Well worth a visit and so informative. Many many exhibits in this Somerset town dating back to the Doomsday Book. So much to learn and see under one roof.

“Very interesting”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

We mostly visited this museum to get information about the birth in 1848 of powered flight, just 55 years before the Wright Brothers! There are some models and other displays about John Stringfellow, who also happens to be buried in Chard. There is a small charge on entry to the museum but thereafter the ticket is valid for one year. The volunteers who run the place are very friendly and helpful but photography, even without using flash, is forbidden. There are also a lot of other interesting exhibits unrelated to aviation, including on artificial limbs which were pioneered and manufactured in the town. The exhibition space is surprisingly extensive given that the building appears from the front to have fairly modest dimensions. The building itself is also very interesting.

“Small but some valuable Chard history.”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

We were in Chard to do some family tree research. The museum staff noticed our camera and 2 remarked that no pictures could be taken. Not sure why and would have enjoyed adding some more photographic history to or research.
