“A hidden gem with true Costa Rican hospitality & beautiful natural setting”
Reviewed June 28, 2012

This was an unexpected highlight of our trip. A family-run farm and naturalist's dream-setting that gives you a taste of family and community living in Costa Rica. Only two private cabins, yet run like a B & B. Donald, a local and professional guide, and his wife, a lovely Aussie and educator, are passionate about becoming self-sufficient and growing/contributing to their community. They will openly share their intense understanding of the flora and fauna and culture of the area with interested guests.

This place is amazing, very beautiful withT friendly, helpful staff and clean, beautiful rooms. Highly recommended! The region is spectacular, and the owners can provide you with much info about the area and about rural Costa Rica.

We camped out (they provided the tent, sleeping mats, sheets and pillows, and even had it all set up when we arrived) for three nights and felt more comfortable here than we did at some of the hostels we booked during our trip. The camping area is nice and simple (and back from the road and cabinos and kitchen), with a soft floor, sides open (a wind/rain screen on one side) a roof for rain protection, and clothes lines for hanging laundry. What more do you need? Both Pip and Donald were friendly and helpful, which is a real blessing to travellers, and we appreciated their dedication to their environment and community. Although it is a bit far out to those who can't afford taxi's this way and that (or those who don't pay proper attention to the map and think: "we can walk it; it's not *that* far"), we loved the fact that it was out of the way and not cluttered with hotels and gift shops. We wholeheartedly recommend this place to any travellers to the area.

Our two night stay at Casitas Tenorio was an incredible beginning of a 10 day business/ vacation in Costa Rica. Pip & Donald were gracious hosts. The cabinos lovely-- clean, comfortable & convenient. We loved roaming the farm, viewing Toucans & howler monkeys ... The Rio Celeste hike & Nocturnal Frog walk they arranged were beyond our expectations. And I haven't even mentioned the delicious farm fresh breakfasts!! Just thinking about it makes me want to go back. Would highly recommend Casitas to anyone. They could charge twice as much & it would still be a bargain!

We stayed for two nights at Casitas and had a splendid time. The house we stayed in was beautiful and surrounded by plants and wildlife. The farm was lovely and I enjoyed walking around and exploring the property. Everything about the experience was perfect, but most of all I was impressed by Pip and Donald's genuine hospitality and friendship. We immediately felt at home and had a great time visiting Bijagua and the park with their recommendations. I would suggest this stop to anyone interested in visiting the area. Also great food- which is pretty important in my mind!

we stayed 2 nights in a cottage on their property, yet it felt more intimate, like a home stay. Pip and Donald are focused on providing excellent service & a quality stay, while being devoted to stewardship of their environment and community. A wonderful combination. Bijagua is a bit remote for the average traveler, which is one reason we picked it. It's an organic farm in the jungle and the casitas are rustic, basic but very comfortable, with a lovely porch with view. On the property we saw Howlers and Sloth as well as many birds. Yummy breakfast was huge, mostly all fresh ingredients right from their own farm. Donald's guided hikes were enchanting, the scenery and the Rio Celeste are amazing and his knowledge and passion are impressive. If you are a true lover of Costa Rica and all her glory, not just the usual tour stops, don't miss this hidden little gem and lovely couple.

Brilliant 2 night stay with our 13 month old at Pip and Donald’s Casitas. I knew from reading their website and reviews that we would be well taken care of, and we were delighted to find an incredible couple who felt like old friends.

Our hosts were enormously helpful – very accommodating of our little one, providing books and balls for our room and sharing Kira’s play area as well (our son had the true bed and breakfast experience snoozing in Kira’s highchair ☺!

The Casitas have a simple elegance with fresh flowers, beautiful colors and a perfect shower window! They have put together an excellent and informative book – a true A to Z of all the FAQs you didn’t even know you had about the B&B, local area and Costa Rica.

The beds were very comfy and the nights were serenely quiet and breakfasts were a delicious blend of their own eggs, local fruits and fresh blended juices all set on a patio paradise for birders!

Donald was our incredible guide for a hike in PN Tenorio. As a guide and enviro ed teacher I have an enormous appreciation for well facilitated nature excursions and ours was amazing! Such a wealth of knowledge and obvious passion for Tenorio. We loved all of his scientific knowledge and annecdotes from a lifetime exploring and guiding in the area, as well as his patience and help with our son (who he insisted on carrying to prep him for their next baby bundle).

Pip and Donald even helped us plan the next leg of our journey with fantastic recommendations on tinier out of the way places that allow authentic interactions with folks who aren’t traveler tired – exactly our style of travel! An incredible stay! We hope to return and highly recommend!!
