“Feels Like Coming Home”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

We have just got back from Mykonos after out 10th visit since 1993 and our 3rd visit to the Anemos. Of all the places we have stayed over the years this is by far the best and friendliest. Poppy, Yianni, Irene & Maria are such a lovely family and nothing is too much trouble. We had the same room again 31 by the pool, my husband likes this room so much that he wants to buy it from Poppy as he dislikes the thought of sharing it with anyone else!! We had an impromptu sing song one night & kept Poppy up a bit late but a few of the other guests joined in so I think all enjoyed it. Great to see the same faces return year after year especially our friend Franco - thanks for the Bellinis! All the reviews of Anemos are spot on you will want to keep coming back for ever. Here's to our next visit soon as we can.

We returned from Mykonos on 1st June 2013 after a wonderful stay at the Anemos Apartments. When I read the reviews before booking and just before going, I thought they were just too good to be true. However I was wrong, every review was spot on. In a few words, clean and friendly. You get so well looked after by everyone. Would I stay again?.... most certainly. I am a seasoned traveller around Greece and its islands and this is the best by far. Close to beaches and local transport with local shops and restaurants a few yards away. Yes as most Greek apartments the accommodation is basic but who cares I am not cooking. Poppy and Irene need a separate mention, they just can't do enough to make your stay a pleasure.

This was our second holiday in ornos, and we are very pleased we choose anemos.
the cleanliness was excellent, clean towels and sheets every day.
poppy and her daughter are very friendly and cannot do enough for you, excellent value food available at the pool bar and reasonable priced drinks too
Always enough sunbeds but you need to be up early to reserve the ones that get the sun all day.
Supermarket right next door, and 5 mins to excellant beach, bus stop 5 mins walk also, so ideal location.
A good mix of ages of guests, and all very friendly and sociable.Highly recommended

Room Tip: At the front road facing to catch evening sun, courtyard in the middle by office for morning sun and...

returned from staying for a week at the Anemos studios in Ornos Mykonos on May 28th 2013 having been away with my grown up daughter and husband-we had long wanted to stay in Mykonos but until last year had not found anything within in our budget-until quite by chance my daughter found this holiday with Easyjet-as 3 of us travelled it was always going to be tricky with accomodation, but when we rang to enquire about this holiday we were able to book 2 rooms at very little extra cost(i think it added an extra 20.00 per person-and still within our budget) we booked transfers and paid extra for 20kgs of luggage however this still came in at around 300.00 per person which we felt was a good price. this was my 2nd holiday booked with easyjet and as with the first, it was a very positive experience-there is no rep service but to be honest we didn't miss that. flights were good and the transfer to Ornos from the airport was literally ten mins-you could just get a taxi if you liked -though i am not sure of the cost ,or there was a bus to Ornos as well.
pretty much all of Mykonos' architecture is in the 'sugar-cube' style-i.e.. 2 storey square buildings all pained white with paint work in varying colours-though mostly blue....there is very little variance from this style on the island and it is enchanting and so nice not to see huge great multi storey hotels every where.

the Anemos is lovely... although we were in apartments called the cyclades it is all the same complex...there is a lovely pool -not huge-with very comfy sunbeds (and some more basic ones for late comers!) a pool bar that does yummy food pretty much all day from 8 am til the evening when they often serve home cooked meals to guests and it also serves all manner of drinks from tea and frappe to cocktails-we ate breakfast here every day and at around 24-35 euros for 3 doesn't sound cheap-but this was for fresh orange juice,tea/coffees, toast/preserves and whatever your chosen breakfast- which could have been eggs bacon and tomatoes or ...our favourite the Anemos special omelette..... and the size of these dishes -portions are huge-meant we rarely needed lunch..quite often an icecream was all we required till dinner...... so a bargain in its own way.

poppy irene and all of the rest of the staff are wonderful, nothing is too much bother for them and they always smile and chat and laugh-the ladies who service the rooms(every day-never had that before) are also lovely -waitnig til you are out to work their magic ...fresh towels every day .....washed and dried on the line ...so yes ,as some have said they are not tumble dryer soft, but they are not as bad as some reviews have said...plenty of loo roll ,a clean tea towel every day too, little things that make a difference.

rooms are a fair size- my daughters had a slightly larger shower room and being downstairs on the ground floor her balcony was a better size than ours-as it was quite breezy during our stay we often went down to her balcony of an evening as it was more sheltered than ours. on our first night she did have an influx of beetles in her room but a spritz of raid sorted them out and they did not return after that.
the cooking facilities are limited-no problem to me as i don't cook on holiday, but if you are proper self catering this may not suit you as all there is is an electric 2 plate hot plate and a kettle in the rooms- &theres a fridge, of course-but this may not be enough for some people.

the shower was a challenge -if i am honest the only bit of the holiday experience i struggled with-the water temperature was hard to manage -it would freeze you or boil you with complete impartiality and on a whim,.....added to this the shower curtain went across rather than around the shower tray(thereby soaking the loo and anything hanging on the hooks above it!),and seemed to wish to become intimately acquainted with the showeree by trying to wrap its self lovingly around you at any given opportunity-still it made showering an interesting past time and by the end of the week i felt i had got to grips with the idiosyncrasies of it all.

