Borghetto Poggio Bianco
Reviewed July 22, 2012

A great location far from any distractions, very helpful staff and a well fitted out apartment. The only minor issue was the sofa bed wasn't brilliant, but the complete silence at nighttime made up for it.

Yes, Borghetto Poggio Bianco is definitely in the countryside and the roads leading to it are quite curvy and ultimately the one leading you to it is dirt (not uncommon in the Tuscan countryside). But, we made day trips to Siena, Florence (by train), Chianti region, San Gimignano, and even as far as Lucca/Pisa. Not a big deal. It was always nice to return at the end of the day. There are several really good restaurants nearby in Radicondoli and Belforte (10 minutes) for dinner. We had the folks at Borghetto Poggio Bianco arrange for a local chef to come in and prepare a meal for us one night. It was beyond description. What a great experience!! The caretakers are fantastic and very accommodating and eager to be of assistance. The apartments are well appointed and very comfortable. It's very quiet and well maintained. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or to return.

This is really a hidden Gem. Not so easy to get to but well worth the effort. It is brand new and has been very well reconstructed using traditional materials / techniques combined with very modern furniture and great kitchens. Swimming pool and Jacuzzi very well used by our family. Radicondoli is very laid back and the people are very friendly - there are not the droves of tourists you might find in other Tuscan hill towns. Unfortunately we had some illnesses and Bozena was a wonderful help for us - she came with us to the doctor in Radicondoli and translated for us (chicken pox diagnosed).
The only issue for us was the access road - some small repairs are needed to stop the car bottoming out on the ruts which were developing on the steeper sections. I hope the owners have flattened these out.

We will be back

If you are looking for isolated wilderness, Borghetto Poggio is the place to stay. While you enjoy the wilderness and tranquility, the villa also offers you the modern comfort you look for in an ideal holiday: free wi-fi (although it is a bit slow at time), big swimming pool facing the beautiful mountains (but you have to share it with other guests and noisy children), jacuzzi and barbecue. The place is exactly the same as appeared on the photos.

The house keepers, Bozena and Paolo, have done a great job keeping the place nice and clean. They are also very friendly and helpful. If you want to enjoy a night in with barbecue, Paolo will light the fire for you. The dog, Maya and the cat, Michi have been great company and keeping the unwanted wild animals away.

But if you are not ready for isolated wilderness, you might be irritated by the wasps and giant mosquitos and flies. Though Bozena will give you some tips how to avoid them. Although the place is conveniently located one-hour away to Siena, 45-minute away to San Gimignano and one-and-half hour away to Florence, you might be put off by the bumpy, windy road (or rather like "track"). You will definitely need a 4x4 to get in and out of the place. If you can't bear the heat, don't go in August because the place only has fan (No air-con). Otherwise you might find it difficult to sleep.

Borghetto Poggio Bianco is beautiful place! Photos on trulytuscany.cz do not lie. Swimming pool is very nice. I fell in love with jucuzzi:-)
It is very neat place with a lot of flowers, lavender scent, just so romantic and calm. Birds, cicadas and fireflies make this place like from fairytale.
Free internet is very helpful with planning trips.
People who take care of Borghetto Poggio Bianco - Bozena and Pawel are very friendly, opened and helpful. Their dog Maya and cat are very funny.
I wish I could stay there longer that just one week. I hope I be back also next year.

Our week at Borghetto Poggio Bianco was wonderful – one of the most relaxing holidays we have ever had.

The apartments are stylish, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. The swimming pool and Jacuzzi are a welcome sight after a long day’s sightseeing. Borzena and Paulo, the Borghetto’s caretakers, work long hours to make sure that everything is just right.

Radicondoli, the nearest village has an excellent butcher’s shop for delicious steaks ready for the barbeque, which Paulo will happily light for you. The village also has a small supermarket and alimentari. It seems that a new deli is soon to open in the village. We had an excellent Tuscan-style meal at Ristorante Il Granaio, also in the village. Don’t choose from the menu; just ask the chef what he recommends that day!

The surrounding countryside is breathtaking and Tuscan gems, such as Siena and San Gimignano are less than an hour’s drive away. Also worth visiting are Volterra and Massa Marittima.

We left Borghetto Poggio Bianco feeling cosseted and cared for, relaxed and refreshed and had already planned a return visit by the time we’d reached the end of the driveway!

Thank you to all at Truly Tuscany for a truly wonderful holiday.

Better than expected

We stayed there for 1 week and it was perfect..

Very nice buliding, clean pool and jacuzzi, free wi-fi, sweet dog.. Couple taking care of the property makes you feel home... Waiting four us on saturady morning (I wonder when they have their day off), everything prepared for us and our baby including cot bad and stool (blue one replaced by pink after realizing we have a girl :-)

Tuscany is not only Firenze, Pisa and Montepulciano.. Go to see Radicondoli, Belforte, Massa Maríttima, Follonica for nice beach...
