“A village restaurant with great food , nice ambience, a good host and great staff”
Reviewed September 27, 2010

If you want good food in a relaxed atmosphere then Keith and his team provide the ideal location. Small it is but cosy , quaint and comfortable also come to mind. I have eaten here on and of for a number of years and the consistency of the food, the inexpensive but good wine list and the general atmosphere make it a good venue for a meal for two or a family of 8. The staff work hard and do it all with a good grace and interest that is refreshing. Mine host keith presides over winships with a great mix of service and conversation that really defines the term mine host. Booking is almost always neccessary ( even when you are a regular) !! The specials and particulary the fish specials are very good but to be quite frank there have been no bad meals to date. Would I reccomend it yes definately. and a must try are the "Chunky Chips"

“Fine dining at sensible prices.”
Reviewed September 19, 2010

Located off the A69 in the northumbrian village of Ovington "Winships" has up-graded fron village "pub" to "bar with dining rooms". It has only 37 covers so advance booking is essential. "Mine Host Keith & Chef Kevin" make ones visit a real dining experience. The standard menu is supplemented with daily/seasonal variations mainly freshly landed fish or locally reared fowl. The presentation, quality and flavour of the produce bring back memories of long ago. A sensible wine list compliements the evening. Winships is the place for that special celebration or just catching up with friends.
