“Our trip Jan. 2012, to Feb.5, 2012”
Reviewed April 13, 2012

Our trip in January was excellent, as usual. We have been back to this resort 14 times now. We have no problem with the "tired" rooms as we spend all our time on the beach. My review is just to let all Canadians know that if you are leaving loonies & twoonies as tips, the Cuban's cannot get them exchanged. The Cuban government does not accept our coins, therefore they are not of much value to the waitresses, bartenders, etc. What will happen is the workers will ask you to exchange them for pesos & depending on the Canadian dollar exchange, you could be out money.
We love the Iberostar & have no plans to discontinue our visits.
Hope this helps!!

Room Tip: See above re Canadian coins.

I would go back to the Daiquiri, but I usually try somewhere new. Was there for a week in March with two friends. Very impressed with the food choices in the buffet. There were lots of fresh veggies and fruit and the hot dishes/grills were good too. Resort is small so everything is close. Stayed in oceanview room in Camaguey block. As others have said, room was tired, but clean, but a bit crowded for three adults. Pool chairs filled up quickly. People left their towels on them for the day so if you did not get out early you might not get one. Lined up to book our a la cartes as soon as we could, but only got reservations at two of the three and they were for late in the evening so ended up cancelling. Restaurant staff was great but did not find the bar staff or front desk to be very friendly. No mosquitoes but it was VERY windy while we were there. Others told us that is typical for the area. Wished we had brought warmer clothes for sitting on the balcony in the evening! Overall had a great holiday!

We had an excellent deal on this hotel, the beaches looked wonderful.
We just come back and had an excellent stay at this place, very warm sunny weather and super sleep times at night. The endless beaches are just amazing for who loves to hike and swim, there's an excellent 3 hours hike on the left, just don't forget to bring water and shoes.
However a few things bothered us (we are not complicated persons) :

THE NOT SO GOOD :

1 : the food. All the food is very "ignorant people" orientated, to please the common tourist. Besides the fresh fruit (very tasty) and the rare local "specialties", the food is very tasteless. The choice "varies" between fries, pasta (ok) and disgusting recomposed unfrozen meat and hot dog sausages. It was a pain to watch some friendly cooks trying to describe their few local dishes to ignorant tourists, running away for fries, pancakes and more burgers...
The 3 restaurants are just "ok" : again, to please most north american orientated people, only 1 option of each menu was an authentic Cuban, mexican or italian dish.
The noon lunch near the beach is very poor, besides salads, they only offer unfrozen tastless fish filets, chewy burgers and fries. The remaining "fresh" salads turned bad at the end of the week.
For a 100$/ person daily stay, this hurts. We'd rather pay less and chose to eat in local restaurants. I guess that every all-inclusive hotel offers the same food coming from some corporate food distribution chain.

2 : The hotel (and every hotel in cayo coco or cayo Guillermo) is FAR AWAY from any local restaurant or town (Moron is the first one). This means, it will cost you a lot if you like to visit places on your own and take great photographs. You have only 2 options to do so : rent an expensive car ( about 120$ a day with gaz) or go by taxi (150$). It is only worth it if you split the bill sharing the taxi or car with other people. The only less costy option is to take the 55$ bus tour but you will end up taking bad photos through the window and follow the whole group in pre-oriented visits. You'll have no freedom at all (and bring money for extra "tips" !)

3 : RUM & Cigars : dont buy them at the Hotel. The bottles of Rum are cheap, but you can have a 7 year old cave aged RUM bottle for the same price (7,60$) at the Airport. The cigars and cigarillos will cost you double the price at the hotel store as well.

4 : Not all inclusive : you'll have to pay extra for the safe inside your room... (for 2$ a day, it is not a big deal, but should be included)

5 : DONT change your money at the airport nor at the hotel lobby, there's a bank, right ourside the hotel which offers the very best rate, 96 CUC for 100 CAD (lobby offers 90 CUC and airport, about 92CUC)
THE GOOD POINTS :

1 : Very friendly staff, and beautiful smily extremely kind highly interesting local people.

2 : The music bands and dancers are great. Cubans love music, they are music.

3 : Excellent rooms, causy, very clean and excellent room service. Dont forget to leave them daily 1 CUC (1$) or some chocolate or lipstick, they really appreciate it. Rooms all have a private balcony or patio, we slept very very well.

