We have just returned home having spent 22/12/06 to 5/01/07 at Coral Mist , the hotel lived up to the very positive reviews previously posted. We had a Penthouse deluxe apartment which far exceeded our expectations in terms of size having a spacious Lounge, good sized Kitchen with all appliances you could need, excellent bedroom and shower room together with two very spacious balconies with dining furniture & loungers.
The hotel overlooks a beautiful beach and has a perfectly adequate pool area. The proximity of the south coast road to the rear of the hotel did not trouble us at all.
We only had occasion to use Reggie, the activities guy twice but each time his arrangments were perfect for us.
We only used the hotel restaurant twice for lunch and each time it was fine, the only reason we only used the restaurant twice was the choice of exellcent restaurants and bars within close proximity and a lot of our fun on holiday is trying out different places.
Overall Coral Mist was perfect for us and when we return to Barbados we would need a lot of convincing before using a different hotel.

Couldn't fault this hotel excellent facilities in the rooms- iron & board, cable tv, modern well equipped kitchen. ( only thing you need to do is fill up the salt & pepper pot). Studio room has a really large bed and the bathroom has a large walk in shower with hairdryer. The Balcony is a good size with a table and chairs and all rooms have an ocean view. The beach is literally 5m from the front of the hotel and the beach itself is very private and about 15m in depth to the sea.

The location is fantastic restaurants, bars, supermarkets close by and the Gap about a 10 min walk.

The hotel in an nutshell is excellent value for money with very polite staff who make you very welcome and can't do enough for you.

The rooms were of high standard, spacious and clean, a real home away from home.

The staff were so warm and welcoming from the receptionist to the housemaids.

They exceeded our expectations and accommodated us perfectly.

We were quite a large Wedding party of over 70 and they catered to our needs with every bit of professionalism.

As too did their sister hotel The Blue Orchid next door.

Situated on a main road, the location of the hotel made it so easy to get into the heart of town as well as St Lawrence Gap (Nightlife).

The concierge "Reggie" this is the man to see if you need anything from car hire to a catermaran cruise. He will be able to sort it.

Thank you all, we can't wait to come back.

Stayed at the Coral Mist for 10 nights at the end of May/early June 2006.

Room - very clean and everything provided. All rooms have seaview and what a view in a morning!

Dining - the hotel has a restaurant/bar which is ok for lunch - but to be honest in the 10 days we probably saw 5 couples dining there after 6pm. I'm not sure that this was anything to do with the quality of the food however - more that with so many nice restaurants on your doorstep then why eat in the hotel??

Beach - the beach is fantastic! You are at one end of a long beach which practically runs all the way to St Lawrence Gap - which is about a 20min walk away. Alternatively you can walk on the road/pavement which practically follows the road. The beach was very quiet during our stay and you do not get hassled by the beach vendors as you do on the west coast which was nice. The sea was fairly rough and for adults was fine however care must be taken if you have children.

Restaurants - there is an excellent restaurant next door called Champers and then if you drift further afield into the Gap there are the likes of Southsea, Pisces, Harlequin, The Ship Inn etc. You will be truly spoiled! We also visited The Cliff on the Saturday which was excellent - the service was second to none - however the guests were a little pretentious! Don't get too drunk and order the $2000 dessert wine!

Staff - how can I forget the legend that is Reggie the activities guy. Reggie will take care of everything for you - he booked us a car for the day, got us a table at Southsea restaurant, booked us the table at the Cliff on the day of the booking - the guy is well connected! On the night of The Cliff - I asked Reggie to sort me out a good taxi - low and behold at 8pm I got a call from "Davey" who was waiting in reception - we then followed him out to his car - a 5 series BMW - needless to say it was a very comfortable ride up the West Coast.

All in all I'd recommend this hotel to anyone.

We stayed at the Coral Mist for the 18 nights and despite one or two minor niggles we enjoyed it immensely.

The niggles were to do with the promised upgrade which didn't materialise and this was put down to the hotel undergoing some minor renovations. Another minor problem was the beach towels. To get one you're supposed to leave the dirty one in the bathroom and the maid will change it. Not much use if you want to take it to the beach or pool. Yes, you can get round it by spotting a maid and swapping the towel but why not just allow guests to change towels at reception or the activities desk.

Okay, moaning over. The room we were allocated (B202) on the first (second if you're American) floor of Coral Mist was clean and spacious with all the equipment and utensils you could need unless you're planning on cooking a banquet. The view from the balcony was excellent and you could see all the way down to Sandy Beach.

