Recently stayed at this hotel and thought it was completely charming! The staff were very polite and hard working and the owners (very nice people) are more than happy to deal with the guests in person, a nice touch I think. Not sure what the complaints re decor are all about, this is a charismatic hotel/bed and breakfast, not a Ramada! Thought the furniture was suited to the setting and the bathroom was wonderful! If you want uniformity then head to the city chain hotels, if you want quality combined with the 'personal touch' stay at the Lordleaze in Chard. The food is out of this world, again something you don’t find from sterile 'ping' hotel kitchens! I slept wonderfully well and breakfast was equal to the evening meal. You really can tell when you sausage and bacon comes from locally produced farm shops! Central to Dorset, Somerset and Devon location to get around was great for me. Recommend to a friend? Certainly. Recommend to a stranger looking on Trip Advisor? Certainly.

This was the only room we could find at short notice in the area. The hotel has an unfortunate location, as you have to drive through a housing estate to get to it. However, it is in pleasant, well kept grounds. It is family run and the staff members are absolutely lovely, very friendly and helpful.

The rooms, however, welcome you to 1984 and the blankets on the beds take you back even further - if you remember blankets, or just confuse you if you don't. It all smells pretty musty too - a bit like a charity shop.

Breakfast was good, tasty and served by more lovely staff.
We didn't feel it was bad enough to complain about, especially as the staff were so nice. I'd go back if they refurbished it or dropped the prices as, in its current state, I think it is a bit overpriced.

I have visited this hotel many times in the last few years to use the restaurant for Sunday lunches and family occasions and I have always experienced the same high standard of service, quality and presentation of food, and value for money. The owners and staff are always extremely polite and attentive and the surroundings are very pleasant.
I have never stayed overnight so cannot comment on the accommodation but imagine it is satisfactory for this type of small country house hotel.

I didn't like the decor, I didn't like the crockery. There was definitely a problem with damp/sewage in our children's room (they were moved promptly when we pointed it out).
However, everything worked well, the staff are very friendly, welcoming and efficient.
All five of us thought the food was excellent. Much better than we expected. Good quality/value house wines too.

Just three minutes away from Chard, the drive through a new housing estate meant our hearts were in our boots by the time we drove into the hotel carpark. However, we realised we had been deceived the moment we walked into the hotel gardens. This is an oasis of calm and solitude. The hotel is family run with high quality service from all staff with the owners and their son and daughter in law (in the kitchen) ever present. The rooms have been refurbished and water was piping hot and the rooms comfortable if not modern 5 star hotel chain standard. The food was a very high standard with a well-stocked bar and wine cellar to suit all pockets. We look forward to returning to this perfect venue for exploring an interesting part of the south of England.

We stayed at the Lordleaze on New Year's eve and had a really wonderful time. They put on a wonderful meal, excellent service and great dancing music. The hosts made us all feel very welcome and by the end of the evening all there seemed best of friends. An extra special touch was the fine pianist who played during the meal. Very nicely done for a small country hotel.

Firstly the staff at this hotel were all very friendly and seem to work hard

The hotel isn’t very modern and although in good order there is a mish mash of furniture and decor, money isn’t spent unless necessary and then only what needs replacing.

I stayed with 2 colleagues and we all agreed that the hotel was very cold. Fair enough it was cold outside but the heating was still on a timer coming on at 3pm when I enquired. My room had signs of damp on the walls which was obviously down to the lack of heating. I am rarely cold but on this afternoon in the hotel I almost lost the feeling in my feet. Fair play to the staff a small electric radiator was given to us all but shouldn’t have been necessary if only they turned up the water temp and left the heating on a bit longer.

We dined 2 night in the hotel the first in the restaurant again cold (conservatory so the 2nd night we opted for the bar. The food quality was reasonable but portions were small and they certainly weren’t worth the £15 or so that main meals cost especially since veg was extra.

The plus points of the rooms were that all were spacious and the showers were powerful. In fact too powerful they nearly took the skin off and half filled the bath with the water flow.

In summary would stop again in summertime but only as last resort in Chard and would dine elsewhere.

We always ensure that our guests are as comfortable as possible, We are very often told that our portion sizes are too large (and 'delicious'). The building is usually very well heated and we endeavour to improve all aspects of a guests stay if we notice, or are made aware of, a problem.