4 : Beautiful beaches, and blue, turquoise lagoon waters.

5 : Excellent coffee and drinks at the main lobby bar, excellent bar mans and service at the restaurants.

6 : Beautiful vegetation, wildlife (pink flamingos, coco birds, falcons, pelicans) flours and weather ! Great hike on the left side of the beach. (but unfortunately, very polluted)

7 : The Catamaran tour is superb, with great food (fresh homar!), great snorkelling and staff. We had the chance to see wild dolphins. Dont hesitate to tip the staff well as it is not a private company.

8 : Great intertainment : Free Catamarans (with skipper), free Kayak and pedalos, aqua gym, bikes (1 hour free) and fitness room. (quite useless if you swim the whole day ! :)

Dear Mr. Flohoss:
Thank you for choosing our hotel for your vacation. We are happy to hear you enjoyed our services, that the staff was kind with you and your family and that you had the opportunity to relax and explore de beauties of Jardines del Rey.
We regret the fact that the food didn’t meet your expectations. I will check personally with our head Chef in order to improve the perception you had of our snack bar and main buffet. We know that the neighboring town is far away but there are many activities to do here as well, and many new to come so that clients have a wide variety of options in order to enjoy their vacation.
We kindly appreciate the time you invested in this review and we look forward to welcoming you once again in Iberostar Daiquiri
Kind regards

So looking forward to returning to the Iberostar Dacquiri for our 9th trip over 10 years. We are Renewing our Vows there in May with 32 family and friends! We have been to several other places in Cuba and Dominican and always end up wishing we went there!! The staff are amazing...the food always good and the shows fun....Even visited there a couple times when on the Island and always felt welcome by the staff as they remember me.....so it wasnt a hard decision on where to go.... was originally booked at the Iberostar Ensenachos.

Hotel was good but the Entertainment Staff made it one of our most enjoyable vacations.
Food was good, Bartenders are very friendly.
You might want to bring some mosquito repellent.
We will be returning again.

Since I had such an awesome trip to the dacquiri, in 2011, why would I choose another destination for 2012. This place is the friendliest, most wonderful place to go if you want great service, great food, and great entertainment . You may choose to just chill , like I like to do or there are attractions you can take in, if you so choose. Since Daiquiri is set on a pristine Cay , after a 40 minute air conditioned bus, it is not close to everything- but you can take an overnight trip to Havana, as well as other attractions, if you choose. But WHY? To spend a day here , you will get all the rest and relaxation you need , but you can also take part in the many activities on the resort- from Yoga in the morning at 10am on mats listening to relaxing music, and also again at noon - in the pristine waters, fun contests all day like archery, mini golf, pool contest, activities at the beach as well as the pool etc - all you need to do is find out what's happening - at the desk or one of the Star Friends - they will be the ones with yellow tops and blue shorts. They are very helpful so do not hesitate to ask them. The entertainment in lobby bar at night was awesome, followed by a show put on by the Star Friends around 9pm- ( not to be missed) - and let your hair down and participate during the shows that involve the audience- I had so much fun at the entertainment !!! The vacationers both years were also fantastic, everyone was relaxed and I met alot of nice people from Canada, Argentina, Great Britain, and this year people from Amsterdam - with a smaller resort of 312 rooms , you get to know and hang out with most of the people. I prefer a smaller resort over a large one, I was greeted by staff that remembered me from last year, the reception, the maids. the star friends , the gardiners, etc and I was so surprised that that they remember former quests - even after one visit- and they make your stay an experience, you are not going to forget. I plan another trip to Iberostar Daiquiri next year and this will be my 5th visit to Cuba - the other resorts were awesome as well but my pick is the Daiquiri - and would highly recommend this resort, I was told there were going to be upgrades this year and I just hope do not plan to make it a larger resort , I stayed in Guadalavaca suite suite this year and had a lovely view of the ocean and the sunrise - I actually emailed them to request such a room and they had my room waiting. All the suites are good, were clean and close by to everything- last year I stayed at Granma which was the same except for the view- but hey - I make my own time - and cannot wait until next year. Wish I had the cash to go back again next week and hope spring will be sprung in Nova Scotia when I return !!

Room Tip: I recommend any room - except for may be the lobby - and I think they will be part of the renos this...
