“Location Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2012

Stayed 10 days in January 2012.Location is AAA. This hotel is next door to Rostrevor and many restaurants and clubs. 5 minutes to Dover Beach where you can rent 2 beds and umbrella for $10US for the day. Convenience store with wine, fruit and groceries is a few doors down. Big B suprmarket (looks like a Loblaws and even has Presidents choice and IGA items) is a 15 minute walk away and is cheaper. Mostly retired people staying here. Staff goes out of their way to make your stay as nice as possible. Excellent pool and every room has a priceless view next to the ocean. Its true about the noise coming from the bar across the street at night however I found the waves of the ocean were even louder when I left my balcony doors open. The South Gap should not be considered a 2 star hotel but rather a 5 star motel. By that I mean you are not going to find luxurious corridors, designer furniture...It is intimate and comfortable and easy to meet other guests who are there for a good time. Totally recommend it.

Room Tip: First floor is quiet but 216 & 316 gets you a nice balcony view and the stairwell blocks out nig...

We stayed at South Gap over New Years 2011/2012. Firstly if you want to book here remember that if you get the wrong room - you could be in for a really really horrible and noisy stay - so make sure you contact the hotel directly and ask for their non-noisy rooms. I know this because I stayed in one of their super noisy rooms and after leaving let them know my feedback - they were very gracious about it and told me that they are planning on some upgrades to mitigate the noise. In the interim, they did say there are certain rooms within the hotel where the noise is not a problem.
But if you don't get one of the quiet rooms be prepared for a really really bad nights sleep - thats if you get any sleep at all. I am usually I very good sleeper - I can fall asleep anywhere at anytime - but not here. You see the resort faces the Caribbean sea (south facing) so the lovely crashing of the surf - but on the other side is a lot of night clubs - you see you are in St Lawrence Gap. It is a great place to be - lots to do, lots of places to eat, to party etc. This means that it is really noisy - as the night goes on, the noise gets louder and louder - you can hear the songs word for word. My husband slept about 2 hours the whole time we were there - he was not a happy camper after that let me tell you! If you still want to stay here and I really do stand by the fact that the noise is the only bad thing about the place, just bring your ear plugs.
The staff at the hotel are first class - I have stayed at a fair few hotels and these staff members really exhibit best practice customer service. They are friendly, they are welcoming, they are efficient and they are knowledgeable.
The restaurant in the hotel was also great - the food very nice and well priced - this is pretty good seeing that Barbados is not exactly the land of cheap eats.
Overall I would come here again if I was staying in a non-noisy room.

Room Tip: Contact them before you book and ask for a quieter room - if you are not in a quiet room forget slee...

Myself, husband, mum and dad stayed at South Gap Hotel beginning of December 2011, me and my husband had stayed at the hotel the year before and enjoyed it so much came back the next year along with parents. The reception, housekeeping, handyman, bar/restaurant staff are all lovely and friendly, they all make sure your stay is really enjoyable. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean. It was my birthday while we were there and was surprised with a bottle of wine and a birthday card from all the staff at South Gap which was a really nice touch. We all loved it that much we have booked again and are returning in November 2012.

My cousin and I stayed here for Christmas( 9 nights )and we were really pleased with everything at the Hotel. The girls at reception were more than helpful, polite and friendly.
We were staying on the first floor, beautiful view of the pool and the sea, what a view to have every morning, amazing!! All the rooms have sea-view. We were not affected by noise from the street at night, partly because we didn't get in until 3-4am.....nightlife is great! But if you do want to go to bed early I would definitely suggest a room in the first floor as that is the quietest. Or maybe pack a set of ear-plugs to be safe!
Amazing restaurants up and down the road from the hotel, and the restaurant downstairs in the hotel is very good also with very nice staff. Beautiful Dover beach is about 5mins walk. Good bars right across the road and a very nice club called Sugar is where The Ship Inn used to be. We saw Rihanna there so that was exciting!
Also there is McBrides for good bands and DJ, the Reggae Lounge is also a good spot.
Our room was a studio, and was very well equipped, it even had washing-up liquid and tea-towels which you don't normally get. Maids were great and the room was very clean.
I would definitely return to this Hotel.

Room Tip: First floor is great.

Stayed at South Gap hotel December 2011-January 2012 second time and would very much like to stay there again if travelling to Barbados.
Hotel is located at St Lawrence Gap, close to bars, restaurants, bank, convience store, bus route and Bridgetown ( takes just 15-30 minutes by local bus to get there costing only 2 Bajan Dollars ). Stayed on 3rd floor superior studio with twin beds, balcony, well-equipped kitchenette ( fridge, freezer, microwave oven, hob, water-kettle, toaster, coffee- maker and enough dishes for cooking ). Room is clean and more spacious than what web-site shows. Balcony has a lovely ocean-view.
Noise did not disturb us at all, after an active day we fell asleep without a problem of any kind.
Staff at South Gap hotel is friendly and ever so helpful. Atmosphere is relaxed and overall you get more than what you pay if you decide to stay at this hotel.
If I should say 3 things why to choose this hotel they would be the location, friendly staff and an excellent value for your money!

This was our second visit to The South Gap hotel and it still did not disappoint. We went for the Xmas and New Year period, a busy time but still the staff had time to smile and chat. As return clients the manager herself found time out to come and chat on our first day.

We used the bar and Andy and Gail were perfect hosts. The rooms are clean and the views are superb.

Continuing updating the hotel means that it will be even better next time and I understood from the Manager that the noise problem will be solved this year.

Situated in the heart of the Gap, the nightlife is on the doorstep, so no need to drive or get taxis unless you want to.

Fireworks and partying on New Years Eve, and dining outside in the warm Bajan air is something not to miss.

Our 6th Christmas in Barbados, bring on the 7th!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are ocean views.

My wife and I stayed here from Dec 24th to 28th.

The hotel is nicely located to conventiently access the attractions, restaurants and bars along the Gap. The downside to the location is the night-life starts at 9 pm and only simmers down at 3 am. If you are trying to sleep during these times, it will be difficult at this location.

The hotel is old and looks overly touched up and repaired, It really needs a full renovation and new furniture.

All rooms have an ocean view but there is only a pool and no beach. For those who want to use the beach, you can do so through the hotel next door, but we felt like trespassers when we used their beach chairs.

The staff are wonderful and go out of their way to assist patrons.

Room Tip: Best room choice is at pool level which means you avoid the nighlife noise infiltration and have a w...
