“Fantastic Holiday”
Reviewed April 11, 2012

My family which consisted of 2 adults and 2 children 8yrs and 3yrs stayed here in June 2011. I couldn't fault the hotel. It was very clean, a fantastic choice of food everything you could ask for. Lollies and icecream for the kids all day and night, good selection of drinks available until 11pm. Great entertainment all day and night.
The beach is gorgeous, shallow and clear. We took bread everyday to feed the fish. we didn't hire sunbeds we bought lilos but there seems to be an unwritten rule in the hotel that when you go home you leave all lilos, buckets and spades etc for other people to use when they arrive, we even ended up with a 4 man boat. There are a few steps down from to the beach which may be a pain if you have a pushchair but wouldn't spoil the holiday . Wouldn't recommend if you are in a wheelchair.
The waterpark on the beach is great and free for guests of this hotel. We used to go for the last hour and the kids loved it, you also get free drinks, lollies and icecream there too.
We hired a pedalow a couple of times as there is some lovely caves to look in and good to jump off and do some snorkling.
There isn't much near the hotel apart from a handfull of shops bars and restaurants but we didn't feel like we needed anything else. There is also a shop just around the corner from the hotel that does a free book swap which I used. There is also a hippy market if you come out of reception and up the road where you can get some bargains which is on once a week.
Overall we had a fantastc holiday, we stayed for 11 nights and wished we had stayed longer would not hesitate to go again only not going again this year as we are going somewhere we have never been before
Overall we had a fab holiday we stayed for 11 nights and wished we had stayed longer, would definately go again.

Room Tip: Get a sea view room if possible

We stayed here in September 2011. Hotel lovely and clean. Food was excellent, better than some 4* hotels we have stayed in. Seating area in the dinner area was a bit cramped, would of been more relaxing if more space. Entertainment was very good in the evening, especially enjoyed the Blues Brothers act. The surrounding area was a picture, lovely walks and enough bars and shops to visit away from the hotel. It was nice for ourselves to escape the hotel some nights and have a drink elsewhere within walking distance. The beach was fab and enjoyed feedind the fish that everyone was talking about. The only down side to the holiday was we thought the cost of sun beds on the beach were very expensive. Lots of people bought lilos to save money. This was okay.but not as comfortable and you had to cart them down the lift and all those steps every day, bit of a pain! Other thing was te smell of sewage, which was all around the area. Not to sure wether they might be pumping sewage out to sea. Was such a shame, cause the area itself was fab. This was the only put off to returning to this place.

Room Tip: When booking ask for a pool view. We didnt and ended up facing the road. Noisy early in the moring w...

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel , there is not much to do around but that suited us at the time as all we wanted was a quiet relaxing time . The hotel was full so obviously very popular ,and the all inc was great as always. The hotel staff were very good and the cleanliness of the hotel was super .I have never been a lover of the entertainment in the evening but did suffer it , although the stage is far enough away so you can chat or play cards if you prefer. We took the local bus to Ibiza town one day , which worked well and it was interesting to walk around the old town , although the shops did not interest me , so was glad to get back to the resort. A hippy market pitched up outside the hotel one evening which was fun , but all in all we did not spend much at all during our stay which was what we intended to do . If you can get a cheap deal at this hotel i would definately recommend this hotel and resort as its a beautiful place to be , just do not expect alot of night life , mind you our visit was in October so it was the last week of the season . All in all we had a very pleasant stay.

