Parkmore Holiday Cottages
Reviewed September 6, 2010

We took over the complex of Parkmore for our wedding and all extended family and friends fitted into all th individual cottages. Each was unique but stunning in its own way. Ourselves as the bridal couple stayed in Isla Lodge which was absolutely fantastic with its own little BBQ hut which we used for a huge family BBQ on the Sunday. Di and Viv could not be more helpful and friendly and having the complex added something special for the weekend. We'll all be back in future!

We booked to stay in the Farmhouse for a week with extended family as we were up for a wedding at Drummuir Castle. Unfortunately it decided to snow VERY HEAVILY a couple of days before we arrived thus cutting power to the cottage. Nonetheless Viv and Diane couldn't be more helpful and organised candles, wind-up torches and lit the fires to ensure we would be comfortable. They had even arranged with local friends the use of their showers the morning of the wedding. We were all relieved when the power came back on.
Parkmore is set in a stunning setting and the farmhouse was huge, with comfortable beds, a great kitchen where everyone tended to congregate and wireless internet. We would highly recommend a stay here, although would like to keep this hidden gem safe from the masses! ENJOY!

Our cottage, the Corn Loft was adorable and comfortable. This self-catering accomodation is a super value if you are looking for a base to explore castles, whiskey, or outdoor activities. The staff are very helpful, and the sheep Cuthbert and Rover are ready to greet you, as well.

The kitchen was well appointed,. with coffee, tea, and biscuits ready for you on arrival. A wood-burning stove in the living room provided a cozy touch and additional heat.

We enjoyed a very brief stay due to an unusual early spring blizzard-- you couldn't get there from anywhere! So, if traveling in anytime surrounding winter, know that adorable Dufftown is prone to higher snow than other villages in the immediate area! They had 3 feet (and had lost power) when the surrounding area had anywhere from none to a foot.

Though we were there briefly, I can recommend a few local attractions-- The Glenfiddich distillery gives a nice tour, and the Mash Tun in Abelour has good food-- a pub trying to be more than a pub and succeeding.

Check out time was a bit early (10:00), particularly since you have to tidy the cottage and leave it as you found it. Not too hard for us as we only made it one night, but if we'd been there longer, it would have been more of a challenge!

The prepayment policy is strict, so if you are travelling in the winter time, particularly from faraway, I recommend travel insurance!

Note wireless is available but not in your cottage- you need to go the office, which is quite close.

we were the 2009 lucky competition winners of a weeks stay in the neep shed, the cottage was beautiful very spacious clean comfortable and well equiped with a lovely view and all the mod cons. we had a totally relaxing stress free week which was much needed away from our demanding grown up children. the walks were amazing lots and lots of wildlife to see in tranquil surroundings, the local people were really friendly and made us feel so welcome, we visited glenfiddich distillery which in our opinion is well worth a visit, so too is the river spey only minutes away down the road.
thanks to all the kind staff heather, willy and especially hazel who gave us a wonderful friendly greeting and was a real knowledge of areas to see. we would recomend parkmore to anyone who's looking for a quiet peaceful retreat.
we loved it so much were going back next year .. hehe..this time we'll gladly pay every penny. thanks again for such a lovely stay

Have just spent a wonderful week with friends in Straw End. Lovely welcome from Heather...thank you Heather. Cottage perfect in every way. Good value for money. View magnificent. Beautiful peaceful environment. Absolutely nothing we disliked. So close to home so no long drive to our destination . However, it felt like we were far away from our homes in Elgin! Home yesterday and booked already for next year.

We spent a marvelous week at Parkmore Holiday Cottages to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary.

This was the first time we had been back to Parkmore without the kids and the first time we had stayed in Isla Lodge which I understand was only recently built. We had no fears that it would be top quality accommodation as this is what we have come to expect at this great place.

Isla Lodge is first class, very comfortable and has stunning views.
The barbecue hut comes with the lodge and was a pleasant surprise as it was very cosy and great fun.

We received a very friendly welcome which set the tone for our stay. The team who look after the cottages; Hazel, Heather and Willie are very helpful and nothing seems to be a problem to them. On the evening of our wedding anniversary, they even drove us several miles to the Craigellachie Hotel (where we had a lovely meal). How's that for service!

Scenery and weather were excellent and we both loved the peace and quiet. On the clear nights the stars were magnificent!

We would recommend the Cairngorms which are a one hour drive away and the beautiful Moray coast is only a half hour by car.

It was a bit early in the year to spot the dolphins on the Moray Coast however we have seen them during the summer close to the beach at Cullen and at Hopeman. The wildlife is terrific and I would recommend that you look out for the birds of prey, deer and red squirrels. We saw the red squirrels near a small village on the road to Huntly.

You can stock up on food and fuel at the new Tesco's in Keith which is about a 20 minute drive however there are other smaller shops in Dufftown which is only 5 minutes drive away.

Plenty of distilleries to visit and some are better than others. Some are also closed to the public at certain times of the year. So check this out beforehand.

Parkmore has the latest tourist information and if you have a laptop there is access to wifi.

We really enjoyed our stay and it was a great way to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Once you have experienced a holiday at Parkmore Holiday Cottages, you are hooked and no doubt you will make plans, like us, to return one day.

The "Bothy" is a delightfully tranquil, immaculate and private detached cottage — modern, well-maintained, comfortable, completely equipped.

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this delightful cottage and would return without hesitation. What we particularly liked was the tranquility and privacy it provided together with almost everything we needed to feel as if in our own home. Dufftown was only a few minutes drive away.

The renovators did a wonderful job of conversion, producing a very cozy, comfortable and enjoyable environment for two people. The location of this freestanding cottage (away from other buildings) and the aspect (facing fields and forest on two sides) emphasized the feelings of relaxation and of nature.

Some characteristics to note because of the structure of the cottage:

a narrow, winding stairway leads to the attic-mezzanine bedroom, so you will need to have the mobility and agility to manage the steps;

the sloping roofline somewhat limits headroom at the sides of the bed, so if you are tall you will need to mind your head;

the built-in wardrobe has limited space.

These features did not bother us and merely added to the novelty of the building.

The living-lounge room was quite spacious and had audio-visual equipment to provide a range of entertainment if you chose to remain indoors.

We appreciated the availability on the property of a separate office hut with WiFi access and of a laundry room equipped with washers and dryers.

In conclusion, highly recommended.