During our stay the smaller pool at Coral Mist was deserted and we came to think of it as our private pool. The slightly bigger pool, at Blue Orchids, was a bit busier but not by much. The Blue Orchid pool is the best place to watch the sunset and in case you didn't know it's much more vivid watching it through sunglasses.

Food at the Coral Mist was okay. We didn't try the breakfast but they looked alright from what we saw. Lunch was typical fast food but the tuna pitta pockets were very tasty. We ate out every evening and, as others have done, I'd recommend; Berts, Opa, Carib Bar (but Sunday evening is very, very, busy) and of course, Oistins. A tip for Oistins, go on a Sunday evening and you'll be among Bajan families rather than a load of tourists. Bajans tend to head for 'Georges', the grill nearest to the car park. You'll see the queue from about 7.30 to 8.30. Pick up the booklet 'Barbados by Night’; it gives details of several good restaurants. A previous reviewer said the choice of food was either poor or too expensive and, as he was French he'd know about both, and put this down to Barbados being a former British colony. The reason it's so expensive is twofold. Most food is imported which bumps up the cost dramatically and Barbados wants to be seen as being an exclusive destination. There are plenty of places where you can get a nice meal at a reasonable price, stick to local produce and fish and you can't go wrong whatever your nationality.

Big B's is the better of the nearest supermarkets, fresher and more choice than the slightly nearer one. Turn right out of the hotel, left at the traffic lights and walk for about two minutes and you're there. The Big B shuttle will take you back to your hotel if you don't fancy the 10-minute walk. The petrol station just by the traffic lights also stocks most things you'll need on the day of arrival (the chicken roti's are very nice).

Duty free prices for clothes, assuming you can find something you'd want to buy and wear - not easy even for my wife! - are about the same as you'd pay in John Lewis in the UK. Cave Sheppard is the best bet for clothes and there is small just before the petrol station. Even better it's air conditioned so even if you don't buy anything you'll at least feel cooled down when you leave. There is a larger branch in Bridgetown and another smaller shop in Holetown.

The best day out is the catamaran cruise, our favourite is with Tiami cruises, excellent and cheerful crews, as much or as little as you want to drink and plentiful food. A good day out if you hire a car is the east coast. Try driving to River Bay, climb the hill and watch the Atlantic Ocean crash against the cliffs. After River Bay go to the Round House for lunch, either indoors or out on the patio. Following lunch take a slow drive along the coast road or go to Cherry Tree Hill, spectacular view, nearly as good as the one from Hackeltons Cliff.

I could go on but I don't want to bore you any longer.

In summary, the Coral Mist is great value and we would (will) go back. Barbados can be expensive but doesn't have to be. Food can be good, bad or indifferent, jut as it can anywhere in the world, we've had lousy, over priced, meals in many places, even in France. The people in Barbados are generally friendly and keen to chat but like with the food, there are some not so nice ones. Yes, you will be asked to buy things on the beach, aloe vera, trinkets etc but a polite no thanks is usually all it takes to be left in peace. You will be offered drugs, all kinds, but again, a polite no thanks and they'll go away, they don't want attention drawn to them. Another reviewer mentioned prostitutes, maybe I've been unlucky, oops, I mean lucky, but I've never been propositioned. My wife has, several times, but that's another story and may say more about me than it does about her.

If you're booking a one-bed apartment at the Coral Mist then email them and ask for Room B211 or C204 or C304. B311 is the penthouse with an additional and very, very, private balcony. It costs a little more and the view is the same as B211.

We spent 11 nights at Coral Mist 16th - 27th Sept and it was just as good as our visit last year.

All of the staff at the hotel were always very pleasant and helpful.
Room was excellent and everything you needed was to hand. The views from the balcony were wonderful and the beach was just so relaxing. We found the barbadan people very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

We also found that the prices were quite reasonable to eat out and much preferred this holiday as opposed to say holidaying in Europe somewhere like France for example, which although much closer to home, is very expensive.

It is worth mentioning if you are looking for plenty of nightlife on your doorstep then it's worth doing a bit of research beforehand as the Gap is the place to be - if you like to be kept awake till the wee small hours! However it is only a 15 minute walk from Coral Mist to the Gap if you feel like some late night/early morning action occasionally!

If you want to relax, chill out and go with the flow then the Coral Mist fits the bill. It is easy to see why people come back to this hotel and to Barbados in general.
