We stayed in a longhouse as part of a tour of Borneo. It was by far the most interesting accommodation we stayed in and although the rooms were open at the top this allowed for some excellent night time nature viewings!
All the children loved doing batik painting and blow pipes. (so did the adults !!) and the tea was excellent. They managed better than most places catering for us awkward vegetarians.
And best of all my daughter left her cuddly hippo in the longhouse and the manager took the trouble to return it along with a lovely letter about what the hippo had been doing while away! Sent tea too!
If you want interesting accommodation in a wonderful setting then I would recommend Sabah Tea GardensMore
