“Dog friendly!”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

It was proving almost impossible to find a hotel/B&B in and around Duns that could accommodate ourselves plus our dog. Even though some said they were 'dog friendly' they were not.

There was no problem at the Wheatsheaf. A very warm welcome for all of us awaited. Our room was very comfortable - the ensuite had a nice big bath. Our dog was allowed to stay in the room with us (not always possible).

The food in the restaurant was excellent - local produce cooked to perfection. We stayed on a special deal - dinner bed and breakfast - a real bargain.

Room Tip: Rooms that dogs are allowed in are 5 and 6. We stayed in 5. Nice view to the rear of the hotel overl...

My wife and I had a great night away at The Wheatsheaf. Warm welcome and shown to our deluxe room. Very comfortable and my wife enthused over the Molten Brown toiletries. Dinner was exquisite with delicious locally sourced food served by attentive staff. Breakfast yet again was a triumph and set us up well for our drive home. We will be back.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel have a good view of the village green.

Hotel that offers good food and a warm welcome. We had an enjoyable stay visiting Edinburgh and the Borders. Very comfortable rooms.
The breakfasts and evening meals were to be looked forward to. The fish, halibut and the venison were both excellent.
Also a good selection of wines and bottled beers.

Took advantage of special offer for DBB rate. The visit was up to the same standard as on our previous visits spanning several years.Good food, friendly and accommodating staff, which has remained unchanged during the period of our several visits.Although the rooms are average the overall experience is very good,it certainly makes one want to return.

Spent Valentine's night at the Wheatsheaf. Beautiful room, excellent food and staff who were very helpful and pleasant. Very good value for money and all in all a most enjoyable experience.
Swinton is a quiet village but other attractions nearby make it a good base.

Room Tip: I would think all rooms are of a very high standard. Village is very quiet at night so all rooms are...

What a lovely hotel. Was in area on business for a few days and stayed here.Great Food, Great Service, Great Room, Great Staff. What more can I say? Spotlessly clean room; as soon as you walk in, can smell fresh clean linen. Comfy bed. Cosy and warm with controllable heating. Now for the food in the 5* Restaurant - delightful locally sourced food, cooked to absolute perfection, the Pork medallion meal is especially recommended, best I've tasted....ever/
Location is definitely quiet, not for you if you're looking for big nights out, but perfect for exploring the Borders county side. Berwick is only 12 miles away, along some delightfully winding roads.
I would highly recommend this hotel, and will most probably be back.

Room Tip: I had a room at the back looking out over open countryside which was lovely

Finding good eating places in Berwickshire is a bit of a challenge.

We visited the Wheatsheaf on 10th Feb for the carvery Sunday lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. You could choose from either, or indeed a combination of, roast beef, roast pork, chicken breast and salmon. We both opted for pork and chicken, both of which were lovely. There was a good choice of vegetables and we certainly enjoyed the meal.

We will certainly make the journey back.

Room Tip: Ask for a table away from the entrance door as it does a get a bit drafty sitting there.
