I stayed in Asteri Apartments in the last week of July 2012 with my wife. I made reservation for 4 nights (5 days) for their luxurious apartments, which include bathroom with bathtub (not plain shower), kitchen (fully equipped), double bedroom, and the other extras like free Wi-Fi, air condition, TV, hair dryer, fridge, pool. The price was set to 70€/night, a bit expensive for my budget, but a fairly good price for Mykonos island!
Although I had arranged for the apartment 1 month before my visit, and I paid in advance for the 2 of the 4 nights, a very bad surprise awaited me there: The woman responsible for the apartments (Mrs Mina), an otherwise polite lady, informed me that the couple occupying my apartment extended their stay for 1 more day, and there was no other apartment available, only 1 of their hotel rooms, which was not of the high standards of the apartment, but I saw no problem to take it just for 1 night, so I agreed there was no problem to stay there for 1 night, and to move to the apartment the next day.
So it happened. The next day we moved to our apartment. The difference in quality of service was HUGE comparing to their hotel room (very nice bathroom, better air condition, nicely equipped kitchen), so we were both very pleased with it.
When the day of check-out arrived, I was again very badly surprised: Mrs Mina gave me a total bill of 4 * 70€ = 280€, this means she charged me 70€ also for this 1 night in their hotel room, which I already mentioned it's NOT comparable in ANY way to the apartment room in quality of service! and not only that, before I made my reservation there, I checked touristorama.com which clearly had a price of 50€ for the hotel room, and a price of 70€ for the apartment! when I explained this to Mrs Mina, at first she reacted something like "there was never this price on the site"... and when I added that the quality of service was NOT comparable between a fully equiped apartment and a simple hotel room, only then she agreed to accept 20€ less for the night in hotel room... and ONLY because "I accepted to help her in her time of need when I accepted to stay in the hotel room"...
In my opinion, these little (?) things could ruin an otherwise very pleasant stay in Mykonos island. It's a shame we arrived to discuss about these 20€ difference, especially when it's NOT customers fault, but the management's!
Also, 1 final thing, there were 2 lights over the bed. 1 of them was not functional at all (not just the lamp missing...) and it was ready to fall off (on someone's head???)
For all the above, I have really mixed feelings about the staying in Asteri. For sure I recommend the island to all of you who have not discovered it yet, but I can not recommend Asteri for your staying. I believe there are other nice places in Ornos area which would probably facilitate you better!
