Our first trip together and loved our time in Dominica - it has old-Caribbean flavour and really is an Eco paradise. Secret Bay was our treat at the end of this trip - and it surpassed our expectations in many ways. The architecture and furnishings of our private tropical bungalows combined the best materials and styles from the region with modern flair - very comfortable, contains any amenity you could want - including a great movie library and sound system, and selection of chilled wines. The service and food sets this place apart from any Caribbean lodge or hotel I have ever been to. The setting is secluded, shaded under the trees, with a private beach, and sunset views over the ocean.

This has to be one of the most incredible and memorable places we have ever visited. If you are looking for literally a secret haven experience this is it. And why rent extremely priced villas in the caribbean when you can stay at the stunning Zabuco villa perched atop your own private cliff. We got to tour the Zabuco villa although stayed in a nearby 'tree-house' style bungalow with mega luxury flare and feel. Fine appliances, decked out kitchens and and villa attendant service was fabulous with pre-stocking options. For example we pre-stocked for breakfast with homemade yogurt, granola and fresh squeezed island fruit juice every morning. This place was extremely well planned by the owner Gregor and his wife Sandra - truly an impeccable vision. Gregor grew up playing on the land and beaches where his hotel now exists, so who wouldn't know it best right! With little cutting down of the trees, the hotel was built with care and island cozy in mind. What a great guy, Gregor casually stopped by to say hello and introduce himself and chat a bit about the story behind Secret Bay. Romantic, breathtaking, intimate, and overall the experience made us cherish this place - the people here truly made our stay. Dominica is magical in itself, and our stay at Secret Bay was unforgettable. Check out a ton of photos and my full review on Secret Bay here: http://ow.ly/xh3JQ

I had booked the trip as a last minute surprise getaway for my boyfriend and me. I had no prior knowledge about Dominica and had booked the trip solely from the great reviews I had read about Secret Bay—it couldn’t have been a more perfect trip. Anastasia was wonderful and had helped me throughout the entire process from the booking, to dining selections, planning excursions, and just ensuring the entire trip was more than I could have ever asked for. We stayed in the Zambuco Villa which was picturesque, clean, updated, and simply beautiful. The villas are organized in a way that allow privacy and serenity, while providing breathtaking views from every direction. The island as a whole was an untouched paradise. The staff helped us plan our expeditions for the weekend, and recommended great local places for dining and exploring. Ryan, our favorite cab driver, took us throughout the island and was extremely knowledgeable about its history, culture, and nature. The staff at Secret Bay was incredibly friendly and accommodating to our every need. It was the perfect medley of adventure and relaxation. In the short three days we were there, we went on a private boat charter, kayaked the Bay, hiked a few waterfalls, snorkeled Champagne Reef, toured the capital, and lounged on the beaches. Secret Bay made sure we had food and drinks for every day’s excursion along with any equipment we would need. All in all, we couldn't have asked for a more wonderful experience. Our retreat to Secret Bay was better than any hotel or resort I’ve ever stayed at; it felt much more authentic and adaptable to our every need. I would recommend this vacation to anyone, as long as they’re staying at Secret Bay. We cannot wait to be back!

This was a little on the top of our price range, but it was worth every penny. Dominica is not the stereotypical Caribbean island, where the land is all flat and everywhere you stay walks out to a flat sandy beach. Rather, it is known as the "nature island," and you have to be open to that. Secret Bay itself actually has 3 beaches, and only 6 villas right now (they are expanding), so at most if every guest is visiting the beach, you can still move to one of the other three and have no more than one other group on the beach with you. However, you do have to kayak out to 2 of them. The trip is very easy, but it does need to be noted that you have to at least be in decent physical shape to enjoy the island and resort fully.

Secret Bay employees must also be commended on their customer service - it is fantastic! They can set up excursions to you, and are selective about the guides they will use. They home-cook the food at the resort, and then your personal "villa attendant" brings the food up to your villa, sets your table, and leaves you to eat. All of the accommodations are beautifully done, and the larger villas even have private plunge pools. It was a very relaxing, private vacation, which is exactly what we were looking for.

Room tip: The Villas are much larger, and have covered decks and private plunge pools. However, the bungalows, while smaller, are closer to the beach. This was really nice when we opened our doors at night and were lulled to sleep by the waves. Make your decision based on which is more important - all are fantastic!

We recently spent 3 nights at Secret Bay and it certainly exceeded our expectations in every way! The drive from the airport was proof that we were in a very tropical location, everything green even though its not their rainy season. When we arrived at Secret Bay, we realized that there was no traditional reception area, instead we were met by Marvin in our Zabuco villa who went through all the features of the villa and took our list of meals and activities.
We felt very fortunate to be able to stay in a villa that was high up on a cliff with a fantastic view of the west coast of Dominica and Guadeloupe visible off in the distance. The natural noises of the birds and the sounds of the wind through the trees and the cool breezes that came through the villa certainly made us feel that we were somewhere special and that we didn't want it to end.
On our third day the rain just drizzled most of the day and it could be seen coming down from the mountain and through the valley, we didn't want to spoil those natural sounds or feelings with any television or radio! Even though we had sun most of the time, that day was certainly special.
We also really enjoyed kayaking and snorkeling in the very calm sea and there was endless space to kayak safely as far as you wanted.
Our own chef/room keeper (Roselyn) kept us fed with excellent meals (the Callaloo soup is outstanding) and our villa was always clean and well maintained, everything worked. We were also well looked after by Anna and felt that the staff were only too happy to make sure that we had the best possible experience.
Gregor and Sandra, you have a truly beautiful resort and we feel very privileged to have been able to stay there, thanks again!
