“Fantastic Views and Amazing Staff”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

If from your holiday you want fantastic service, with nothing being too much trouble, amazing views, comfortable studios which are fully equipped with all necessary equipement this is the hotel for you . The hotel is located in the heart of St Lawrence Gap so you dont have to go far to see the entertainment

My husband and I have never met such wonderful and happy staff with there sole purpose is to make your holiday as special and memorable as possible.
Not just the beautiful Annalees and Rose on the front desk but the wonderfully happy and kind domestic staff too.

After just returning from our second visit to South Gap Hotel I can most definately say that will not be our last.

We have stayed here in Feb of 2011 and again feb 3013 for two weeks each time The location can't be beat - right on water side and also within walking distance of many restaurants and bars. Also, Dover beach - one of the nicest just five minutes walk up the road. This hotel is super clean and the staff is friendly and accommodating to say the least. The place feels like home and that is why we keep coming back. Lots of guests return year after year so that speaks for itself. We just love this place - it is older but much nicer than the big hotels. It has its own little restauant as well where we enjoyed all of our breakfasts and lunch and dinner is available as well. A wonderful little bar is poolside as well. Perfect for 2 for one drinks at Happy Hour!!! Cecile , the manager is a gem and cannot do enough for her guests!!! Free WiFi is nice as well. So come and see for yourself!!!!!

Room Tip: The suites on pool deck are perfect and quiet. The ones with balconies which all of the others hav...

Booked last minute through one of the airlines and what a little gem. Despite the acknowledged noise, in both advertising and this site, from a "car park disco" opposite, this hotel lived up to the advertising. Every room is guaranteed an ocean view and what a view. The noise was a concern and as indicated in other reviews goes on until around 3 every morning but, like everything you get used to it and we were only really disturbed by it on one night. Kareoke nights are the worst, rather than the disco nights but everything else about the island blanks it out. Take the risk as you will find a great result.

The studio was small but it has equipped with all the necessary amenities: stove, fridge, microwave, cable TV, phone, FREE Wifi and AC. The balcony overlooking the seaside restaurant provided a relaxing view. The pool and restaurant/bar sit on a short cliff over the sea so looking over the railing, you'll stare right down into the water. There were lots of crabs scurrying around each morning. That was fun to watch. The food was casual and good. The bar staff mostly young men who do not wear uniform but they are easy to identify by their willingness to assist. If you are a party animal, then you're in luck because this hotel is directly across the street from the very popular Sugar Ultra Lounge. There is a slots arcade downstairs but I did not visit it. Room service comes every other day.

Room Tip: A room with a balcony offers a great view!

On arriving we were v happy to be told we had been up graded to a 1 bedroom apt. It was superb! We unpacked and went out to eat. Having had. Long journey we returned to go to bed early only to find that the out door kareoky sounded like it was in our room! This went on till about 3.30 and then people sitting in the are outside we're having a good old chat and laugh for the rest of the night. We didn't get much sleep. The manager was v nice and sympathetic but said she couldn't move us to a quieter room till 3 days later. When we finally moved, the room was quieter but a big come down in all ways except for the view. We got the impression that everyone starts off in the noisy rooms. Having to complain and put up ,with this took the edge off the start of our holiday. However the position and view was excellent. Staff mostly friendly and helpfull.

Room Tip: Ground and lower ground are quieter. All rooms have good sea view.

Much has been written about the noise pollution coming from Hal's Carpark Bar and Sugar across the street. Unfortunately it is all true. The noise goes on 'til after 3.00 a.m. Luckily we were able to move to a room at the front on the first floor after the second night (we were originally on the third floor where the loudness was terrifble). We heard very little from the third night of our nne night stay.
The staff couldn't have been better. All were most friendly and helpful we have ever encountered.
The food in the restaurant was excellent as were the servers and Happy Hour was not to be missed! There are two two for one Happy Hours - one at noon and the other at 5.00 p.m.
We will absolutely be back to this hotel!!

Room Tip: Be sure to book a ground floor or first floor room to avoid the noise

This was our First visit to Barbados and having looked at the hotels in this area it appeared to be a good hotel. Websites are certainly deceiving. The main problem with this hotel as we found out to our cost is the noise. The karaoke bar and club across the street which go on till at least 0300 and sometimes later in the early hours, as well as the 24 hour "Slots" bar directly underneath the hotel with a patio which once the karaoke and bars close some of the people migrate to this and create unbelievable drunken noise. We had to complain about this a few times but it had no result. The language is also atrocious. We could probably get a better nights sleep at a Formula 1 race meeting.
We never had a decent nights sleep the whole 9 days we were there.
Despite complaining to the manger they can do little about it.
While the hotel staff were pleasant and the room clean the hotel is in some serious need of refurbishment. The pool area is very dull and the pool loungers require to be replaced as old and dirty.
Security at the front desk at night was very poor. We returned one night and the guard was sound asleep and another night we weren't even challenged.
While we enjoyed the trip to Barbados we certainly would not recommend this hotel for a holiday and won't be returning to this area again.
We did stay one night at the Accra Beach hotel which was fab.
Made the wrong decision to stay at South Gap Hotel.
