We were completely blown away by the Secret Bay environment. We have never been so relaxed in our lives. The food was INCREDIBLE. Every meal just seemed to get better. The view from our Mapou bungalow was breathtaking, and although we didn't have a chance to tour any of the other villas, I have a hard time imagining a better view. We awoke each morning to the sounds of the waves on the beach and the songbirds in the trees. It was truly paradise found. The staff were a bit of a mixed bag. We LOVED Rosaline. She was an angel and took wonderful care of us. For the first half of our stay we had Jess, who was a little more hands-off, but very sweet and helpful. Their structure of service is unique and I thought they could have done a better job explaining things to us upon arrival, but we figured it out within the first day and were very impressed by their system of personal service. The hiking, touring, snorkeling, swimming, waterfalls, etc were are incredible, although I think some of our favorite moments were the quiet moments on our porch, or on one of their gorgeous private beaches. Both days we visited the beach we were completely alone. It was so romantic! Advice for future travelers: Absolutely stay here. Absolutely eat as many of your meals as possible here. Absolutely ask for Ryan as your tour guide. Our only gripe was that we probably weren't the best candidates for the Lion Fish hunt excursion. But all in all, a dream week at a dream hotel!

Room tip: We LOVED the Mapou bungalow. BUT for space, we look forward to trying one of the villas on our next visit.

Hey Jess, we were so happy to have you here!

I will be sure to pass on your sentiments to Rosaline; and I'm glad that you found Jess so sweet.

We will definitely use your comments to improve on our orientation and are happy that overall you had an awesome stay. We know guests value their privacy and “alone time” and are extremely pleased that you found this with us.

We will also mention your reference to Ryan. He will be happy to hear.

Captain Don is the coolest, so don’t worry about your Lion Fish hunt experience, you don’t have to be an expert, just willing to enjoy. You can always come back again for a do-over :-)

After my husband and I spent a month at Secret Bay during the Winter of 2015, we gave it 5 stars. After our month this year we wish it were pososible to give it 10 stars. All of he world class amenities, incredible staff and unparalleled services described in my 2015 review “Luxury without Pretention” remained. It was like returning to a loving family. It was wonderful to see again Marvin, the always-available man in charge, and Gilbert the attentive and helpful .driver who often drove us to swim at beautiful Coconut Beach. We again appreciated the lovely young women attendants Shemima, Bianca, Roselin Deslyn and Megan . As before, they brought our outstanding meals, cleaned our quarters, did our laundry, etcetc. , all with grace, dignity and skill in a timely and non-intrusive manner.

Rather than repeat last years description of Secret Bay itself, I’d like to tell the readers of Trip Advisor about some of the services by their outside providers, all of whom served us with the same warmth and generosity as the staff to make this another outstanding vacation.

Twice a week we met with Trudy, a delightful Yoga insructor who designed a helpful program specifically for us…two older people with orthpedic problems . This was done on the “Sunset Deck” with a beautiful view of the sea .
This was also the site of the excellent massages rendered by Frika.

Although Secret Bay. and its surround had been spared, much of the island suffered damage by the Tropical Storm Erica and was being rapidly rebuilt. We heard many stories about this experience. Our guide of last year Ryan drove us around to see the results of the storm, as well as returning us to some of the magnificent natural sites…waterfalls, etc.
Also, off-site, we toured around the island on S.B’s new boat captained by Don, who taught us about the history of the island, pointed out its trails from the sea and ended his fascinating tour by a snorkeling stop.
We also spent two days exploring parts of the island with Christine, a Swiss woman who has lived on the island or many years. This was not an ordinary tour…she clearly loves the island and wanted us to know its culture and its people. So, when we saw a farmer, she stopped and he introduced us to the farming of the unique root vegetables of Dominica. We learned how he planted, harvested and brought to market his crop. Through Christine we met other people and got a real sense of their warmth, hospitality and love of their island. One outstanding experience was visiting the house of one of her local friends who prepared a delicious island lunch for us and introduced us to her mother, her daughter and her grand daughter. We ended this “tour” by visiting Christine’s home and meeting her husband and teen-aged son.

