After my partner and I decided that we needed a relaxing week away somewhere warm (the prolonged winter in London getting us down) we finally decided on Etna Hotel.

The taxi ride from the airport (kindly arranged by the hotel before departure) might cause you to be slightly concerned by some of Sicily's 'rustic' character - do not let this fool you. Etna Hotel is set back from the road and is an idyllic set of buildings in lovely lush grounds. When we arrived, we were checked in and shown our room which was overlooking the courtyard and was nicely sized. Although we did not have a private balcony, there was a bench outside our room which overlooked the courtyard and was perfect to sit at with a glass of wine in the evening before bed.

The hotel is even more beautiful in the daylight and offers views of Mount Etna from the pool. The pool has ample space for sunbathing and also offers a solarium when you need some shade.

There is a restaurant next door to the hotel which offers very good food and we were looked after every time we ate here. There is also a nice seafood restaurant in Riposte which is a 10 minute cycle (the hotel kindly loaned us use of the bicycles) which we visited a couple of times for lunch.

There is not much to do in the local area so if you fancy more than staying and lying around the pool, you may want to hire a car, although you can walk (if you are brave with fast cars and no pavements) to the station in Giarre/Riposte where you can get a train to Taormina in 20 minutes.

Overall, Etna Hotel is a lovely place to stay for a nice relaxing break in the sunshine. The hotel staff are beyond lovely and are extremely helpful. We have already recommended the hotel to friends who have booked to stay in August and we will definitely stop again.

The hotel is difficult to find as its hidden slightly but it's worth the search. It's a very pretty set of buildings and has a nice size garden with pool and a big car park and a clear view of Mt Etna. The room was comfortable but our view was of the car sales opposite. Nevertheless the staff were very friendly and gave us a free bottle of sparkling wine upon arrival for being guests. Overall I highly recommend.

Nice little hotel, but the breakfast lady (only one at a time) struggles to keep up as soon as there are five guests at the same time. The hotel is clean, but it is at one end of Giarra, in a dirty big city without anything worth to go there. If you don't mind that you bother the breakfast service and feel like an unwanted burden, you might like it.

We booked the first three nights of our honeymoon here and it did not disappoint! We arrived late at night from Catania and even though the restaurant was closing, they stayed open for us so we could have something to eat. It was a bonus night because the food was good as was the wine! The hotel itself was everything we wanted from Sicily. There was a real character to it and truth be told, it was nice not being in the midst of it in Taormina (where the prices are high and tourists come in droves!). Overlooking mount Edna, the hotel is set in a beautiful courtyard surrounded by lush greenery and beautiful flowers. There is also an amazing view of Etna from the pool area. It is very romantic and exactly they type of place where you want to stay when heading to Italy or Sicily. We had a car to get around which is necessary as Giarre itself isn't the most beautiful of places. One day however we decided to take a taxi to Taormina for the day and our driver, Bnny Grasso, was the most delightful tour guide! He only a charged us the fare to get to Taormina but then drove us to nearby villages that tourists tend not to go to so we were able to get a real sense of Sicily. Lovely, friendly guy who we would thouroughly recommend asking for. He also knows the best places if you're looking for authentic Sicilian food. There is also a lovely vineyard, Tenuta San Michele, which the hotel recommended that we visit on the slope of Etna. We did a degustation for €15 each which was magical as it overlooked the surrounding towns and villages!

We loved the old world atmosphere of this family run hotel, yet combined with a modern, good sized swimming pool.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful, even the taxi drivers the hotel used were eager to help and treated us to free samples of Sicilian snacks!
Lovely views of Mount Etna which obligingly erupted on our last night there.
Surrounded by by lemon groves which we walked in freely.
We liked the restaurant attached to the hotel and thought the food to be very good quality though, after two meals there, we'd probably eaten most of the items we liked on the menu.
Only downside is that the hotel opens onto a run down part of Giarre though I think only a couple of the rooms overlook the road. I'd been made aware of this by other Trip Advisor travellers and had requested rooms that didn't overlook the street which we were given. It was great to view Etna erupting from the small balcony on our room.
We would happily go back to this hotel again.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms not overlooking the road at the front - only a couple of them I think.

A pleasant small hotel with extremely helpful staff and a fantastic view of Mount Etna. The rooms were clean and functional and there were lots of little extras included for free in our stay such as being able to arrange tea by the pool and using the hotel bicycles to explore the lemon groves.

We stayed here at the end of October for a week. The hotel is housed in a three hundred year old former farm and vineyard and is full of character, with a fantastic view of Etna. The staff are charming and friendly and the bottle of prosecco which was given to us, complete with champagne flutes and an ice bucket, when we arrrived late on the Saturday night was a lovely welcoming touch. The food in the restaurant (which, during the week, was host to two large-ish family parties and a fairly serious business dinner) was excellent. We had signed up for the "half board" package and found that the menu was limited after a couple of nights but they were happy for us to move to the main menu and the small (and very reasonable) uplift in cost in doing that was well worth it. The wine list was good and reasonably priced and the restaurant staff were helpful in identifying the best Sicilian wines for us to try. The pool was a good size and clean and there were plenty of loungers and sunbeds around it. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The minibar was a little limited in stock but that was easily solved by a trip to the local supermarket! All in all, a lovely hotel. Giarre itself isn't the prettiest place (although we only ever drove through it) but there is plenty to see within a reasonable drive of the hotel and I expect that in high season, there will be much more life to the beachfront, a short drive away than there was in October/November!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper floor with a view of Etna (which will also give you a view of the pool...
