“BEST VACATION EVER!”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

My name is Stuart and i have just returned home from an amazing 2 week vacation at Melia Cayo Guillermo in Cayo Coco Cuba. This hotel is absolutely georgous and always clean....the rooms are beautiful and the services are user friendly and always available even in the low season.

However it is the staff at this resort that really makes the best hotel......Wow they are so energetic and more like your best friend than staff. The front desk staff are constantly happy especially Yanetsy in the Quality office.

Both Yenia and Wilber, the entertainment managers are upbeat to say the least and ready to please a huge crowd or smaller groups for personal attention! jimmy and Greter also do a great job helping out with e entertainment

Bar staff are fantastic also and constantly ready for you, Roberto in the Lobby bar, Ana Isa and Galiokas at the pool bar are especially amazing (we spent a lot of time there!) And lastly Misael on the beach bar is just an amazing and cool bartender. Even Rocky the lifeguard is a cool guy!

Much of the great enrertainment comes from the unbelievable dancers at this hotel.....very talented and very amazing people .....Yamilka & Tony, Gleybis, Dari, Yoel, Liane and Gexis to name a few.

I just had such a wicked cool time at this resort i will be returning the end of december to spend Christmas and New Years!

See you soon everyone!

Where to start? The room we had was lovely the air conditioning was wonderful and housekeeping kept it in tip top shape! The Beach is the most beautiful beach I have ever seen, white sand crystal clear water and an amazing pier to stroll at any time of the day.

Going in we were told the food in Cuba isn't anything to write home about. Our group of 4 strongly disagree. The food was wonderful and the wait stuff were even better. We always tried to sit in Edel's section for breakfast and lunch, he took very good care of us. Jesus in the Italian restaurant was one af our favourites too. Another definitely worth mention in Gali, that girl is everywhere and always looking to make your day better. We went to the lobster shack where for an extra 15 CUC per person we had the most amazing lobster lunch prepared by George, Gali's husband- definitely worth a visit. All in all the food was great!

The activity staff are amazing, they work all day and try to spend time with as many guests as possible. The MC for the evening entertainment goes by J-lo, she is fantastic! We had many great chats with her and we also really enjoyed Jimmy's antics : ) The activity staff is one thing that really stands out to me just in the way that they really do interact a with the guests all day and into the evenings. The shows were great, we went every evening, our favourite was the Retro night, it was hilarious!

The bartenders were awesome, we loved Sergai, Tommy and Luis Enrique and Yosmany. Always joking with us and making sure we were having the best time possible.

We were a little concerned about the only dinner options being a la cartes, I can honestly say we didn't wait once. It was very easy to make reservations at any time of the day.

We will be returning for sure and hope to see a lot of familiar faces! Great staff, beach, hotel and food

Room Tip: I would try to stay away from ground floor facing into the garden. A lot of foot traffic going by yo...

Hi Guys, we recently returned from our annual pilgrimage to Cuba. Sept 6th to 21st 2012.
I promised the guys at the hotel to get this on sooner, so apologies for the delay.
As many of you know we were unable to book through Thomas cook this year and we were mortified, it was also very difficult to get a clear understanding of what had happened.
We eventually booked next door at the Sol, I contacted the hotel prior to our visit and we were given 2 really beautiful adjoining bungalows, nice and quiet and sea view. We had never been to the Sol before and were pleasantly surprised, first night was a fantastic outdoor barbeque, sea food was amazing (one of the main reason we love Cuba)
The next day we went for a walk up to the Melia to try and see what was going on, it was deserted, nobody on the beach, pier or visible anywhere except the beach security.
We had read reports that people were being refused access to the pier from other hotels so didn't feel comforable and went back to the Sol.
We spoke to the fantastic TC rep Ivan, he said that the Melia was open, but had very few guests, we asked if we were allowed to go into the Melia and see if any of our friends were still there.
Ivan arranged a meeting for us with Mary in customer services the next day.
We got a taxi around to the main entrance as not to upset the security, we were greeted at reception, (some funny looks due to our Sol Bracelets.) and taken round to Mary, she was so pleased to see us and we were introduced to Mikael the new Standards manager.
We asked if we could use the pier as my mate Kev and I are keen fishermen and the wives like a dabble as well (they actually catch more than us but we were after the big ones weren't we Kev?).
As no-one had actually asked this before Mikael said he would contact the new general manager Jesus at his home, we would be contacted the next day.
Mikael answered all of our questions re the hotel and invited us for a drink at the lobby bar.
We gratefully took him up on this, as as usual the weather was awesome but very hot for us summerless brits.
We went over to the lobby bar and my good friend Edgar was stood there looking cool as ever, (he even remembered what we drink! I love that guy.
From that point on every person that came into the bar made a big fuss of us it was lovely to see all our friends again! There were so few guest around mostly Argentines that day. We went outside and our friends Mark and Maggie were sitting there smug as you like with the hotel pretty much to themselves, (turns out they had moved over from the Iberostar and paid the difference) after several Havana specials we staggered back to our hotel, homesick for the Melia and intent on seeing our Rep Ivan asap.
First thing next morning we saw him, explained that we wanted to do, and it was arranged the same day, we understand that the staff at the Melia did an awfull lot of work to sort this, as the Sol had to pay the Melia the money we had paid and we payed the balance. We are so grateful for them doing this.
I wanted to say that we had nothing bad to say against the Sol, its just that the Melia feels like our home and we missed it so much.
We were given another 2 lovely bungalows near the dive centre and we were home.
The hotel guests were mostly Argentine and a few Canadians the first week, and by the second week more Canadians arrived and the numbers were up to about 90.
The atmosphere at the Melia was lovely, everybody was so friendly, the problems with numbers meant that the main restaurant was only open for breakfast, but we could understand this and eat like kings at all the other restaurants. We loved the hotel being a bit quiet and to be honest felt priveliged to be there.
All the staff were so worried at the lack of Brits, but it was great to see that the numbers were increasing during our stay, more of the staff started to arrive back every day and we had such a fantastic holiday again. Kev even caught a Barracuda of the pier, tick one more of list!
I promised Mikael that I would tell everyone that the Melia is open, there are ways to get there, evidently contact the Holiday Place travel agents for details.
I can't believe the problems TC caused by dropping the Melia, many of our friends were out of work for months and hundreds of British holiday makers had been denied the best holiday they will ever have, come on Thomas Cook sort this out.!
Thanks to everybody we met this year we'll never forget you, a special thanks to a lovely French Canadian lady called Denise who looks so much like our friend back in the uk ( you scared us to death first time we saw you).
Thanks to all the staff at the Melia, particularly Mikael, he is a really nice guy and so helpfull.
Love to you all at the Melia, we'll see you next year.
Cheers Mick & Carol, Kev and Carol.

