“You better have your own computer”
Reviewed January 6, 2012

Diving with Green Moray you are on your own. This was not an issue for my daughter and I as we always take our own gear and have a reasonable amount of experience. However we did ten dives with these guys over Xmas and they did not check our air once. The deep dives here are fairly flat so if you are down 100' you are there for the whole dive unless you come up off the reef and the dive master assumes you have a computer and are diving to the limit of your no-decom time whether or not you actual have one. For those who chose to rent gear it was not so good as there were issues with rental gear on every dive and they don't rent computers so you are simply expected to stay above the other divers though they don;t tell you that in the briefing even when there is one.

We are used to doing two dives in the morning but here there was only one morning dive then an afternoon dive so two dives took from 9:00 am till 2:30 pm and since it is a fair hike down the beach to the dive shop we did not return to our hotel until we were done.

Assuming you are experienced and have your own gear these guys are quite pleasant to dive with the diving is not great but not bad and it sure beats sitting around the resort. If you are new to diving or just learning you should avoid Green Moray.

“Scuba Diving at Iberostar Daiquiri”
Reviewed May 31, 2009

Just a quick note on the diving facilities provided by this hotel. It is widley publicised that it has it's own dive centre. It does not, this is actually next door at the Hotel Melia (Green Moray Diving Centre, [--]). This does not however present a problem as the dive boat no longer departs fom the beach. Instead you are collected by coach and transefered to the Marina which is five minutes drive away. I took my own equipment so had no problems. Others however had issues, the most common fault was leaks from the first stage due to faulty 'O' rings and cracked Din to yoke adaptors. If you plan to take your own equipment I would stock up on these items. The diving is pretty unchallenging so will suite beginners and intermediates. Sea fans and sponges seem to be the areas speciallity and these were in good condition particularly when compared with Tulum (Mexico) the previous year. Barracuda are also comon and the occasional Turtle and Nurse Shark, the Carribean side of the island alledgedy offers superior diving. Prices are 180 Cuban Convertiple paseos (CUC) for a five dive package. At the time this was approx £0.75/CUC. Equipment hire is an addtional 10 CUC per dive.
