Fantastic few days here as a family with 8yr old twins. We included the transfers from Kuala Lumpur and stayed at the pick up hotel Istana in Kuala Lumpur (which is sister hotel to mutiara) for convenience but it definitely not a 5star hotel (rooms were more 2/3star). The transfer to mutiara was part by bus, part boat and just bus on return. The bus was uncomfortable as the roads are so bad it is very bumpy. But the boat trip was amazing, we have full size suitcases with us which went in the boat fine. On arrival there are lots of steps up but they take your bags which go up a luggage carrier. Check in was easy, our room was basic but fine. The bathrooms looked fairly new but the rooms were dark. We took mosquito nets to hang over the beds. We were given our itinerary and times we had to be ready, it worked so well that we got to do everything there and still had two mornings free, one we spent it fishing (or trying to) and the other we hired a boat to take us back to the swimming area which was fab. The boat rides were great fun. The tree top canopy walk was also fab, we tried to do this again on our spare morning but as it was raining it was not open, this is not expensive and easy to walk to yourself if you do not have a package. The night jungle walk was done on the first night which was great as it allowed you to do it again yourself after that, which my husband did every night. Remember to take a torch, we had mosquito head nets too. We would not have seen anything without the guide showing us what to look for on the first night. Scorpions were amazing, not so keen on the huntsman spiders. The trek to Teresek hill, again without the guide we would not have seen the monkeys playing in the top of the trees. The rapid shooting was great fun but expect to get very wet. We were full board, the food was okay, nothing amazing buffet style, there was a menu which may have been better if you are not on a package. Overall it was an amazing experience, although we were disappointed with the lack of big animals, being in the jungle we expected to see some. The largest animal was the monkeys and lots of insects/snakes etc. It is very much a sanitised version of the jungle with walkways all around which makes walking around easy. But watch out for the leeches. We went for a walk on our own when we first got there and myself and son both got eaten, didn’t realise til there was blood on my shoe. They climb on your shoe and up and will suck through socks. Yuk. Expect basic food and accommodation but an experience you will never forget.

Taman Negara National Park is the 130 million-years-old sprawling tropical rainforest in Malaysia. A visit to the UNESCO-designated World-Heritage Natural Site is an interesting proposition. Its rustic beauty is amazing.

Mutiara Taman Negara Resort, Pahangis claims that it is the only property available for renting a room within this forest. No doubt, this is a good vanguard for enjoying the amenities of Taman Negara. Recently, we stayed there for three days and savored the tropical forest.

After an overnight flight, we landed in Kuala Lumpur. The transfer to the resort took around six hours by road. We reached Jeti Taman Negara, on the banks of the river Tembeling. It is in Kuala Tahan, one of the four gateways to Taman Negara. A short boat ferry across the river took us to the resort. The reception was rather low-key. We were received with a drink. But we had to carry the luggage through the rugged lane in a drizzle. However, we became wiser and while checking out asked for help. Promptly, motorized transport materialized and transferred our luggage. Crying babies get the milk.

The stay is in detached wooden huts, which the resort likes to call chalets. They are spacious and cool, can accommodate up to three guests. The first look gives the impression that maintenance is poor. The look of the room is not attractive. Some of the light and plug points did not work. Help is available, but limited.

The dining is in the Seri Mutiara Restaurant. The buffet breakfast is the usual standard, but the choices are limited. The lunch and dinner offer even less selection. Limited range of alcoholic drinks is available for purchase.

The best part of the resort is the easy access to some of the choice attractions like the night jungle walk, world’s longest canopy walkway, visiting the aborigine village, trekking under rainforest canopy, mountain climbing and boating.

Despite the minor drawbacks, the stay provided a unique experience, rarely available anywhere. The greatest asset of the resort is not the quality of comfort or the dining, but the function as a gateway to the rainforest. In short, it is a resort with an attached forest.

A small shop is situated in the resort. But the offerings are limited, mainly food items.

The staff is very helpful. One of the reception staff gave me her personal ballpoint pen, when I wanted to purchase one. It was not available in the on-campus store.

This resort is of course beautifully located on the edge of the Taman Negara.
Oficially it's part of the park, which means you need to go and buy your entrance ticket at check in. It's only about 2MYR, nothing you need to worry about.

Check in was pleasant, recieved a fresh drink and wet towel.

Cabins are a bit run down, ready for some refurbishing. The jungle is very humid and things become old and moldy very quickly, not their fault, but sadly enough it is their problem.

The restaurant is decent, and staff is polite and efficient.

All in all the resort needs some tender, love and care and I'm sure people will enjoy this hotel for years to come.
