“Super-friendly and relaxing place”
Reviewed April 24, 2014

We stayed at Chesa Salis for three days in February 2014 and it was a perfect choice.

The old house is beautiful and the rooms are nicely renovated. We stayed in on of the smaller ones and still had everything we needed.
The biggest plus of the hotel in my opinion is the excellent service. Mr. and Mrs Degiacomi and all their staff helped with every question in such a friendly and familiar atmosphere that one can really feel at home. We were offered to be picked up at the station, get our skis from the station at another time, stay longer in the room before leaving - just to name a few services that are not natural in other hotels. Even more important, the friendlyness never seemed artificial.
The days were topped with a great dinner in the really nice hotel restaurant.

Definitely a place to come back and enjoy the wonderful Engadin scenery in an excellent hotel to relax.

Arriving at this beautiful Engadinian house which is over 400 years old is already a joy! The inside is carefully restored and covered with art work of various arists. The restaurant is famous for the meat from the open grill and its definitively worth any trip to go there for lunch or dinner!!!

The wine list is full of beautiful discoveries and clearly shows the owner's love for good wine.

The big sunny garden is beautiful in summer and winter

I have been at Chesa Salis twice this year, the owners and all the staff are very professional but friendly at the same time. I did like the very romantic room they gave us, but there is a good choice of different accomodations for everybody.
The restaurant is very nice and the new Chef ( from Germany) prepares very good recipes!
Even a mixed salad has a particular presentation and a smooth flavour.
It was a pity we could not have a wienerschnitzel....maybe next time.
I will come back very soon! Allegra...

I stayed in Chesa Salis during a warm week-end of October. Nevertheless the room, n 41 under the roof, was extremely cold. After the first icy night, I asked to warm it better but, after the dinner, noyhing was changed.(16 ° celsius). Mr Degiacomi then arrived with 2 tiny heaters that changed the temperatur of few degrees.
Adding that in the room there were not beds but 2 camp beds in the centre of the room, we had the clear impression to be in an extremely expensive camping! (Of course the bathroom remained frozen..)
I wander how you can feel in the cold nights of engadine winter!
On the other side the restaurant was flawless; the staff was very very kind and collaborative, but we can not say the same for the owner.
Maybe Chesa Salis was better than in my experience, but I surely will not come again: there are plenty of splendid and charming hotels in Engadine!

Room Tip: Do not choose room 41!!

We stayed three nights at the Chesa Salis and had one of the spacious verandah rooms overlooking the beautiful garden with old trees. The hotel has a lot of charm and is located in a small but pretty village with nothing much to do and see (besides hiking, of course). Just perfect to unwind and sleep and read and, most importantly, enjoy the delicious food at the restaurant on the ground floor or in the garden. Breakfast was also mouthwatering and the owners and their staff do a great job making guests feel at home.

The house was built in 1590 and was carefully renovated to keep the original architecture. It has a lot of antique interior which gives it a very warm and cozy feel. The owner is charming and looks very well after his guests. The restaurant is what really makes the stay a unique one. It was booked out every night we were there as many people come from everywhere to enjoy the highly rated cuisine. There are local specialties as well as gourmet meals. The wine card is huge and the owner knows every bottle.
If you decide to go in the summer to profit from wide array of outdoor activities the Engadin has to offer, there is one of the most beautiful gardens in the valley right in front of the hotel, where you can enjoy a nice swiss cheese fondue or have something from the barbecue grill.
It is well worth a visit!

The hotel, located in an historic late 16th building, is still as quiet & romantic as described in a fellow traveler's review written almost a year ago, but I did'not notice any creaky floors, our bathroom was roomy enough (mind this is a 3-star hotel, not the Ritz!), the bed did not sag and the food in their restaurant was absolutely delicious. Very good wine list too. Absolutely recommendable for a relaxing holiday!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Let`s dip into the past! We are located in Bever, a village where time seems to have stopped a hundred years ago. The Chesa Salis is an insider tip. It is part of a row of historic houses in the quiet eastern part of Bever, away from the bypass, almost invisible and that is how it should remain. Dating back to 1590, this intimate hotel harmonises character and style with modern comfort, winning “Historic Hotel of the Year” in 2015. The restaurant has a fine reputation with menus that pay particular attention to creative delicacies and regional specialities. We are away from the village, we don't have a swimming-pool, so we spoil our guests with good food and many smiles. The carved front door remains, matched by an elaborate wrought-iron gate. Off to one side is a small room for private parties that is 'like a doll's house, completely wood-panelled, with book-shelves, an escritoire and tiny windows'. The noble heritage of the building is witnessed today by its meter-thick walls, handsome craftsmanship, beautiful wood panelling, outstanding paintings, handsome beamed ceilings, intricate plaster etching on the exterior walls, frescoed ceilings, and colourful ceramic fireplaces. When you enter the reception area, there is an eclectic mix of old and new with handsome antiques blending with black leather sofas, and a contemporary glass counter highlighted by a modern painting. In contrast, most of the furnishings are definitely traditional in style. All of the guestrooms are lovely. Room 26 is a particularly spacious, beautiful room with large windows looking out to the garden. The most stunning room of all, #35, is tucked up under the eaves. Its white-washed panelled walls and low ceiling are exquisitely painted with antique, floral designs - like a music box. So let`s dip into the past! ... more   less