Room Tip: Just ask for what you want, its not a problem, my favorite in 5 years was the bungalows, we stayed i...

Just got back on Saturday September 29, from another amazing trip to the MCG. Was a bit worried because of the sudden closure and caos, but can say without a doubt that everything is back to normal. Although the buffet was closed it was really nice to be able to have an intimate dinner each and every night. Never a problem booking Al Carte's and times were very flexible. The new manager Jesus, seems to be fitting in nicely and staff had good things to say about him and the changes he is making.
So a great place can only get better. Already looking forward to my next visit.

Room Tip: Room 1007 is an amazing room and if you email the resort they will do everything in their power to a...

I was just recently in Melia Cayo Guillermo, and it was a really good trip. The staff is very friendly, we had the honors of meeting wonderful people there such as Yosmany (our waiter) who was funny and made our trip a good stay. There is one huge pool that is separated in the middle, on one side there is a nice bar under the waterfall. The BEACH was GORGEOUS with white sand, and a beautiful ocean, this resort has a wooden deck that goes far out into the water and there are thousands of fish at the end where many people went snorkling and swimming. The food in Cuba is not very good as we are used to in Canada, so the food on this resort was very good, i have been to many places in Cuba and this is one of the best places for food. There were not many people, so if your looking for a relaxing trip with still fun activities, disco, shows and trips, this is the place to go.

We just returned Sept 22 from another great holiday at MCG.
As many of you know the hotel was scheduled to close from May to November but reopened after only a few weeks which throw a lot of confusion into the booking system consequently there was a reduction in the clients when we were there.
The buffet restaurant was only open for breakfast and the Rancho and pool bar for lunch but as the client numbers increase that will change.
Having said the above it was all very positive for our stay, no waiting in line or looking for sun beds.
Every thing else is still in place and getting better, Jesus the new manager is making changes for the better to make your stay even more memorable.
The beach is one of the best I have been to, gorgeous when the tide is out.
The grounds are just beautiful and well kept by the team of grounds keepers.
The restaurants and bars are all very good with great service.
The entertainment is second to none; they all put well over 100% into their craft.
All of the staff are very friendly and make the holiday the best you will find in Cuba.
The customer service are very efficient and will address any concerns you may have quickly, we had no hot water when we arrived and within the time it took to return to our room from customer service they had fixed it and then followed up with a phone call to make sure every thing was OK.
We will return soon.

Myself, Steve and Ryan would like to thank Melia Cayo Guillermo very much for all your their during our stay. After we finally managed to get moved from the disaster that was Sol Cayo Guillermo we finally managed to enjoy our holiday. The hotel was lovely and all the staff are fantastic. An absolute credit to the Melia. Everyone was great with Ryan (my 2yr old son). I think he will be missed. This hotel is very family orientated and all the staff were amazing with Ryan from watching him while we got his breakfast to entertaining him and playing catch with him when he wanted to go explore.

The reason i give 4 out of 5 was purely down to the selection of food. We did stay in low season and can understand the reasons why the buffet restaurant wasn't open but by the time the second week came we were pretty bored of the food. The Rancon and the International restaurants were the best but they also gave us the option of opting for what we would like cooked as special requests which we gratefully appreciated.

Our room was lovely and clean and spacious although the materesses were a bit tired and incomfortable but this was a minor thing compared to what we had been through. We tipped our maid a few times and had swans made out of our towels. Our last day we had 3 swans one topped with a pair of sunglasses which very much amused us. We had clean towels and bedsheets everyday and our fridge was re-stocked daily with drinks and water.

The beach is to die for. It's a very narrow beach but breath taking all the same. It was raked of seaweed daily and the sea was crystal clear and very warm.

The whole resort is kept clean and there is always someone doing something whether it be the cleaners keeping the snack bar clean or the gardeners pruning the palm trees. We had a few items made from palm leaves from a rose to little birds.

Again the staff were exceptional too many to name individually but to name a couple Yosmany from the breakfast bar, Guillermo from the Italian, Glasko with the drinks and coconuts, Tony from the entertainment team.

Thank you so much to Mikele and his customer service team. You really were a great help and couldn't have done enough for us.

We have made some good friends here and they will never be forgotten and hopefully one day we will make it back to see you all again
