We have just returned from our third visit to Finikounda. there are 3 very basic hotels offering bed and breakfast. Very treditionally Greek. Suitable for anyone who wants the real greek experience, friendly clean and very welcoming. Also in the next cove there is a a large hotel Golden Sun,with swimming pool and water sports.
the village now boasts a chemist and an ATM. about 14 restaurants, 2 pitsariasand a few bars.
There is a disco which is at the back of the village and doesn;t open uhtil July.So if you want peace and quiet but plenty to do this is the place.
There are several camp sites outside the village all next to beaches, and within easy reach of finikounda.
There are 4 beaches within walking distance from the village including one which runs from the harbour.
Places i have visited which are only a short drive from there include, M ethoni, Koroni, which have castles, also Pylos has a castle and a harbour and a lovely square with very old large trees for shade. Navarino Bay, Divari Lagoonand voidakilla Bay, which are very unusual, lovely beaches, sand dunes and nature reserve. Polylimni (many lakes) mrvellous if you are into exploring the gorge and great to cool off in.
Finikounda is a great place to escape from mass tourism plenty to exploreonly 1 hour approx. from Kalamata airport.
