“The best hotel in Ramallah”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2014

A 5* hotel that offers the conditions for at most 4* but excellent for the location. There are some small issues in the rooms like non working light bulbs or completely different offerings on the TV compared to the published list or windows are very dirty on the outside...
It offers a free bottle of water daily and opposite the street there is a small shop offering water and basics.
Breakfast was very good. Hotel has 2 restaurants and I recommend trying the local dishes and wine.
If the weather permits, the hotel has an outside swimming pool and relaxing area.
The hotel seems like a central place to Ramallah as I have seen many local and foreign officials meeting or staying there, including the former British PM Tony Blair.
15 minute walking distance from the centre of the town.

Room Tip: Go for the local salads and grills! Amazing!

3 nights on a business trip. Excellent friendly service from everyone. Rooms were fine. I had to get them to change TV remotes twice and this was done very efficiently as was delivery of a harder pillow. Bar area was great for a few business meetings. I think the food in the main restaurant needs to step up to be a bit more 5 star and this is my only criticism. If you want to go downtown to make a change to the hotel, it is less than a 10 minute walk. The reception were happy to help on this.

The hotel seems to be managed by a German director - one can see that everything is running smoothly and exactly as it should be for a 5* hotel. You have everything you need in your room, including possibility to make some coffee/tea and a free bottle of water daily. Breakfast is excellent as well as the Allegro restaurant, where you can have dinner in an Italian style and most probably served directly by the Italian cook, a very funny and charismatic person :). Too bad they are smoking in the restaurant - if you spend one hour there, you'll have to wash your clothes. The only thing I didn't appreciate is the simple fact that heating was not turned on for the whole hotel and it was quite cold during the first 2 nights - though, the remaining 3 days they switched it on, apparently after receiving so many requests from their guests, including my colleagues :)

We stayed four nights and had a very pleasant stay.

This would get a 5 rating except for a few very noticeable design and service flaws:
1) there is a glass wall to the bathroom overlooking the bed so that if you turn the bathroom light on it shines across the bed
2) the gym is in a remote area of the hotel. During summer, it must unbend nice because the machines overlook the pool but to enter, you take an elevator down to the basement, then traverse 2 long and empty corridors, then take a second elevator up the gym. This is a little spooky early in the morning or in the evening when I am most likely to use
3) although you will assuredly find something you will like on the breakfast buffet, the quality and selection is below that of most 5 star hotels, I also noted a level of disorganization and lack of training among the personnel : missing serving spoons, a spoon dropped to the floor and was put back in place without cleaning, some place settings were missing implements. Some issues may be caused by the political situation (supply) but others not

Very nice rooms and polite and accommodating staff

I Stayed at the Movenpick on Nov. 12th, 2013 for one night, as my original hotel was over sold. It was not the first time for me at the Movenpick, as I stayed there last spring.

Service in this hotel is nothing short of shockingly thoughtful and proactive. I asked for an iron and an iron board, but that took more than the time I expected. I called service, and I was told that it will be there in a few minites. after a few minutes, two young men from room serivce showed up to my door and insisted that they will take my clothes to iron. I said that I have a meeting that I have to catch, but they said that it will be quick. It took 7 minutes, and I opened the door to see very neatly ironed clothes. I mentioned to them that I have missed my breakfast as a result of not having an iron in my room, so before I left the hotel, I found a taxi ordered for me. As I approached the taxi, I heard one of the breakfast servers, I remembered him (Bashar), rushing towards me and said: Sorry that you have missed your breakfast, but we made a sandwich for you to take. That reminded me with my mother during school years. Really!

I was SHOCKED with the staff care, thoughtfullness, and their way to turn a disappointing sitaution to a massively winner one. My hat is off for the Movenpick staff and service dept. people. They are the best.

Room Tip: Higher floor comes with a nice view of the pool or the mountains around.

After the lengthy tedium of passing through Israeli security, there is immense relief in arriving somewhere like the Movenpick Ramallah. It knows how to deal with international business visitors: There's excellent Wifi, and it's free. What makes it so much better than its peers is the bedding: Just cocoon yourself in the delicious feather duvet and pillows. More minor details need work (some due to local infrastructure): Mediocre shower pressure, they need to buy more irons, in-room water wasn't replaced and why only one coat hanger in the wardrobe? That said, I found the staff unfailingly friendly and helpful during my four-night stay.

I have stayed in some lovely hotels with great facilities and service but I have to say that with some surprise, having stayed in some dodgy Palestinian and Israeli Hotels, the Moevenpick in Ramallah outclasses all the hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff are courteous and friendly and helpful in the extreme. The facilities are outstanding and for a chain hotel, the food was exceptional, fresh and interesting. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough for all its facilities, comfort, friendliness and pricing. Fantastic!
