Absolutely stunning! The most memorable and enjoyable accommodation we have ever stayed at. Cocktails (particularly the special) and food were delicious too.

The couple running the place are very friendly and warm hosts. The team working for them are equally friendly. There are good tour options run by them too. It's a remote location, and 2-3 days is a good length to stay for. Well worth the long drive into the middle of the nature reserve to get there.

This place is very romantic, surrended by palm trees infront of the Caribben sea offers nice bungalows and suites in a very nice ambiente. We spent two nights in a Loft-suite with a fantastic sea view, you can ear the ocean and enjoy the sun riese .The room is very spacious and the kingsize bed very confortable..We walked to the right and left along the beach and were just alone in paradise !.We enjoyed a first class food cooked by the host himself who is really a first class cook.,we apreciate very much the friendliness of Franklin at the restaurant.Breakfast is also good but not included ..Safe and Internet are extra . From Sol Caribe you can drive to Punta Allen and make tours in Sian Kaan. All this area of the Riviera Maya is really worth to see,it is wonderfull to relax but not as a point to visit places outside the Sian Kaan , the road from Tulum to Punta Allen is full of holes and it means a long drive specially with a small car , so you better stay for at least one night at this fantastic place, and just in case..take a mosquito lotion with you !

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at Sol Caribe. We stayed in the private beach bungalow (highly recommended). It was private with beautiful views. Whilst it is about 3 hours from Cancun, it was well worth the journey for 10 days. Activities are limited to a couple of day trips, fishing snorkelling etc but this was exactly what we were looking for. We opted for the all inclusive deal which was easy and great value. The food was fantastic - fresh produce and cooked with a lot of love and care. The managers as well as all the staff were friendly, made us feel welcome and were very accommodating. To call this a 'resort' would be doing an injustice. It was small, personable and the eco friendliness is a great addition. It's a paradise I would return to in a heartbeat. One of our most memorable holidays ever.

Now sitting here in front of my laptop, I can hardly believe I’ve been there and seen it all. The hotel Sol Caribe and the place itself have not only lived up to our expectations, they have by far surpassed them, leaving us with unforgettable magic memories.

We travelled as a couple and spent a most beautiful week far from touristic crowds. Neither of us has done it before. Once you travel to such places, you will be so reluctant to come back to touristic destinations. There are very few things in life which you can really compare with the beauty of untouched nature. Well, I guess even none…

Driving an Off-Road Car

Having rented a 4x4 Jeep Wrangler at the Cancun Airport, we had spent almost 3 hours until we reached our destination in the middle of the jungle. The choice of a car was just perfect for at times uneven bumpy jungle road from Tulum to Sol Caribe. At some point we found ourselves on a narrow strip of land, with the Caribbean Sea being on one side and calm waters of a lagoon on the other. We stopped several times to take a better look at the surroundings – the roof of the jeep seemed to be quite helpful ;)

Sol Caribe: Rooms

Sol Caribe offered us a very comfortable accommodation: clean, spacious and tastefully decorated rooms, a beautiful sea view but most importantly a very warm welcome and kind atmosphere. In the room there was no minibar but sufficient supply of fresh water. One thing which I was probably missing in the room was a shampoo (we saw just a body lotion and a shower gel). However, this was no problem after all because we brought our own.

The best thing to my mind was the absence of TV as well as that of mobile network and Internet in the rooms – all those real communication distractors of modern times (in urgent cases we went closer to the welcome desk of the hotel to be connected to Wi Fi). It’s an amazing experience for people to suddenly have more time for each other. Just make sure that you are going there with the right person ;)

Sol Caribe: Restaurant

We didn’t have an all-inclusive package which the hotel offers because we were planning to go also somewhere else to eat. However, the food at the hotel’s restaurant is delicious. So if you are planning to stay most of or all your time at the hotel, all-inclusive might be a better option.

Sol Caribe: Beach

We found the beach wonderful. The sea waves are usually calm in the morning and moderate in the afternoon: you can perfectly swim there. You can also take long walks to either sides of the beach or a walk to the lagoon on the other side of the hotel. I think it takes no more that 5-7 minutes to get there.

Things to See and Experience

Apart from that, on one day we took a drive to a small village of Punta Allen located about 15-20 minutes away by car where we stopped by a restaurant. On the other we went to see three towers in the jungle as well as the lighthouse at the very edge of the peninsula. Still on another day, we took an interesting boat tour offered by Sol Caribe. We spent a wonderful time watching birds living on the islands nearby, turtles surmounting to the water surface, various colourful fish swimming alongside the coral reef, walking between two islands, trying to fish ourselves etc.

A good piece of advice would be to take a mosquito repellent. Although it was not much of a problem, I would still recommend taking it with you.

Universe Above Us

It was just once that we left the place in order to see the Mayan ruins in Tulum and then having dinner at Playa del Carmen. It was already quite late when we were driving back to our hotel. Maybe it was not the best thing to do at night because everything we had were the car lights showing us the next several meters of the way. We had to be very careful. However, we were rewarded for this adventure: when we stepped out of the car at one point, we saw the whole universe around us. There was no light from touristic resorts blocking the shine of billions of stars which formed the constellations I just read in the books about. The sky was perfectly clear, and it seemed as if we had been standing under the largest dome one can imagine.

Inspired by this experience, during the next days we waited till the lights of the restaurant at the hotel had been off and went to watch the stars on the beach. Although you could not see the full picture like the one in the open spaces in the jungle, but it was also very beautiful. With an app Sky View, you have a great opportunity to check the constellations. Having said this, I’m thinking of the Mayans who were great at observing and studying the sky without our modern electronic devices.

We would like to express words of thanks to everybody who has cared for our wonderful stay at Sol Caribe. We wish this place remained as special as it was during our stay there at the end of February – the beginning of March 2013.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories of SOL CARIBE. You are right the sky is so special when all the lights go out and the stars are amazing. We are glad to hear that you have enjoyed it as much as we do. Regarding our toiletries, in addition to body lotion and shower gel we also provide complementary shampoo and conditioner in all our rooms. If you were not provided with the complete set of the room amenities we are very sorry ! We look forward to see you again one day ! Warm Regards,

You want to 'get away'? This the place!
A 3 hours drive from Cancun or about 90 minutes from Tulum.
The reward: no TV, no minibar, no aircondition and the best: no mobilephone connection! If you are lucky enough, the WiFi is not working eighter, since the internetconnection via satelitephone is not 100% reliable.
The rooms are beautifull, spacious and very well mantained. We were a group and all 5 rooms we stayed in were equally cosy, just don't stay at the beach cabana if you find the sound of the sea unnerving ;)
The food is excellent and carefully prepared, the bread and pasta are homemade. Stop by for lunch, should you go for a daytrip in the Sian Ka'an bioreserve and have a swim at this perfect beach.

Highlight was a daytrip with Agustín and Joani to the bioreserve which can be booked at the hotel. We saw turtles, dolphins, rays and miriads of birds very close to our little boat. It was a perfect day!

The massage was very professional and is highly recommended.

The staff is so warmhearted and friendly, just as lovely as the management: thanks to Yvonne and Mauricio! We will come again.

Great location. We had an excellant seafod lunch and looked at several of the rooms for future stays. Very impressive and the owner/manager and staff very pleasant and helpful.

Food great, fresh and reasonably priced for a Boca Paila location. Worthwhile a stop when visiting Punta Allen.

Room Tip: Lunch only.
