“Excellent meal. Very tasty meal, lovely presentation”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

I am a BarBadian and have eaten in many of our local restaurants. Chez Max has replaced David's on St. Lawrence Main Road, and its singular drawback is crossing the road when using their car park. Once safely across expect an excellent meal. Yes the servers are or seem to lack confidence in their approach to customers but as the restaurant's reputation for good food spreads so will their confidence. There 4 of us. We each had a different entrée and we were all very complementary. I finished with plain ordinary fruit salad for desert, I passed on the vanilla ice cream - the mixture was extensive and the dish substantial. Definitely not 2 pieces of cantaloupe, some water melon and apple chips complete with skin. I recommend Chez Max for a fine meal!

“Delicious food, fantastic waterside location & great service”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

Although, difficult to maneouvre the busy main road to gain entry into the restaurant - it was well worth the somewhat dangerous effort. My partner and I had the set dinner menu and it was absolutely beautiful. A couple of days earlier we had been given the $10 discount coupon but we forgot to hand this in when we paid the bill and to be honest we were not bothered, as the meal was not as expensive as some of the other restaurants (nowhere near as nice) we had dined in during the week. The food was first class and the dining room is stunning - very elegant and intimate. it was lovely to share a bottle of wine and eat fine food whilst overlooking the sea. Our waitress Deborah was very polite and attentive at the same time as being unobtrusive. Max introduced himself to us and asked if everything was to our liking, which was a nice touch.

All in all, we would describe this as a perfect little hideaway to enjoy superb food in a romantic and relaxed atmosphere for a very reasonable price.

“Disappointing, poor service.”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

We ended up at Chez Max after we were approached by a woman in St Lawrence Gap with a menu and a voucher for $10 off the bill.

We were only looking for a light meal as we'd had a big luch, but she said it would be fine to just order a few starters.

When we arrived, we were shown to a table on a balcony area overlooking the sea. It was quite quiet, but it felt nice.

We ordered drinks and starters, but got a lot of funny looks from the staff when we said we were told we didn't want to order mains.

After our food came, we were ignored. We all needed our water topping up, and I had to get up to ask the waitress to do this. We also had some problems with the food - my friend had mussels, and it was a little worrying as a lot of the shells were smashed, as if they'd been broken open.
After our (very) light starters - didn't seem worth the money - we decided to order dessert.

The mousse cake my friend ordered came out so frozen solid that she couldn't eat it. She sent it back, but for some strange reason it still appeared on the bill! When we pointed this out the staff seemed confused as to why this was wrong. We also asked why we hadn't had our voucher taken into account and they said as we hadn't ordered a main course it wasn't valid - not what the promo girl said!

Apart from the frozen cake, the food was good, though a little overpriced. It was really the staff that let it down.
