Booked a last hurrah weekend at the end of August & were extremely lucky to get in! Andrew & Clare are fabulous friendly hosts who are happy to chat when you want & yet instinctively know when a guest is after a little quiet time.

The rooms are immaculately clean, beautiful white linen on the beds with personal accent touches and more than enough complimentary tea & coffee and fresh milk supplied in the room daily. I have never been to a guest house that supplies soft bathrobes like this and as many toiletries as are available in the bathroom. In fact, had I realised, I could have left half the contents of our weekend bags at home!

Clare's cooked breakfasts deserve a review of their own - top quality bacon and sausages, large field mushrooms, eggs any way you like them, fresh tomatoes, toast. If you want fried bread, Clare will do it for you. I've genuinely never had a breakfast better in any hotel or guest house. There is a full range of fresh fruit, cereals and yoghurt along with freshly brewed coffee, fruit juices and pots of tea. See what I mean? Breakfast here needs it's own page!

Andrew & Clare are knowledgeable about the local area & happy to book tables for you or supply directions and advice on where to go and what to do. They make a fabulous team and we're looking forward to going back next year. Ammonite Lodge is central to so many places in the Devon & Dorset area, it's a superb base for touring and there's plenty to do within just a few miles.

I fully recommend Ammonite Lodge. We were so relaxed and felt like we had just met new friends in Andrew & Clare.

We spent a couple of days traveling around this beautiful part of England and stumbled across the Ammonite Lodge. Unfortunately they were full so we only managed one night and having experienced nearby alternatives on the other nights we know why, simply put, the Ammonite Lodge is the best by far.......
-absolutely spotless
-fantastic breakfast
-proprietors Andrew and Claire are super passionate about what they do and attend to every detail
-best beds and amenities
-fresh milk with in the room tea and coffee facility!!!!!
Altogether a top address in the world of B&Bs......very handy indeed, well done and I am not sure how it could be better!

Stayed at the Ammonite Lodge last week with my wife and young daughter (aged 5). I cannot fault our stay. The owners were so friendly and helpful – they really made us feel part of the family. Our room was spotless and really charming. Breakfast was really tasty. I really can't find any negatives (and I have stayed in many expensive hotels in my time). I would highly recommend this guest house – a great find. We look forward to staying here again.

Highly recommend this one, Clare and Andrew couldn't have been more welcoming and it was a great to be hosted by such lovely people. The breakfast was fantastic and it was great to see the effort that had been put into the room. Our own dressing grown and 5 star hotel touches etc. I'm quite sure this B&B would be hard to better.

Room Tip: Book as soon as you know you want to go, I'm sure this B&B will be popular.

I recently stayed down here on business for 3 nights, and i have stayed in many hotels and guest houses, but to be honest, nothing beats this one....boy oh boy do this couple know what they are doing and really focus on the guest experience! As it was late July and the guest house was full of people on holiday, I was an oddity, but Clare and Andrew really made me feel part of the family.....I stayed in a lovely room overlooking the wonderful garden....and the bathroom had recently been upgraded, and the room had new fluffy towels and lovely bathrobes to relax in...BUT the best bit? Fresh milk in the room on arrival, nice fresh biscuits (not packaged) and a personalized welcome note with a small pack of retro sweets!!!!!! Blimey.....what a nice touch!!! Andrew then told me in great detail where to go and eat in the evening, and the local Indian was top notch, the Spice Villa........breakfast was a pleasant surprise,,,,a full buffet laid on with fresh juices, many types of yoghurt, 3 cereals, and fresh fruit including raspberries and a very snazzy coffee machine for espressos!!!!! Never seen that before at a B and B! And then came the full brekkie......wow! Great sausages, from Axminster I am told....a very generous and well presented breakfast, cooked by Clare, and served by Andrew. In fact everyone in the dining room, and it was busy, all commented as to how good a breakfast it was! All in all? You couldn't have wished for better hosts, a better place, and I notice they are 4 star Visit England? They should be 5 star Visit England!!!!! Well done......I will be back for sure.

Room Tip: Garden view rooms are slightly smaller, but with lovely new linen, bathrobes and new fluffy towels...

I spent a night at the Ammonite Lodge whilst working in the area on business. It’s in a great location with plenty of restaurants within walking distance.
The owners Andrew and Claire were most welcoming and really made me feel at home with refreshments on the delightful patio area at the back. The room was very clean and tidy with many nice touches especially the mini sweet selection, free Wi-Fi and flask of fresh milk for your tea and coffee.
Onto breakfast which finished off my stay with an array of fruits, cereals and jams followed up by one of Claire’s freshly cooked breakfasts. All in all a well run B&B with great hosts which I will be returning to when on business or in the area with the family.

We spent two nights as a family group at Ammonite Lodge to attend a family Wedding at The River Cottage. Great location, easy access to lots of attractions nearby. Taxi ride to The River Cottage, 15mins, so easily placed for this location. Warm welcome with a glass of wine or coffee/tea, gratefully received after a 4 hour journey from Kent. Rooms are comfortable and clean and well appointed. Tasty, full english Breakfast and as much juice and coffee to satisfy, plenty of alternatives, such as cereal or yoghurts etc. What makes this B&B a wonderful place are the owners. Nothing is too much trouble and the atmosphere that this creates is one of comfort and relaxation. Always ready for a chat, Andrew and Claire are surely great characters and dedicated to attention to detail. Also has a guest lounge, so no need to sit in your room, or if you're with a party, a good place to meet. Lovely patio surrounded by mature plants and trees, somewhere to relax and unwind. Andrew and Claire are very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and visitor attractions and are happy to advise on good places to eat or attractions to visit. Should you be considering the Ammonite Lodge for your stay, you will receive the warmest of welcomes and a comfy room, all at a reasonable rate. We wish Andrew and Claire all the best in their new venture, we will surely be back in the future. Keith & Michelle Sole, stayed 31 July 2013.
