It was a cool experience. The owner of this place has been collecting stuff about Ramallah for years and is even expanding by collecting stuff from all over palestine and the occupied territories as well. The building of this place used to be of his grandparents (if I remember correctly) and he turned it into a cool museum. When you’re there, you’ll receive free coffee/tea, cookies and fresh fruit. Then he tells you a story about this place which is very interesting and how he manages to keep going. I bought some of his souvenirs to support this place, he also didn’t except any tips. Very shaabi place and a definite recommendation for internationals visiting ramallah.
One of the most interesting places in Ramalah. The owner is incredibly welcoming and nice. Must visit un you are in Ramalah
A great place to learn about Palestinian heritage. The beautiful house was turned into a museum and an art gallery. You are welcomed with tea and biscuits by the very friendly owner. It also includes a shop with locally made gifts. Highly recommended
I loved my experience at Dar Zahran! It is so important to visit this house when you come to Palestine, to understand the Palestinian perspective and learn about what the people have been through. You can do all this here while also admiring the beauty and resilience of Palestinian culture.
Zahran is incredibly friendly and welcoming. He is also extremely knowledgable about the history and current situation in Palestine and will spend time explaining interesting and important information to his guests. The house is beautiful and historic. It is filled with paintings by the famous artists Ismail Shammout and Tamam Arif al-Akhal and other artifacts.
This place is very special! Thank you so much to Zahran for opening up his family home and sharing his experience with the world. Every one that comes through is guaranteed to learn something.
I visited twice whilst over in Ramallah for a dance festival; once with my mother and then again with my dance company. A wonderful example of Palestinian hospitality and history and a little sanctuary in bustling Ramallah. Well worth a visit with a great little gift shop with the dancers loved!
One of the things which impressed me most on this trip to Palestine was the number of new Palestinian museums which have opened. They did not exist 14 years ago and I really enjoyed spending my first few days visiting them.
Dar Al Zahran is one of these special museums which everyone should visit.
The Dar Zahran heritage building is an attractive historic building in Ramallah Al-Tahta. The house is a distinctive symbol of Palestinian life and culture and of a return to authentic cultural heritage.
For 250 years, this building has been the property of Ramallah’s Jaghab family, serving as a family home, guestchamber (Al-Madafeh), and the place of residence of Ramallah’s elder (Mukhtar).
Today it hosts an art gallery, a photo gallery of Ramallah from 1850 to 1979, a souvenir shop, and a Fairtrade corner selling authentic Palestinian food products, embroidery, pottery, books, and jewelry.
" It is a place where you can enjoy a journey through centuries of Palestinian life, taking a peek into the history and traditions of old Palestine to the modern day. Dar Al Zahran allows you to experience the life, love and culture of Palestine more specifically Ramallah through food, art, expression and creativity. "
The owner of the museum, Zahran, was also an absolute delight and greeted us with tea and sweets whilst sharing the history of the place. Definitely a top class attraction which must not be missed.
