We recently returned from a one-week stay at the lovely Ocean Two Resort and Residences. Located in Saint Lawrence Gap, the hotel is within walking distance of a number of bars, cafés and restaurants. The one-bedroom ocean view suite we stayed in was immaculately clean with a large balcony, a comfortable bed and all that you would need in the kitchen for a short or long stay. We took advantage of the hotel’s offer to stock the kitchen with groceries selected from a list supplied by the hotel prior to our arrival.

The hotel offered three happy hours a day, a variety of themed barbeque dinners, and room service. All staff members were friendly, helpful and were great at anticipating your needs.

Excursions around the island could be arranged through the concierge’s desk. Check in was at 3 PM and since we arrived a little earlier we were offered a cool towel and a fruit drink to enjoy while we relaxed in the lobby waiting for our room to be ready.

The general manager hosts a cocktail get-together on Monday evenings and for those who do not want to avail themselves of the main hotel pool or the beach there is a small but lovely rooftop pool with lounge chairs and a lovely view of the coast.

Our room was extremely quiet, with a very large shower, lovely toiletries and a sofa bed in the living-room area.

The only downfall was that there was an influx of seaweed along the south coast of the island at the time but this is something that is obviously out of the control of any hotel. The staff did their best to keep the beach as clean of seaweed as possible.

If you are looking for a hotel that is medium-sized, well-located and with a staff that truly make you feel welcomed, this is the hotel for you.

I stayed here for 4 nights in a 1BR ocean front room. Overall the room was clean, but it's getting dated [since my last visit]. The bathroom shower had no water pressure, the toilet seat was loose. The TV didn't work - they replaced it. The ceiling is not sound proof - so hooves galore.
The staff is overall friendly, but upon check-in, they forgot to mention what was included in my room [breakfast etc].
Seems like new management is in place and it's not as nice as it was before.
The beach is unusable - seaweed problem in the area - least the hotel could have offered was shuttles to cleaner waters, but nope.
The mixed cocktails are gross - sugar sugar and more sugar.
Breakfast was ok - not enough local dishes and protein.
I doubt I'll stay here again, time for a new place.

Encouraged by the great reviews here, we were planning to spend two full weeks in this hotel and we fully pre-paid our stay in a beachfront one bedroom suite. We were determined to overlook the current seaweed situation and just make the most of our time there. The booking total came to just over €4,000 (about £3,700) for the 14 nights.

Our booking was made on the Expedia-owned site called Hotels.com, which listed the room occupancy as 4 people. Our party includes three adults (my husband, my mum and myself), and our 8-month old baby. Upon making the reservation, we were promptly contacted by the hotel to advise that their one bedroom suites accommodate either three adults, or two adults and two children under 16. I emailed back trying to understand whether this is the hotel policy, as we travel a lot as a family and we have never come across such an issue (our last holiday being in Mauritius when our son was about 8 weeks old). Just to be clear, the stated room size is 75 square metres (over 800 sq feet), with a separate bedroom and a double sofa in the living area - I figured if Barbados laws and regulations don’t specifically forbid such a setup, surely there is enough space for an 8 month old and his crib.

Well, I was wrong. The email response arrived again promptly, but without any justification or attempt to apologise (after all, it’s their listing on Hotels.com that states the room is for max 4 people). It simply contained our options - either upgrade to a two bedroom suite with them directly, or via Expedia. There was no effort to ensure they would retain our custom, so at this point I chose to cancel our reservation as I didn’t feel the extra spend is justifiable just because we’re bringing along our son.

We were of course looking forward to our stay given the positive feedback from other customers, but considering the cold manner in which we were treated by the person in charge I am now pleased that we will take our €4,000+ budget elsewhere. It is almost a laughable situation that we’ve been treated this way considering the amount of money we were willing to spend here (never mind additional lunches, dinners etc as we’re not that mobile with a baby in tow). Although other customers mention complimentary upgrades left, right and centre in their reviews on here, we were also deemed unworthy of such a gesture. So all in all, a disappointing experience - mostly because of the lack of flexibility and, to put it simply, any graciousness on the hotel’s part when dealing with our particular situation.

Ants in my bathroom near the sink, bathroom door broken, room wasn't cleaned in a timely manner when it was requested, beach front covered in seaweed, and the food was subpar. This hotel experience was not what I expected from previous reviews that I read.

Second stay at Ocean Two , stayed 7 days in May. Check in smooth although room wasn’t quite ready for 3 o’clock , however our 1 bedroom suite was superb , had room 401A which was a corner unit so had a extra large balcony. The difference between the standard bedrooms and Ocean front suites is massive , both in terms of size and outlook , don’t be tempted to save a few pounds on a room. Kitchen area had everything with dishwasher tablets and coffee replaced daily , rooms are kept spotless every day. Bathroom is great , soaker shower tremendous. Sun beds are super comfy , sadly seaweed problems when we were there so sea not great for anything but a paddle , obviously beyond hotels control. Staff all great as always , we chose to eat in the resort which is about half mile up the road we like to walk so wasn’t a problem and get to pass the many characters along the way , locals are really friendly. Main recommendations if on South Coast , don’t miss Oistins on a Friday night and visit the Boatyard which is on Carlisle Bay just outside Bridgetown , $50 barbados gets you sun beds , $40 voucher to spend on food and drink and snorkelling with turtles and over a ship wreck for no extra charge.
