Camping Chateau de Galinee

We stayed here for the last three nights of our holidays and were pleasantly surprised. There was a real French atmosphere to this site, despite there being an obvious mix of European nationalities present. Close to the lovely St Cast town and not far at all from St Malo, this made a great last stop on our way back from further south in France. The pools were lovely, the slides great, and our kids loved the take-away crepes too!

Dear ImeldaD3,

Apparently, and as many people, you liked the take away crepes ! That is one of many things taht have to be discovered in Brittany and in Galinee campsite.

We hope that you will come back to St Cast one of these days !

We have recently been to this campsite for a week. We booked this at christmas & got a good package deal with brittany ferries. Because of this we felt we were a bit of an after thought. Our caravan was basic, we have stayed in alot better. No bedding provided we took our own, pillows odd shape square? the beds were uncomfortable & small. We were told on arrival that we would need to put all kitchen crockery n cutlery on the lounge table when leaving & also clean the caravan. The last thing we wanted to do was this when getting up early to get the ferry with 2 young children!! (No holiday). The grassed atea yo the front of the caravan was very overgrown kids played on it but mot the most appealing to sit out on. Everu other plot appeared to be mowed regularly? holiday companies there were Keycamp & thomson who had lots of reps etc, we dint have no one. We appeared to of chose the wrong accomodation.

The site overall we were impressed pools great, clean, playareas good kids luved it. Shop & takeaway handy & good. Area good for beaches st cast & pen guin. We would go back but not with same company as the accomodation could of been alot more comfortable.

Hello Jlotter.

Thank you for these comments about our campsite. We wil take these into consideration.
The beddings were provided but I'm sorry to say that in France, our pillows are square shaped. Just to let you know, we sell throw-away sheets that could have matched the pillows.
I understand that the fact of putting all of the kitchen stuff on the table early in the morning upsets you but this allows us not to charge you with missing pieces.
Concerning the grass, our gardeners mow the lawn everywhere on the campsite and they probably have forgotten yours or were about to do it just after you left. I'm sorry for that.

I'm glad you loved the pools and that your children loved the play areas and we hope to see you again in Galinée !

We booked a last minute holiday to this site and were pleased as it was not too expensive - however we worried a little that because it was relatively cheap it would not be very good. Well, we need not have worried - we arrived late morning and were allowed in our caravan straightaway which was clean and comfortable and had a good amount of kitchenware (note- no kettle supplied so bring your own if you don't want to be boiling pans of water all the time!). Site was quiet and very clean - the pools were lovely (note - sign says only over 8's can use the slides - however this is obviously a safety precaution so that younger children don't use them on their own - I took my 5 year old on them without a problem). Yes we had to pay extra for wristbands but I understand this is mainly for security - and I assume the cost goes towards paying the patrolman (although I have to say I never saw him/her!). Only gripe is play areas were a bit worn - the crazy golf area looked derelict and bits were coming off the wooden play areas - I hope that over the 2012 winter this has been looked at. All in all a great site- so much so that we have already booked to come back this August - the children insisted we did so there can be no better recommendation!

We stayed on site during the first week of June 2013, and were very impressed.
Although our break was booked through 'Eurocamp' there are a few other holiday companies using this site, and a number of independent travellers were present.
The site was quiet and peaceful with generous pitches for all types of accommodation. The facilities included indoor and outdoor swimming pools, flumes and a number of other play facilities for children, including an area with goats, chickens etc. and a fishing lake. It is clear that a significant investment has been made in this park during the last year or two, and it was noted that there were always staff maintaining the park during our visit. (new planting, cutting grass etc.). Although we were not in the main holiday season, the restaurant and bar were open from 6.30pm to 10.30pm. Although the menu was limited, the quality of the food was very good and the service was attentive and professional. Prices were reasonable - always a little more expensive in locations such as this. There is a small shop that is open each morning. Really for essentials, but also fresh baguettes, croissants etc. are available. The staff in the restaurant, bar and shop were all very friendly and made everyone welcome. The site is set in a rural location, and is very close to a number of local coastal holiday centres such as St.Cast, St. Malo & Dinard, all with fantastic sandy beaches!
Yes, we did have to pay a relatively small fee for identity wristbands, but this was seen as a sensible security measure, and clearly ensures that no unauthorised visitors are able to enter the site. This is probably not the ideal location for older teenagers but for younger families and older couples etc. ideal! Highly recommended for quality time!

Hello Ron D.

Thank you so much for your lovely contribution. It's nice to see that you had a great time on our campsite. As I am writing, the smell of fresh croissants is coming to the reception desk and I must admit that it is quite hard to resist ! You explained really well what the wristbands are for. We also use them at the bar restaurant and at the grocery store so that the teenagers under 18 cannot buy alcohol.
We hope to see you again in Galinée !

