We stayed at Chesa Salis for three days in February 2014 and it was a perfect choice.
The old house is beautiful and the rooms are nicely renovated. We stayed in on of the smaller ones and still had everything we needed.
The biggest plus of the hotel in my opinion is the excellent service. Mr. and Mrs Degiacomi and all their staff helped with every question in such a friendly and familiar atmosphere that one can really feel at home. We were offered to be picked up at the station, get our skis from the station at another time, stay longer in the room before leaving - just to name a few services that are not natural in other hotels. Even more important, the friendlyness never seemed artificial.
The days were topped with a great dinner in the really nice hotel restaurant.
Definitely a place to come back and enjoy the wonderful Engadin scenery in an excellent hotel to relax.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Let`s dip into the past! We are located in Bever, a village where time seems to have stopped a hundred years ago. The Chesa Salis is an insider tip. It is part of a row of historic houses in the quiet eastern part of Bever, away from the bypass, almost invisible and that is how it should remain. Dating back to 1590, this intimate hotel harmonises character and style with modern comfort, winning “Historic Hotel of the Year” in 2015. The restaurant has a fine reputation with menus that pay particular attention to creative delicacies and regional specialities. We are away from the village, we don't have a swimming-pool, so we spoil our guests with good food and many smiles. The carved front door remains, matched by an elaborate wrought-iron gate. Off to one side is a small room for private parties that is 'like a doll's house, completely wood-panelled, with book-shelves, an escritoire and tiny windows'. The noble heritage of the building is witnessed today by its meter-thick walls, handsome craftsmanship, beautiful wood panelling, outstanding paintings, handsome beamed ceilings, intricate plaster etching on the exterior walls, frescoed ceilings, and colourful ceramic fireplaces. When you enter the reception area, there is an eclectic mix of old and new with handsome antiques blending with black leather sofas, and a contemporary glass counter highlighted by a modern painting. In contrast, most of the furnishings are definitely traditional in style. All of the guestrooms are lovely. Room 26 is a particularly spacious, beautiful room with large windows looking out to the garden. The most stunning room of all, #35, is tucked up under the eaves. Its white-washed panelled walls and low ceiling are exquisitely painted with antique, floral designs - like a music box. So let`s dip into the past! ... more less
