and stir-fry dishes. There was a good choice of starters, salads and desserts, and we enjoyed the ubiquitous Windhoek lager and pinotage.
Staff were attentive, polite and eager to please. In early October, the lodge was full and the restaurant busy, so it would probably be advisable to book a table.
Look out for the changing patterns in the gravel at the entrance!

Room Tip: We stayed down the road at the Desert Camp, where all the tents were similar and all had magnificent...

Dear Ornsay,
Thank you for this wonderful review on our dinner and breakfast. We are pleased you enjoyed the unique culinary experience by candlelight. Thanks for noticing the change in the gravel-patterns at the entrance – not many people do!
Looking forward to welcome you back at Sossusvlei Lodge!

Sossusvlei lodge is the "biggest" lodge near Sesriem/sossusvlei (if i am correct they have 51 rooms). That doesn't mean you are only a number. We felt very valued during our time (3 days).
The rooms viewing the "savanne" are the best rooms, so try to get one on that side as the other rooms won't have this great view.
Internet is only available at the reception area, and you need to ask for login details (but it is free and quick). There is always tea/coffee and cold water (and cookies) available at the reception.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and all tried their very best to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
The rooms are spacious and clean. Only pretty dark and we had some noises from gecko's climbing the canvas structure during they night, which woke us up. Please note, these were outside and not inside. We haven't found any "creepy crawlers" in our room.
Bathroom was basic (for European standard), but sufficient and clean.
Dinner is great. If it is busy, there will be a buffet style dinner. This is of great quality and lots of choices available. The main courses (braai or stir fry) is prepared in front of you. And you can make you own selection what meat (braai/stir fry) and vegetables or sauces (stir fry) you want.
If it is really quiet they said there will be a la carte option available.
Breakfast is ok. Main issue is if you want to enter Sossusvlei around sun rise, then the breakfast area is very busy. Especially if there are coaches staying here.
The lodge is ideally situated just outside Sossusvlei.
We have done the sundowner trip while we stayed at the lodge. Please note that the description of the sundowner doesn't cover all. We very pleasantly surprised to see rock engravings and a place where our ancestors cooked and slept. Also our guide provided some information regarding the bushes and trees. One of the best sundowners we had.
There is a waterhole near the lodge.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view. Especially rooms at both ends have great views.

We arrived from Fish River Lodge after a 13 hour drive at 9:00 at night. We got the last room available. The room was an airconditioned tent. Very comfortable. Rooms where clean. The desk attendant ensured that we would make dinner and ensure that the kitchen stayed open long enough for us to enjoy a really tasty dinner. Staff where exceptionally efficient as well as helpful. The lunch menu was really good too. Pool was very inviting. Internet is fast (it was the only place that we where able to effectively access the internet on our trip around the southern Namibia.

My wife and I spent a night in August 2012 at the Sossusvlei Lodge and were most impressed. After several days in the desert this was a true haven. The adobe coloured/ tented villas were spacious and well maintained and fitted out in true African style. Verandahs opened out onto the dramatic countryside with views to the horizon. There is a small waterhole close by where the Springboks etc come in to drink at night and it provides easy viewing. The outside dining area provides atmospheric dining complete with brai of varied game meats and many other variations. Drinks were reasonablypriced
We could not fault the place. Staff were pleasant and professional and everything seemed to work well.

Room Tip: Try for a room overlooking the endless plain by the dry river bed

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights at the lodge in chalet 145, almost the farthest from the main reception area. After a long drive, we found it such a peaceful place and decided to just rest over for 24 hours and stayed within the camp. The "tented" chalets are very comfortable and open out onto a view of the scrub, where various animals could be seen. The evening meal was a delight! Set in an open area under the stars and the staff so willing and helpful. The buffet meal is included in the room rate and provides an enormous selection. One can select from a multitude of game meats, braaied in front of you. Also available are the more traditional steaks, lamb, etc. A selection of stir fry or vegetables is also on offer. Their wine list is comprehensive and affordable. We loved it. Free internet access is also available for those who need it.

We stayed in chalets no's 114 & 115 at Sossusvlei Lodge and what a treat it was. the views from these to chalets go on for ever. Breakfast & dinner were included & what feasts they were. We enjoyed our stay very much. The one night we were there the tent section (where the bedroom is was a bit noisy as a very strong wind came up and flapped the tent around a bit but all in all a very pleasant stay.

we recently spent 2 nights at Sossusvlei Lodge. What a treat! Accommodation is in private chalets, with private bathroom and little patio - to sit and stare at nothing/or the lovely view! rooms have tea/coffee and kettles. no fridge. Great meals served outside, and by candlelight at night. Buffet style, with lots of game on the menu. Something for everyone. Lodge is 2mins from the entrance gates of the national park, which incorporates Sesriem Canyon and Sossusvlei (red dunes). Quad biking experience at the lodge was fantastic! Excellent service, and lovely friendly staff.