We stayed here for 3 nights after a 7 night stay at a huge site in Spain and the contrast was lovely. It's a very quiet and relaxed site, with a very 'country' feel to it, the shops, restaurant and reception are in lovely stone buildings and there is a small fishing lake and petting zoo.

We arrived late Sunday evening and were able to have a meal in the restaurant, it wasn't too expensive and the food was good and plentiful, there is a bar here also.

The shop is small and only really stocks essentials, the opening hours are short, however there are large supermarkets only a 5-10 minute drive in either direction from the site.
The pool is small but adequate and my kids loved the water slides. There is also a small indoor pool for when the weather cools down.

This site is exceptionally quiet at night.

Would recommend this site as a real escape from the daily grind.

Just returned from an 8 night stay at this site with Thomsom Alfresco. On arrival asked to pay a non refundable 15 euros 25 cents for plastic bands to use the pool. What a rip off! especially as no life guard was present at the pool during our stay.
A beautiful area in which we had a good holiday, but the site does not use its facilities brilliantly. The restaurant had limited opening hours even in August and food was not available even when the restaurant was supposed to be open. We stayed in a Thomson Rossini mobile home which was clean and cmfortable. The site is generally good for primary age children, with our children making lots of friends.
St Cast nearby is a pleasant seaside town with good cafes, Dinan, Dinard, St.Malo and Mont St Michel also worth a visit.
This could be a good site, but it just needs to tighten up its customer experience.

Room Tip: Eurocamp and Thomson mobiles both looked good.

Hello Northernfan.

First, I would like to thank you for giving your opinion about our campsite! I'm glad you had a great time in the Alfresco accomodation!

We saw that you were surprised with the plastic bands. We ask our customers to wear these bands. But what Alfresco ommited to say is that this allows us to check who's from the campsite and who's not. This system is not only used for the swimming pool but also on the entire campsite.

As far as the restaurant is concerned, food is served until 10:30 but you can stay and have a drink until midnight. And if you are hungry during the day, you can take away food from the grocery store.

We would be glad to welcome you again on our campsite! There are loads of other wonderfult places that you have to discover nearby Saint Cast!

See you soon!

Just returned from a 10 day stay at this site. Lots to do on site and in local area. Fantastic beaches, brilliant pools on site, my kids really enjoyed everything on offer - slides, table tennis, bouncy castles etc. I'd avoid buying table tennis bats on site in future as prices steep. Restaurant was brilliant, simple but tasty food, informal but nice atmosphere, perfect for families. Shop had everything you might need in times of desperation, but big supermarket down the road, as well as some stonking farm cider, brewed down the road!
Arrived early but were fobbed off and told to return in afternoon, returned at 12 but they shut the office down and only reopened at 2. We were only camping so didn't really understand their excuse of them having to clean the site. Showers and loos very very good, couldn't be better!

I would not return to this site, however as there was a distinct lack of staff on site. We booked through the French company so went through main reception, friendly enough, but when asked about horse riding we were told to drive for 10 mins to nearest town to use the Tourist Information Office. There were Eurocamp and other holiday reps on site with English information, I suspect they would've been more helpful. My main issue was the lack of staff, there to enforce rules and safety issue. I'm not a 'jobsworth', but there was no-one to enforce noise curfew and I was very unhappy about the lack of consideration from other campers returning from the restaurant or just sat out talking at the tops of their voices. We had one unfortunate night when music blasted from 11 until 3.30 in the morning. It wasn't on site but a few Km away, it was extremely loud, like sitting inside a wedding reception. Even if this couldn't be helped there was just no-one to go to for help or reassurance. A massive shame as we did have a really good holiday and if a bit of noise doesn't bother you then you will have a brilliant time.

Hello!

Thank you for writing a comment about your holidays on our campsite! I bet your children had a great time as there are plenty of activities organised for them!

The reception is open from 9 to 12 and from 14 to 19 and the people who leave the pitches have to be gone by the end of the morning (at 12). As it is written on our rental contracts, for people who arrive, pitches are available from 2 PM. August is usually a busy time and your pitch was probabaly not available when you arrived.

As far as the noise is concerned, the concerts and parties we organise end up at midnight. The barriers that give access to the campsite are closed from 10 pm to 7 am and there is someone who is going around the campsite at night. Because of the size of the site (34 acres), this person cannot have an eye on everything at every moment.

We hope that our answer has been useful and that you will reconsider visiting us again ! We would be pleased to welcome you in Brittany!