Stayed at the A/I El Greco Hotel for a late holiday in October and had a great time. Hotel was immaculate and staff worked very hard to try to keep it that way. We went A/I and kids could have ice cream and ice lollies all day long if they wished (you dont get this in many AI hotels). Lovely fresh made omlettes for breakfast and great choice of food - pizza and pasta counter, freshly made, grilled meat/fish choice freshly made and self service buffet. What would have been really made it would have been if you could get snacks, like hot dogs, burgers or toasties at the hotel pool/water park bar to save you having to go into the hotels restaurant for lunch, but otherwise certainly no complaints with the food or hygiene with very hard working staff. Only complaint would be about some of the hotels guests who had no manners and allowed their children to run amoke wasting drinks/food etc, and running screaming down the hotels corridors in the early hours returning to their rooms just because they were abroad on holiday, bet they would not do that at home. Shame on them (Unfortunately there are always some where ever you travel to!)
One of the receptionists was Scottish and had worked at the hotel for several years and was very efficient and helpful. The hotel is located beside a most lovely sandy cove, with steps which lead down directly from the hotels terrace. The beach was cracking great sand and shallow waters, we took bread rolls and fed the fish from our hands which was great fun. Hire of sunbed was 5 euros each and parasol the same but worth it for a day at the beach. We just wandered to the hotels water park bar for our drinks and ice cream and returned to the beach. The hotel has a small water park on this beach for use by AI guests, with races and games were sometimes held with other games held on the beach by the hardworking hotels entainment team. Evening entertainment was possibly the best we have experienced at any family hotel we have stayed at, with a hypnotist and quiz show host possibly the best shows we have seen as a family, Brillant fun. Portinax itself is a very SMALL resort with only a handful of restaurants and bars which a few off were closed being late in the season. We were glad we went AI. We hired a car very cheaply from one of the 2 car hire shops located in the village and toured about the island for the day, great family fun. Would recommend this hotel for a realxing beach based family trip. Ask for a room above the hotels restaurant area as rooms above here over the lovely sandy beach. Unfortunately, ours didnt but we will know for again! Only negative would be the swimming pool temp it was freezing with the sea water being warmer than the pool! No fights for sunbeds as pool was to cold to go into. It would be great if it was heated, but as hotel was located on beach, it was not too much of a problem. and Thanks El Greco for a great time we will return..........

Room Tip: Ask for a room above the hotels restaurant as all these rooms would look out onto the beach

In summer 2011 I went with my family to El Greco Hotel for two weeks, based purely on the reviews from trip advisor. We weren’t really sure what to expect, but were very pleasantly surprised.

The hotel was literally on the beach, and also next to a water park that my children really enjoyed. If you walk down the beach there are a few souvenir shops and once a week, there was a mini market right outside the hotel.

There was so much variety of food for our meals, which contained plenty of vegetables, fish and meat, which we were really pleased about. The staff were very friendly at the bar and in the restaurant, and the service in the restaurant was great. If you go full board, you gain access to unlimited ice cream and drinks from the bar.

The room was larger than we expected and we had a beautiful sea view from our balcony. The cleaners keep the rooms clean and tidy and because all the clubs are on the other side of the island, it was very quiet and peaceful at night.

It is a very family orientated hotel and so there were activities throughout the day for adults and children, such as water slide races, snooker games, darts and table tennis. These were also available to play with all the time for a euro or two.

A negative was that the pool was quite small and crowded. We didn’t actually get to swim in the pool or lie by it, as some people got up very early to put their towels on the sunbeds before breakfast. Also there was a smoking area outside and there were lots of steps down to the beach.

But all in all it was an excellent holiday and we look forward to going back next year!

