“Good views of Mt. Kinabalu but very tired hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

We would definitely not recommend reserving a chalet as there is NO water pressure for washing or flushing the toilet. The guest rooms in the main building need a lot of updating and we were moved to a 2nd room because there were ants crawling all over everything in the room! In our opinion this is a 2 star at best and there are a lot of better places at a better value than this hotel. We had also stayed at the Celyn Resort and it was cheaper, great breakfast and just as nice of views and the rooms were a tad nicer.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the chalets. We ended up in 302 which was a "passable" room.

If you're into old, dirty, noisy rooms at insulting prices, look no further ! The "heritage resort" oh & "spa" has got it all.

I think this is the worst hotel I've stayed in for the last 10 years and I want to make sure you're not tricked into becoming a 'guest' of its 'services' as well.

Where to start !?

Lets start with the ONLY good thing about this hotel. It's the view onto Mt Kinabalu. They're great if indeed your room in on the right side of the building.

We just came from KK where we stayed in the Meridien. Whilst its not as sharp as your average Meridien, the price (300R) is absolutely right for what's on offer. That price is the same as the rooms at the heritage. Unfortunately the only thing heritage here is the 20 year old mold everywhere.

The hotel out/inside looks like it has not had a $ in investment for at least 5 years.

The rooms are not only tired but things are broken, toilets don't flush, water in shower isn't warm, tub is decaying, carpets have massive burns and spots everywhere, doors are rotting away from the bottom.

Because its a 1.5km downhill walk to the village it's a bit of a trap. That means your destined to use the hotel restaurant. That place charges Australia prices for some things but most unnerving that we were the only ones there. I think we survived the meal but both of us had tummy rumblings.

The real gem is the 'Spa'. Situated in a annex building that evokes images of the Shining, the dungeon that is 'the Spa' is a joke.

For 100R you too can be treated to a one hour full body massage. Unfortunately you probably also forgot your oxygen mask and you will not relax due to pure mould smells creeping up your nostrils (maybe better than the heavy cigarette smells at the door)

Please do not visit this place so that it's forced to improve and it will really leverage the awesome location at the base of mt Kinabalu.

I had stayed in the hotel, previously known as Perkasa Hotel, a few times several years ago. I am still fond of the breathtaking views of the peak of Mt Kinabalu at sunrise. Unfortunately the views from the rooms facing the mountain are blocked by the tall trees. However the hotel has provided a viewing platform, the Mount Kinabalu View a short distance below the main building. Make sure one be awake before 6.30 am to witness the peak at its best, except when it rains. This hotel had chalets on the opposite side of the road which give good views too especially chalets No. 11 to 14. For those who expect luxury, they will be disappointed. The facilities are old and require repairs especially the chalets. Services are efficient. Parking lots in front of the main building are limited but more lots ate available outside the gate. It's location along the Tamparuli-Ranau trunk road makes it an ideal accomodation from which one can visit Poring Hot Spring and Ranau town just about a half hour's drive. Below the hotel is the new township of Kundasang with shoplots where there are a few coffee shops and of course the roadside stalls selling fresh highland vegetables and fruits.

funky smell, shower that doesnt quite work. dim lighting in the bathroom, the list goes on. One of the crappiest hotels I've ever stayed in. Surprised there wasn't any insects crawling around the room though! The room was massive however, but aged and just overall in dispair.

We've already made a booking reservation a week before we went to this hotel. We've requested for this chalet no 11, 12, 13 and 14. But when we arrived and checked in, they said that none of the chalet requested is available, and they would assign us on other chalet. My dad was furious because he requested for this chalet because it's the most strategic chalet to overlook the Mount Kinabalu. He said, how can they not entertain customers request? If they can't provide us with the requested chalet, they should have notified us when we booked this hotel. Thankfully i got government rate, that is RM180 per chalet / night. So the price is quite reasonable.

As for the chalet condition.. acceptable. The furniture is a bit worn already, because it looks the same one as when we visit it 2 years ago but only older and worn out. The bathroom is equipped with hot shower but the water pressure is low. I think they better install a nicer built in hot shower rather than this home-type-shower-machine. The bedding is nicely done but if you pull down the sheet cover and the pillow cover, you might think twice to lay your body on it... its so dirty and needs to be changed already.. Management, if you are reading this, please, do some maintenance on your furniture, bedding, bathroom..and all that needs to be changed because the name really brings a certain standard to this hotel..and the last thing you need is customer complaints on these things.

We stayed on chalet no 4,5,6 for 2 nights. The bathroom door on chalet no 5 is already broken so you must pull and push the door with all your might! Chalet 6, is soooo smelly! Maybe because the previous customer smoke in the room (please people...close door room is NOT for smoking inside!!!) but the housekeeping must have the responsibility to reduce the smell. Maybe put some odor eliminator just before the next customer go in. We have to spray our own air freshener just to remove the smell!

But on the positive side.. the view here is magnificent! the air is cold and refreshing.. 2 nights stay here is not enough.. I love the breeze of cool air.. the trees.. the sounds of night.. very peaceful and relaxing..

Room Tip: Chalet 5 & 6 is near to the sitting area where you can drink coffee and relax with your family...

Initially we booked the chalet and we were so horrified by the condition of room we asked to be moved to the hotel. The chalet pictures are deceiving not only the rooms are small they stink so bad you want to vomit. The service is terrible they didn't even offer to carry our bags and couldn't supply us with an adaptor.

The hotel is in desperate need of a renovation and a change of management.
They told us the hotel was fully booked and could only replace the chalet with a standard room and would not refund our money. I find it hard to believe the hotel was fully booked while the carpark is empty. Scam scam scam stay away

Stayed in main building as closer to wifi access @ lobby. Room on 5th floor would have a gorgeous view of the magnificent Mt Kinabalu however was blocked by tall pine trees.Need to go down to viewing platform to appreciate the view. Room amenities basic and looks worn.Be prepared for noisy vibrating windows when the wind blows especially at night.Depending on water pressure, toilet flush can be an issue.Chalets look great for pictures but can be tricky for elderlies as a lot of stair climbing involved. Meals served in generous portions and average on taste. There is a surau for Muslim travellers located on M floor.Okay for stopover but not for long stay.

Room Tip: High floor in main building for better view.Chalets for privacy.
