You know those sceptical thoughts, when you see and read a website, but you can't believe this can't be true? Well, this happened to us. We thought the website about Secret Bay sounded to be real. Well, we were wrong. Totally wrong.
We stayed at Zing-Zing, the structure is beautiful, you feel very safe (despite all the hurrican news you might have heard.) and we just loved the concept to have all the meals in our Villa. The food is extremely delicious, and surprisingly for us even our spaghetti-fries-diet kids liked it very much. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Even though the whole place is not too big, there is enough to do, that even after 3 days we left some activities for the next time, and yes: that's for sure. We will come back.

From the moment we arrived to the island of Dominica we knew our vacation would be special, as it is an untouched, non commercialized paradise. Our driver from the airport gave us an excellent guided tour as he drove us to the resort. It was very nice of him to highlight areas along the way & teach us a few local creole phrases we could use while visiting.

Once we arrived at the resort, we were greeted by a very welcoming staff & given a tour of the property, the amenities & briefed on the resort activities. The staff also came to stock our villa (Ti Fey) & presented us with our meal options & daily activities plan. Our villa was a cozy, yet modern oasis tucked away in lush greens oceanside. It was equipped with books, games, and just about any other modern convenience imaginable. It was exactly as described and displayed on the website. The views were fantastic! It
was very relaxing to sit on the patio & just listen to the birds above & ocean below.

The resort staff went above & beyond to ensure our stay was top-notch. The meals they prepared (including breakfast prepared inside our villa when requested) were creative & delicious. We even opted for a 'traditional local breakfast' one day & the staff took the time to explain each dish (a must have if you visit).

We took a couple tours during our stay (all arranged by the resort staff). The Indian River tour was a lot of fun & included a relaxing boat ride. The tour to the Trafalgar falls, complete with a stop at the hot springs for a dip in the sulfur baths, is also a must-do.

Overall our stay at Secret Bay was made extra special by the phenomenal staff as well as the friendly people of Dominica. Special thanks to Merlinda, Marvin, Sara Lee, Jess, the amazing culinary team of the kitchen. In addition, we had the privilege of a warm welcome greeting by the owner of the property himself. We've told our friends & will definitely be planning a return very soon, as this is a truly special place!

We chose Secret Bay based in part on excellent ratings on TripAdvisor and glowing coverage and rating in other media. Our time at Secret Bay was amazing! The food was excellent, the villa (zabuco III) was fabulous, and the grounds are gorgeous.

A couple of notes that I believe are necessary to point out even though they've been commented on previously. If you look at the resort map, zabuco II and III are near a highway. You should expect highway noise from your villa. If we were to visit again, we'd choose accommodations farther from the road to minimize those noises. This is something we should have asked about before booking our villa.

In addition, and again this is on the website and prior reviews, you are billed for the cost of the food at the end of the stay...only food preparation (for two meals) is included. This is a bit different than other resorts, so just be prepared that meals are covered in this manner. Also, a couple times we went to the souce shack to get some dried fruits for an outing. Although this was mentioned in our resort materials, the staff there seemed surprised we were asking...and we certainly got charged for that dried fruit. We understand why Secret Bay might charge in this way in order to dissuade mis-use, but we'd honestly rather pay more upfront.

Finally, we'd recommend trying to sit down with your assigned concierge as soon as possible (e.g., day of arrival at Secret Bay) to talk through any logistics and to be upfront about how you want to spend your time (e.g., outings, relaxing on property, etc.). As with many vacations, we didn't have as much time as we would've liked and retrospectively would have probably given our stay (and outings) a little more structure.

Just to re-emphasize though, this is a wonderful resort, and it was an amazing experience. With a little planning and forethought on the travelers part, it could be a perfect vacation.

Room tip: Look for villas away from the highway for more quiet

Hi Saneb-traveler. Thank you for your feedback. We truly appreciate it. With respect to your notes, Zabuco II and III are nearer the highway, but very elevated, and just to add that it’s a two-lane road that can be a bit busy in the mornings and in the afternoons at particular hours when persons are going to and coming from work in the city. Regarding food, it is billed at the end of your stay, however we do advise guests that it is estimated to cost $600-$900 dollars in total for a couple for a 5 night stay. Typically our concierge meets with guests as soon as they arrive. We apologise that this was not the case with you. We hope you will still consider us for a future visit. We’d truly want to see you fully satisfied.

It's been nearly a year, but finally I'm taking the time to reflect on our perfect stay at Secret Bay. I'm an OCD vacation planner, and wanted just the right place for our 25th anniversary. We stayed in the Ti-Fey bungalow. Although a bit closer to the neighbors than we had hoped, it still felt private and immersed in nature. Birds visited our deck every morning. The resort is a perfect balance of seclusion and activity. We loved the option for food served anywhere on site. It was all delicious. A memorable sunset deck dinner was one of our favorites! Staff was attentive but not intrusive. Getting to Dominica was not an easy trek from Ohio, but we both agreed it was worth it! For us, a once in a lifetime splurge. You won't regret your choice, if you are a nature lover and don't mind feeling off the grid a bit. Don't expect night life other than a good book or gourmet dinner!

My husband and I honeymooned at Secret Bay in November and had an amazing experience! We stayed in one of the bungalows for eight nights, and it was perfect for us. The personalized service was far beyond our expectations, and they blew us away with amazing meals that were prepared used fresh local ingredients.

We are relatively adventurous in nature, and sought a mix of romance, adventure, and elegance -- and we found it all in Dominica at Secret Bay. The concierge helped schedule every activity we had on our list, including guided hikes, snorkeling trips both day and night, botanical retreats, pools, and waterfalls. We also really enjoyed taking the kayaks to the private Secret Beach which we enjoyed all to ourselves several times during the trip.

We will be back to Dominica and Secret Bay -- the Dominican people were very friendly and welcoming. The island is still recovering from Erica, but the effects did not hamper our experience in any way.