Myself and my husband had a week away with my (pregnant) sister, her husband and small 2 year old in October 2011. To be honest it was booked with the idea that it was a cheap getaway with sun for October. (and had been booked prior to finding out she was pregnant again.
I'll try and be honest, I read the reviews before going but tried to go with an open mind. I booked through travel republic and arranged a shuttle from the airport to the resort through Ibiza Shuttles (much cheaper than airport taxi etc)
The shuttle was there waiting and only had one other couple to drop at another resort. (we had a text message to inform us what time it would collect us to go back to the airport during our stay, very convenient would use them again!) The ride was through some winding roads and got us there in one piece! about 30 minutes travel.
The lobby of the hotel is lovely, the receptionist (an elder lady) was lovely and very welcoming.
ROOMS - Sister had a larger room with cot space (we emailed ahead and requested cot) It wasn't initially in the room but one call to reception and it was there within about 15 minutes.
Our room was extremely small, room for a double bed and to walk around it. JUST. Our balcony overlooked directly to the opposite hotel (about 50 yards away) and it was NOT private. The TV didn't really have any chanels, no problems during the day but nice to watch a film in bed. However we thought that the room was clean and would be suitable to sleep in. Downside is you have to use the key card for lights and aircon - rooms are very stuffy and if you open the balcony door the aircon goes off. One person can't go off with the key so bit annoying. NO fridge in the room either.
Safe you must pay for if you wish to use.
DRINK - It was ok, I admit it is my first use of an all inclusive outside the carribean so knew the standards wouldn't be as good, however you have to use small childrens plastic cups outside even as an adult. I can understand the reasoning for around the pool etc but at the tables outside the bar.. There was an ok choice of non premium drinks, I would avoid the lager as that didn't taste very nice on any day I tried it.
My main issue was that from 11pm to 12am you have to pay for ANY drink you have (even soft drinks) and after that time despite being all inclusive you can only buy water or soft drink from a vending machine in the lobby. I wasn't happy with this as its not all inclusive.
During meal times there is a bar in the restaurant that you can help yourself to wine, lager and soft drinks - perfect - even if they turned off the alcohol overnight it would allow you to take some cold drink to bed.
They do not allow you to fill water bottles - and there is no where to do so. So when you head to the beach (you only have one small plastic cup) it is very annoying. However the other side of the beach there is a ramp up to shops and bars that you can buy big bottles of water at for very little cost.
FOOD - Everything I tasted was nice - there seemed to be a lot of variety to choose from but it was pretty much the same every day. However everyone should find something they like. After the evening meal closes (9pm) you cannot get anything else to eat and cannot take anything out of the restaurant - which isn't good if you have small children and toddlers that might need something at some point.
POOL - This hotel is on a cliff really and the pool is down some more steps to the side of hotel and only gets the sun for a small portion of the morning (probably why there are always sunloungers availible) - it is FREEZING - they do not even heat the little childrens pool. When our little niece went in she turned blue (as were all the other children) therefore we then opted for the beach and didn't try and go back in that pool. This was dissapointing for me as I'm not really a beach person so didn't get to use the pool.
BEACH - There are about 3 sets of 15 steps down to the beach (extra down to the pool also_ Beach is NOT private, anyone can use this. During our stay there was a bit of a storm and lots of jellyfish washed up on the beach- I didn't see any prior to this tho however did get stung from one in the water.
The beach loungers do not belong to the hotel - there is a scary lady that charges 10 Euro PER lounger, and 5Euro for umbrella for the day. If you have a family that is alot of money per day. Instead we bought lilos from the little shop next to the hotel for 5 euros and a little umbrella for a couple of euros and used this for the duration of our stay. Or if your lucky people leave them in the corridors by the lifts when they go home. I would advise using those.
ENTERTAINMENT - was awful - a magician that came in one evening was drink and sneaking out the side of the broom cupboard stage to drink and smoke whilst his assistant was on - didn't look good for the children.
However for children they had a little disco everynight - same music but the very little ones seemed to enjoy it.
To the other side of the beach up the steps (or ramp) there is a little village with shops and bars. Go to DEL BOYS - English family run bar that serves FANTASTIC british food and drinks for VERY reasonable prices. We had read about this before going and made sure we found it very early on. They are extremely friendly (and show the football, rugby and motor racing) and had a fab pub quiz where we won a bottle of rum! We met some lovely people in this bar and one family had chosen to pay for their food there than eat at the hotel for free (think the tv might have had something to do with it ;o)

STAFF - apart from the receptionist the staff don't really talk to you - the bar staff arnt particularly friendly when they serve drinks and neither are the waiting staff. Yes they cleared the tables well etc and the cleaning lady on our floor always said hello but that was about it.

In all, you get what you pay for- I certainly wouldn't go back - If you are single parent with buggy and small children going up and down those steps certainly won't be for you. Luckily everyone seems to be pretty helpful, we helped whenever we saw someone struggling but it was a nightmare to carry everything up and down the steps.

Room Tip: If you have children then email before you go to ask for a family room and cot if required. They wer...