i have never stayed in greece any where that had so many plug sockets .....it was fab we had 5 in our room very handy for phone kindle charging as well has hair drying etc.

beds were comfy and we had loads of storage-air con was free another 1st and safe boxes only 1 euro a day-bargain!!
turn left outside the anemos and 5 mins sees you on the (very) touristy beach-small but jammed with parasols and sunbeds no where really for a towel! not a problem for us but if you want a beach holiday with towels and doing your own thing then this might not suit. the bus stop is by the beach- buses run frequently all day till quite late at night and it is about 1 euro to go to Hora the capital-approx 10 mins away-also it goes to other beaches and the airport too.
when we were there about5/6 restaurants were open... port ornos was very nice but our favourites were konstantis -on the beach- and ithaki almost next door to port ornos...food was about 5 euro a starter-from about 8 euros up for mains and about 5 again for desserts-but again portions are huuuuggge!!!we were stuffed after a starter and main ...never mind pud-most places offer you complimentary fruit/yogurt&fruit and or local mastichi liquers as well which is a nice touch -we paid on average any where between 60-100 euros for 3 people, inlc breads starter/mains with a litre of house wine-sometimes an extra half litre as well!- bottle of fizzy water &sometimes with dessert too-i can recommend ekmek (a dessert) served differently in both ithaki and konstantis but very yum.-the food was all excellent in quality, fresh made& local produce & service was good in all restaurants we were not disappointed once during our trip.

there is a 2nd beach at Ornos but this is v.windy and seems to be the preserve of water sports enthusiasts- wind surfers kayakers jet skis and more besides -it is not really a place for sunbathing etc
we hired a car for 3 days from Munchen about 3 /4doors down from anemos studios-25 euros a day(+10 euro a day for full ins cover-so 105 in total) got us a tatty old picanto-which suited us very well-just confirm all its lumps and bumps with the hirer when you collect your car, go around it with them so you both know whats what.- 3 days was plenty of time.-you can hire quads and mopeds too.

taxis are used a lot i do not know prices as we diidn't use them -but poppy or irene were happy to book them for guests
Mykonos is small -about 90 sq k-there are lot of beaches but not much else Ano Mera is the only(!) inland settlement and is hardly any distance from Ornos -there is a monastery there-very pretty -ladies must cove their sholders before entering though- and a square with a few tavernas and a couple of shops.

there are many beaches and lighthouse point you can visit with fab views but a lot of theses places need a 4x4 or a quad as the roads are at best dodgy and at worst non existent-little more than dirt tracks-so be warned.

can totally recommend Panormos beach-it is beautiful with a lovely taverna on the sand..... gorgeous ...do go there if you can.

Hora-the capital-is where all the action is. there is a free car park north of the port which is very useful -all well signe posted
cruise ships drop shed loads of passengers(mainly amercians) here almost daily so its quite busy with lots of expensive shops bars restaurants etc-but these are alongside regular shops and eateries- so you just have to wander around the quaint little higgledy piggledy streets of Hora-until you find what suits you. we can recommend Sakis gyros great value-if you can find it in the maze of alleys
go and see the Hora mascot- Petros the pelican(1 of 4 pelicans they have -some friendlier than others!) on the harbour front near the little church- hes there most afternoons for photos,............also there is a lovely icecream parlour-not the artisan one-theres another a few doors up which sells the fabbest ice creams.

also must-sees are the iconic windmills, little venice and the white church.

from Hora there are boats to Delos -about 30 mins and well worth a trip-try to go on the early ferry -about 9 a.am and come home on the late ferry -about 3 p.m.-as you need as much time as possible to visit this uninhabited site of Apollos' birth that is packed with archeaological ruins going back almost 3000 years-an incredible place-and a real must see, especially the naxian lions-breath taking.
do take plenty water and a snack though as the food kiosk is not always open-there are loos in the museum and i believe the ferries offer snacks and drinks.

make sure you get on the last ferry as there is nothing on the island-even the museum curators leave when the last ferry does-so you do not want to be stranded there overnight

also ferries go to Tinos-which we didn't do this time -as well as trips to beaches coves etc around Mykonos -i believe there may be other boat trips available but cannot be sure-there is plenty of info around the harbour area though.

there are a few mozzies around-though the only one to get bitten-quite badly- was my husband but that was on our last night-but its probaly worth taking some repellant.

lastly.... there is a very good supermarket to the right of the anemos -water was 1.40 euro for 6x 2ltr bottles and he sells pretty much everything you could need-but does not take cards-cash only !!
further up is another supermarket and a great bakery, greengrocers and pharmacy plus a coffee place and Anixi- a restaurant we didn't get to try sadly.

Its small but its gorgeous- for some one like me who likes to sightsee there is not as much here as other islands-but what you do see is worth while- a week in that situation would be ample-but for 1 or 2 weeks of sunbed by the pool with the occasional foray into Hora/or other beaches its perfect.

i would come back here to the Anemos given the chance-it is a gem of a place with lovely people

personally i do not think it would suit a family with young children or young people who want a more party-ish holiday-if you want laid back and relaxing then this is the place to come to.

if you go -enjoy!!