Another wonderful off-site experience was our day with Dr. Birdie who introduced us to the beautiful parrots in the rain forest. His knowledge of the birds and the plants of the island was encyclopedic and his ability to spot the birds for us was remarkable.
The night before we left for home, we were deighted and moved when several of these people came a distance to our quarters to say goodbye.

Secret Bay, the creative product of Gregor Nasief and his wife Sandra Vivas is absolutely the most unique and wonderful resort we have visited in our 46 winters in the Caribbean. We have signed up again for next year..

Room tip: all bungalows and villas are beautiful, well appointed and have gorgeous views.

After two month-long stays with us we feel like both of you are family too! Its such a pleasure having you around and seeing to your needs. We thank you for your continued faith in our service.

Trudy, Ryan, Don, Christine, and Dr. Birdie are part of our extended family-- thank you for highlighting them in your review. They form a great and integral part of the Secret Bay experience and we are happy to have them on board.

Shemima, Bianca, Roselin Deslyn and Megan miss you lots and look forward to your return.

Gregor and Sandra are genuine hosts. This is their baby and they treat it with care and respect. They love meeting guests and this too makes for a very unique experience for our guests.
See you guys next year!!!

Dominica is a truly beautiful island, one of the most beautiful in the Caribbean. And Secret Bay must surely be the most beautiful place to stay.

We stayed in Zabouca Villa III, a perfect villa at the top of the cliff overlooking Secret Beach. The villa can be zoned off into three very spacious and comfortable areas: bedroom/bathroom, living/kitchen and veranda/dining. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need to self cater, although you also have the choice of your attendant cooking for you in your villa or bringing your meals to you at your selected times. Seeking private time, I was concerned about feeling uncomfortable with an attendant, but they really do give you as much space as you ask for - we saw ours only at meal times.

The view from the veranda was incredible - the northernmost tip of Dominica. Underneath the villa was our own private plunge pool and sun loungers, as well as a Weber barbecue and bean bag hammock.

The hotel staff were incredible. From the attendant, Megan, to the concierge Anthea who met us at our villa to arrange our activities, to Marvin the manager who was welcoming and made our comfort a priority, to the driver who offered us a lift up from the beach. And the food was delicious.

There is so much to see and do in Dominica. We went whale watching, walked to many waterfalls, swam in Titou Gorge, went on an Indian River tour, went horse back riding, visited the caves underneath the cliff with Captain Don, walked a nature trail and visited Syndicate falls with Dr Birdie, bathed in hot sulphur springs and went snorkelling in Champagne Reef.

We could have quite happily extended our stay in Secret Bay - it's a hard place to leave, thanks to all who made our stay so magical.

My family of four just got back from our stay in Dominica at Secret Bay. What an absolutely beautiful place. Our family has traveled all over the world and this place is definitely at the top. Dominica itself is unspoiled beautiful nature island not touristy at all. And Secret Bay over the moon beautiful. Everything is top end. No details are left out. Beautiful views, pool and plenty of space. And the service could not be better. Everyone of the staff super sweet and ready to attend to any need or whim we had. My kids (13 and 19) are very picky eaters and every request they made was filled without hesitation. The kids were thrilled as were my husband and I. I fell ill one day and the staff went above and beyond to attend to me. All you have to do is ask about an excursion and all arrangements are taken care of. We went whale watching which was amazing. If you like to be off the beaten path in luxury that is not pretentious...look no further.

Hi Edwards family. You guys are truly missed by all of us. Thanks so much for your comments. The Souce Shack staff will be happy to know how much the kids appreciated their efforts re their culinary requests. When you fell ill we could not stand the thought of you not being able to enjoy Dominica's beauty with your family. We just HAD to help! And you got to go whale watching... that is always a great treat!!! hope you come again.

We loved Secret Bay. we stayed at Zabuco Villa III. The service and the food were fantastic and the house is really great with an amazing view. Great architecture in a beautiful nature. very quiet and relaxing. There are also plenty of activities available, including Island tours, although you just want a stay in your villa. We should go back as soon as possible.
