My stay at the lodge was relaxing and a recommendation to anyone who needs time away from a busy lifestyle. A great combination of warm and welcoming staff, good food and a spectacular sunset from the restaurant/bar all made the long boat ride across the lake worthwhile. Walks around the island were also very enjoyable. A great experience at an affordable cost.

My father and I travelled on the Sparrow boat to Likoma Island. The lake crossing took just over 6 hours - which felt a bit long - but was worth it!

Ulisa Bay Lodge has an extensive restaurant menu and a well stocked bar, where one easily gets chatting with both Likoma Island residents and visitors to the island. The sunset views from the bar and restaurant are incredible and are a must see. The rooms are big, clean and well serviced and good value for money. The beach was 20 metres away from my room which was perfect for swimming at any time of the day. This is a lodge to visit if one is looking for well priced but comfortable accommodation. The only thing that the kitchen staff could improve on is the timeliness of serving dinner. Also, while you are there be sure to ask the kitchen for some freshly fried breaded Usipa fish. It is delicious!

During our stay we did some lovely walks across the island where we visited the cathedral and town centre.

Coupled with the boat adventure (this is a guaranteed adventure) of the lake crossing, our three night stay at Ulisa Bay Lodge was both pleasant and relaxing.

I spent six nights at Ulisa. The swimming and snorkelling was superb. The water clarity and instant depth was unforgettable. The facilities, though basic, are more than satisfactory. I share the view of previous author on soundproofing.
Great bird watching and good fishing, along with very friendly and helpful staff made this a memorable holiday. Possibly some fly control would be an improvement. Getting off the Ilala in a high 'sea' on to a rocky shore at night was not for the faint hearted.

We have noted well the problem of noise between two of our chalets which have an interconnecting door so they can be used together as two family rooms. There are double doors between the two chalets. We have now given better sealing to both doors and have added removable sound insulation to help this problem. All our other chalets are set apart many meters from the next chalet to give peace and quiet.

Most of the year we have no flies but at the end of the mango season (December) there are some flies around. This year the mangoes were wonderful, large and sweet & all over the island so there were more flies than usual. We are obtaining some expert advice on Eco Friendly control methods so we hope to minimise the problem next mango season.

We spent four lovely nights at this lodge on a full board basis. The chalets are very spacious with a terrace that is perfect for sitting on with a beer and watching the sun go down. The only negative is that there isn't much soundproofing so if the person in the neighbouring chalet snores you'll certainly know about it! There is a nice bit of beach to spend your days lying on, watching the birds circling above and the day's catch of fish being dried out or borrowing a snorkel and going for a swim. It's about a 2.5km walk in to town to have a look around and visit the amazing cathedral which is definitely worth doing.

Likoma is a lovely place to visit for a bit of relaxation, especially now that the Illala ferry is running again, although due to time constraints we flew. If Kaya Mawa is out of your budget (as it is for most mere mortals!) Ulisa Bay is a lovely and much more wallet friendly alternative.

Our family of six spent 3 nights here. The setting is stunning, food excellent and the snorkelling
off the beach great.

We booked a 5 day trip through Chris Stevens who runs Nkhotakota Pottery Lodge. We got
picked up in Lilongwe in the morning an arrived at Nkhotakota at lunchtime.

At midnight we boarded the Ilala to get to Likoma. The return trip on the Ilala was during the day.
Our trip was very well organised, Chris has been very helpful and Ernest couldn't do enough
to help us around Likoma.

Highly recommended!
