“A Down to earth Pub”

Straightforward 'Pub grub' is served here - no frills and good prices. I have eaten here over several years when staying in the area and always enjoyed a good meal on the sofa's by the fire.
Have never stayed in the hotel, so can't say what that is like.

I had stayed before and went back recently. I only hope they get the lovely barmaid with the long hair back who has recently had a baby as since she has left, I'm afraid to say that the service, hospitality and friendliness has plummeted. I did notice a hike in food prices but a drop in quality and value for money too. I'll be staying elsewhere from now on. Only plus side is its dog friendly. Not so friendly with people now though it would seem.

There was a lovely open fire in the pub which was warm and welcoming on a cold November day. The staff were friendly and helpful. The pub food was OK. The bedroom was a little tired and dated but acceptable. Breakfast was very good. Choice of cereals and a full cooked breakfast. It was value for money.

We liked the pub here, it's friendly and we had a nice dinner then played pool afterwards.
But we wish we'd booked to stay somewhere else!

The level of cleanliness wasn't high but it was passable.
The room was quiet, warm and spacious, but that's all we can say for it.

The beds are old and saggy and they have the oldest, most worn and faded bed linen I've ever seen in a hotel! Seriously, they must not have updated a single bed cover, sheet, pillow or pillowcase since the 80s - that's not an exaggeration. It doesn't cost much to upgrade this stuff! I found it really off-putting and did not have a great sleep.

Breakfast in the morning was good, and generous.
Basically, just go to the pub here not the hotel - unless you hear they've finally updated the beds and bed linen!!

When I say "what you see is what you get" it's intended as a huge compliment. My family and I stayed at the Glen Avon at New Year and were bowled over by how friendly and helpful the owner and staff were, the quality of the food and the ambience of the bar - a blend of dining area come darts and pool area, sports pub and huge leather sofas in front of a roaring fire!

We stayed in the annex which was new build house but felt like a home......no idea what the rooms are like in the main hotel but visitors need to remember that you pay for what you get in many of these highland hotels - so go with it; head for the bar, chat to the very friendly locals and leave your hang ups at the door.

A brilliant location for family skiing when there's snow.
