“wonderfully relaxing”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

Just returned from sol, we were a little apprehensive, but no need .The staff are lovely and friendly and the drink on arrival with the dancers was a great first impression. The room was clean and airy and they provided shampoo and shower wash in the bathroom which was of reasonable quality and just enough for 2 weeks as the water is so soft you only need a little.
The food was not always consistent in quality, but i think it depended which chef was on. However we never went hungry. By far the best thing about the Sol is the beach location, it is a stunning beach, the water is lovely and warm and initially we were a bit freaked by the fish swimming round us, but the are quite pretty and and harmless and we were always disappointed if they did not turn up when we went in the sea.
Although i would not necessarily return to this hotel as Cuba is very big island and it would nice explore other areas,i would recommend it as a place to stay.

Stayed at the Sol August the food is very good... meat cooked fresh on the grill to order. Rooms are basic, but what do you expect in a third world country! Beds are very large and comfortable and air conditioning was fantastic.
I contacted the hotel prior to my visit as we had to order two rooms for ourselves and two older children but didn't want them away from us. On arrival the hotel had booked us two rooms with a joining door. (Thanks Yamile) The eather was mostly great but had a couple of afternoons with a down pour but that's hurrocane season! But they have free satellite tv from Canada in the rooms with some good films to keep the kids entertained on such an afternoon. The beach.... what can I say.... think the old bounty advert and your not far wrong! Paradise. Pools are good too and for once on holiday I got a lay in... NO RESERVING SUNBEDS.... yeha... always plenty available if you can't find one ask the pool man John and he will sort it sharpish...
All the staff really do their best to make your stay great... and I do mean they go out their way. One of the waiters (Nelson) took me fishing of the rocks up the coast with his gear for free on his afternoon off.... of course he got a tip... but never asked or hinted he wanted one.. above and beyond! Would love to go back...

had an ok overall 2 weeks here, returning yesterday ! the beach was my favourite aspect of the holiday, with the sea either calm and warm , or big high waves ! and with not many people around.....( having recently returned from Thailand- I enjoyed the sea here more)- hotel for me was just ok, quite basic with regards things on offer to do - no easy access to internet cards ( as no wifi ), and phonecards were abit hit and miss..food was fantastic for me, plenty of grilled fish and meat .. and the bars just ok, lots of English people to talk to
Aircon broke afew times- and toilets were more often than not blocked

Enjoyed the trips from the hotel- including snorkelling and speedboats, followed by mountain tours in the jeep cars- took a trip to Moron, which was good to see the locals going about their daily lives- and Pilar beach was a definite hit- beautiful place to visit- overall enjoyed my Cuban experience, but wouldn't feel compelled to visit again soon

Stayed here 24th may for 2 weeks for my wedding... hotel very dated, shower head had to be changed and air con was reported 3 times and fixed 3 times then they eventually changed something... Food could have been better - not much salad, however when they had a visit things were great for a few days... bar service was great very friendly ... animation team was brill
Romantic meal before the wedding was very poor! they didn't even know we actually was the wedding couple no special treatment there... however the big day was lovely ... Yudy was fantastic - due to the rain we couldn't get married at the gazebo so she made it extra special in the lobby- And a big thanks to the video man and the photographer who offered to return the following day to re-shoot. As soon as we said I do the sun came out and it was enjoyed by all! The evening meal was great- and the room was decorated lovely!
My Dad was ill for 2 days- he couldn't leave the room - make sure you take imodium!
A table was prepared every night for all 12 of us - there was never a problem

Don't know if I would return just yet...

The hotel was fine for what it was. You don't expect luxury in Cuba.
The rooms were spacious, but our shower only did cold (which was ok until you became used to the heat!) They were cleaned daily, but this doesn't get rid of the ants or the flying bugs infestations. (The ants are fine - they stay by the patio doors..the flying ants kept dropping on you in the night if you didn't squash them when you saw them).
The food was the same every day. What wasn't finished for one meal was available in the next (even having dinner meals at breakfast). I quickly got bored, but some regulars to Cuba commented that this was one of the best hotels for food!
You were able to visit the 2 a la cartes once during each week. They were nice and a welcome break from the buffet.
The staff were excellent. Very friendly and happy, although we did have to wait over 4 hours for our room to be ready when we arrived.
As for location...it is near the top of the peninsula, which meant it took several hours to get anywhere, and the trip prices were extortionate! I have been to many countries and this is by far the most over priced for excursions. Considering it's poverty, this is blatantly ripping tourists off by the companies. Unfortunately, due it's location, you couldn't find cheaper alternatives.
Overall, I wouldn't go to Cuba for a holiday again, unless it was to visit Havana.

Have just returned from sol cayo guillermo having been there from 8 August to 22 August. This was our third visit to Cuba, but our first visit to cayo coco.I cannot believe some of the unfavourable comments that people have written. There is nothing to complain about. From our arrival at the airport until our departure we were extremely satisfied. Our room was ready when we arrived- it was spacious and cleaned everyday - no issues with towels or changing of sheets.
Absolutely no issues with food or hygiene-there was always plenty of food at all meals and no hygiene issues. The staff in all eating areas looked after us with real warmth and passion.
The beach is fantastic and the sea is so warm - we only spent a few hours around the pool. The availability of drinks and cocktails was never a problem.
Ivan, our rep, was always very friendly and extremely attentive to our needs - he is a credit to his Company.
If you want a totally relaxing holiday in a fantastic environment, this is the place for you.The staff at the hotel offer outstanding and genuine customer service and are committed to making your stay here a fantastic experience.Would we go back? Definitely!

Room Tip: 821 very close to beach and far enough away from bar and entertainment area.
