We went to Secret Bay for our 13th anniversary, and had an amazing time. We were worried about the timing, as that is right in the midst of storm season, but we had wonderful weather the whole time - just one afternoon of on-and-off rain.
We stayed in the Mapou bungalow, which was gorgeous. We cannot say enough about the service provided - I am vegetarian and my boyfriend has Celiac's Disease, which can make for difficult meals when traveling. The kitchen staff were amazing, turning out delicious meals for both of us every single time. The other folks who took care of us were excellent as well, going far above and beyond what we expected - they even brought us gluten-free bars for my boyfriend to take along on a hike as a snack!
The care put into helping us plan out activities and coordinating with guides was so valuable and much appreciated. We had an amazing time on our anniversary canyoning with the folks from Extreme Dominica. Also, if you enjoy birding and/or learning about wildlife, definitely take a hike with Dr. Birdy - fascinating and informative. In addition, visiting in the slow season meant we had the guides for our trips all to ourselves!
Aside from that - such helpful and accommodating staff, beautiful views, and one of the most naturally beautiful countries I've ever been to. Highly recommended!

Quite simply this is probably the most amazing resort that we have ever stayed at. We managed to get the Zabuco Villa, which is perched on the very end of the cliff and is somewhat set back from the rest of the resort. We loved it. I think that of all the places we have been it might have been the most amazing view I have ever had. We could sit in the plunge pool or have our meals on the porch and just be amazed by what was around us.

The staff was absolutely 5 stars. The first night we needed a doctor for a minor insect bite - that got not so minor - and they had a dr called from the other side of the island. He even wrote a prescription that we could get filled the next day. But whether it was the resort staff or the attendants or the chefs or the guys helping us with the kayaks - I've never met a group that was as collectively professional and friendly as they were. They give you a cell phone when you check in that has all of their numbers programmed into it - we never had an issue reaching anyone when we needed to.

The food was absolutely outstanding as well. It took a little getting used to not having bars or restaurants to walk to but then you have to remember - they will just bring everything to you! Great selection of food for every meal and some that just blew us away - count me in as a huge fan of the curry goat. But it is important to note - this is not the resort for you if you need a bar/restaurant to hang out in at night - as there are none.

The villa itself was unbelievable, just gorgeous. A really gorgeous open design and the appliances are all high end, top of the line. It makes you really appreciate all of the time they took to build the place and made me wish my kitchen at home was a little nicer.

I will say that when we left they were currently adding/building a few more villas on top of the hill. Might be worth it to check out how many they were adding. But the "original" Zabuco villa on the edge of the cliff is simply mind blowing - I cant recommend it enough.

If you are looking for a combination of a remote/quiet resort but with high end refinements and luxury touches, I would be very surprised if you could find a place as nice as Secret Bay anywhere in the world.

We had fantastic 4 days in one of the tree houses - the area, the treehouses, food and service were perfect. If Dominica wouldn't be such a fantastic island with so much to discover (I can highly recomment the diving up in the north around portsmouth) you would not want to leave the resort all day long.
We will be back for sure... Thanks to Gregor and his team!

In November we visited Secret Bay for our 4th time! Secret Bay has now become our second home. From the time we drive up to the gate, we get the big smiles and the welcome back from all of the staff that we have come to know and love! We stayed in Zabucco II again. You never get tired of the amazing views from the terrace and the spaciousness of the villa. It is a true vacation being at Secret Bay, from not having to worry about cooking your meals, they just turn up at the times that you have asked them to be brought, to just calling the security to have the kayaks brought down to the beach to go for that relaxing paddle around to the beautiful "Secret Beach" or maybe take a more challenging kayak across the bay to build up your appetite for lunch! We have fallen in love with Secret Bay and hope to be visiting for many years to come! Thank you again to all of the staff for making our stay so enjoyable, you are the best!

We stayed in Ti-Fey, one of two smaller bungalows, and it was lovely. We overlooked Tibay Beach and could hear the surf at night. Ahhhh, bliss! We ate every meal on our deck and watched the birds, lizards and iguanas in the trees. The food was very good and was always prepared with our preferences in mind. They also have a surprisingly good wine selection. The staff and management are phenomenal and go out of their way to make sure their guests are happy and well cared for. We left all of our excursion planning to Marvin, and he really came through for us. We even ended up at both Middleham Falls and Trafalgar Falls with no other people around! That was mostly by chance, of course, but Marvin made sure we went on a day when no cruise ships were in, and it really paid off.

The Zambuco villas are incredible. We were given a tour of the one that's featured in most of Secret Bay's photos, and we were blown away. The accommodations and the view are stunning. It's also very private.

The bungalows (Ti-Fey and Mapou) are considerably smaller than the villas, but the designers made very good use of the space, plus they do have great views. I agree with another reviewer about the annoying lights shining into the Ti-Fey bedroom at night. They also distracted from stargazing.

The island itself is gorgeous, and every person we met was kind and friendly. Dominica is not your typical touristy Caribbean island, and we hope it stays that way. It may be a little difficult to get there, but it's worth the effort. We absolutely plan to go back.

Room tip: Ti-Fey and Mapou bungalows provide the best value, at almost half the cost of the villas, but are considerably smaller. The views are still excellent. Zambuco I is the best of the best. It has privacy, incredible views, and tons of room. You couldn't ask for anything more. All that luxury does come at a price, though. We met the couple who were staying in Zambuco III, and they said that there was quite a bit of road noise.
