Ampelia Hotel

The ampelia studios was a fantastic complex, just right for our little girls first holiday who is 14 months we felt very safe and the looked after.
The room was very clean and bright still looked new, the pool was beautifull and pool bar food was very good and well priced.
Would love to go back again some day!

We booked to stay at the Ampelia Hotel with Directline holidays (wouldn't recommend, particularly as involved Ryanair flight - avoid at all costs!!). Arrived after a nightmare journey, involving flat tyre and mad dash to airport on train, to a friendly welcome and a beautiul, clean and modern apartment.

The room was well kitted out and all had a view of the sea. There was plenty of space for the travel cot for our 2 year old. The appartments were cleaned daily and all the staff were friendly and very helpful. The pool area is probably the best we have come across on a european break - there is a smaller pool for children and a larger one for adults. It was spotlessly clean with decked areas and sunbeds for all (aleit we visited out of peak season). There is also a children's play area, but this is away from the pool area so if you just want to relax by the pool you wont be interrupted by kids playing. The pool bar does snacks (toasties, burgers, icecreams) at very reasonable prices. The bar area is gorgeous - the comfy rattan sofas and swathes of linen make for an extremely relaxing area for pre-dinner drinks or a break from the sun during the day.

We found the Ampelia to be very sociable - probably owing to its smaller size - everyone we met was lovely and we would often bump into others staying there whilst out in the evenings. While we were there, there was a mix of families and couples, younger and older.

It is about 15 minutes walk from the hotel to the beach in Hanioti (with buggy, so probably less without) and less than 10 minutes to the nearest supermarkets (there are several). The walk is slightly uphill on the way back but we managed several times a day with buggy and bump so shouldn't cause anyone problems. It was definitely nice to return to the Ampelia, which is slightly off the beaten track and surrounded by hills ad greenery after a trip into the busy village centre / beach. The beach itself is a mix of sand and shingle - not the best beach we have visited (we were spoilt with Lindos last year), however, definitely worth a visit.

Lots of restaurants / bars centred around Hanioti's main square - we were given a 10% off voucher for Palinni's on arrival at the hotel - we visited and was very nice. Even better was the restaurant on the opposite corner (roof terrace) - the best food we had all week - meatballs were to die for!

Only negatives (if being v picky) were the steps up to the room (we were on the top floor) and pool area were a bit of a pain with buggy and bump - there is no way of accessing the pool without steps - but this is a result of the hotel being built into a slope, which means you get great views / lovely scenery, so I know what we would rather have.

All in all a fantastic holiday, made so by staying at such a lovely hotel. We would definitely recommend and would like to return (albeit next time we would definitely go with Thomson / First Choice - being kindly diverted to Rhodes on the way home by Ryanair, doubling our flight time, confirmed why we shan't be using them EVER again!).

My son and i have have just returned from the Ampelia Studios 2/05 to 9/05 2011 for a weeks holiday. Although the weather we had was a disappointment only sun for 2 days & rain on and off for the others this did not spoil our overall experience. The studios are set in a lovely occasion on a hill & the views are amazing. We were greeted by smiling happy faces on our arrival by Poppy the owner, whom even carried my suitcase to my room. Her husband panderlise? was equally as happy & friendly. We found that nothing was to much trouble for these people, advising us of the best restaurants, beaches, & places to go, also supplying us with coats & cardis as we had only packed summer clothes. The accommodation was very comfortable & clean.. The area itself is very scenic & it is worth renting a car to get around..We went to Nea Marmara and found the scenery to be amazing. A trip to SOGAMBROS offered by the rep is not to be missed, a typical old Greek man & his wife to entertain you, and i must admit we had much fun on the day. The food offered in the restaurant was of good standard. Although the weather we experienced was unusual for this time of year it will not stop us from returning again. If you like a nice peaceful holiday in a good location then the Ampelia Studios are the place to be. We will be returning in the forseable future & the overall experience was excellent. 10/10

Room Tip: We were in room 23 and views were good

The apartments could not be faulted. They were clean and well equiped. They are family run and the owners can ot do enough for you, going out of their way to supply a special birthday surprise that my husband had asked for. The pool area is an absolute sun trap, getting the sun from 8 in the morning until sun set.

The two main 'faults' with the aprtments is that they are quite away from the centre of the resort. At times this can be a nice stroll and at others if becomes a chore (espeically if you are carrying shopping or it is a bit cooler). The balconies also look towards the sea, which gives a lovely view but means that they only get the sun briefly in the morning. You could sit at the other side, outside your 'front door', where it is pleasent but 'public'.

Room Tip: Higher rooms are better

We have just returned from a weeks stay at this property and it exceeded everyone of my expectations. Rooms were clean and nice, pool area is gorgeous. I travelled with my mum for a relaxing break and it did the trick. The hoteliers penny and pandalise are Absolutely lovely people and will do anything you want. One of best holidays we have ever had. Will be going back.

came here on an 'allocation on arrival' holiday and was really pleasantly surprised. apartments are basic but clean and you can pay extra for aircon. family owners were very helpful, pool area was really nice, views were gorgeous, and the main resort centre was only a 10 minute walk. probably wouldnt reccommend it for elderly people or people with prams because of the uphill walk up a track back to the hotel.
hanioti itself is lovely- lively but mostly greek tourists rather than the 'english crowd'. great 24 hour bar on the beach and clear blue sea water. was a perfect cheap and cheerful holiday.

Lovely and clean. very quiet apart from the local stray dogs and cats at night, sometimes barking etc, that can't be helped. Staff very reserved and rarely seen. ideal for a quiet holiday in nice surroundings. Didnt eat here so cannot comment. No hassle whatsoever. Town and beach superb. one of the best beaches i have been to in Greece and Greeek Islands. Would definately go back to resort but would like a hotel that had some entertainment and a bit more going on. Ideal for couples who want to relax and no fuss
