“Second visit even better than the first”
Reviewed July 13, 2012

Our second visit to Ocean2 and even better than the first! Beautifully appointed hotel with absolutely superb team of staff in all areas.

We came on a BA Holiday and chose to upgrade to a 1 bedroom sea facing apartment based on our previous good experience in Septemer last year. We had no hesitation in giving this hotel 5 stars even though at the time the food offer was not extensive and in the process of management change.

The new restaurant is now in house managed with a very good chef and an improved location for dining (an open marquee on the terrace). We ate there twice during our 10 day stay and food was very good.

We understand that the marquee is temporary and there are now plans to make it a more permanent addition to the hotel which, with its beachfront location, should enable it to compete with the other beachfront restaurants, particularly as there will be a saving of between $40 and $60 taxi fee to some of them.

Great work O2 team, keep it up and thanks.

Room Tip: Best rooms are sea facing but many package tours only cover non sea facing rooms. Well worth the upg...

The Hilton in Barbados is overrated compared to Oceans Two which doesn't get as much credit!! The location is perfect!! The Gap is great to go out...without a car. And you don't have to stay on the resort. There's tonnes of choices nearby...street vendors, restaurants, bars, clubs, beaches...

It was our tenth time (or more) on the island in the space of a year. It was the first time our friend came. The suite was incredible!!! View...amazing!! Layout...amazing!! Cleanliness...amazing!!

The staff were wonderful! They made us feel comfortable. We had use of a pool or the beach...hotels in the gap don't have their own beach.

Compared to other hotels in the gap it might seem pricey but for the quality you get it's most definitely worth it. Staying at the Hilton does not compare. Costs more yet you are secluded to a cove where you don't get to explore the island without a tour guide or car!!

My husband and I always rent a car but being able to leave a room that actually feels like home and go for a walk and come back is spectacular.

We have even stayed in sandy lanes...apparently a prestigious area. Hotels are over priced and staff are not as great.

To sum it up...we're going back and we will be staying at oceans two again...without a doubt. The other hotels...hmmmm...not!!

Thanks you to the manager who was so friendly at the manager's rooftop terrace party. It's the only hotel we've stayed at in Barbados with a rooftop terrace. The appetizers were great, music was light, view amazing and it was a mingle all around. If you've stayed in Barbados before you know that manager cocktail parties are nothing special. At Oceans Two....everything from the location, the staff, the view, the appetizers, the crowd....makes it fantastic!!

Our thanks to the staff especially for making it such a welcome visit for us.

We have just returned from 10 days - staying in one of the two bedroom ocean view suites (room 401). Excellent room. I'm not going to repeat all the, positive and helpful, comments already posted as on the whole pretty accurate. To summarise:
- Excellent quality, clean, comfortable and location
- Very quite in the evening - you are best going out, shame really as the Meet the Manager's evening was excellent (Wednesday) - I found the manager, Paul, very helpful and he was so interested in a couple of suggestions for their Web site etc he sent a complimentary bottle of wine to our room the next day!
- Beach excellent - it's the south coast so slightly rough / not ideal for snorkelling - however we DID see Turtles from outside the hotel and found swimming great fun - especially with the hotel supplied body boards, kayak etc. - if you want a beach with no stones / slightly smoother then Dover beach in 2 minutes walk round the corner (accessible by sea - up to your knees - or round the road (4 minutes walk). Dover beach you can hire sun loungers / umbrella for 5$Bdn / day - bargain.
- Note Barbados is NOT cheap so if on a budget take coffee/tea bags and buy local food from Scotty's / local cafe's (although gets a bit boring fried/jerk Chicken and Fish - not great on veg!) - We averaged about $75 Bdn / per person a night on restaurants in the Gap - could get a little cheaper if willing to go for chinese or other basic alternatives
- Best meal Champers - although not cheap - (around $1k Bdn for the 3 of us) - All the dishes we had were excellent - recommend the Barracuda baked in Parmesan cheese and Coconut Pie
- If you want really good beaches then the west coast can not be beaten (taxi, hire car or bus) - only about 20 minutes away - RECOMMEND Ramshackle in Heron Bay - the best of the lot - cheap, good quality and beach second to none (and not too busy!)
- Catamarans - spent a long time visiting / looking at them all - Small Cats, Elegance, Jammin, Calabaza etc. etc. - in the end we went on El Tigre - lucky as only about 10 people and good trip - I would suggest having a couple lined up and check on the day re. numbers if you want to avoid crushed trips. To swim with Turtles you do NOT need to go on one of these - there are plenty of places you can snorkel (borrow from hotel , small hire charge on some beaches), you may want to get a underwater camera and some fish food to feed them (keep an eye out for the Cat's and when they stop to feed them just swim out and join them - it's a free sea!
- Best taxi we found (actually had working air conditioning, seatbelts etc.) was Victor (246) 244 5466
- Best trip - Hire Car (from local "Express" place round the corner - cheaper than hotel) - Animal Flower Caves at the north of the island - stunning cliff / Atlantic views and good shop. We hired a car for two days - 2nd day just to go back and spend the day on the beaches on the west coast. Beware when driving in Barbados - no drink driving law or MOT's in Barbados so be alert!
- We flew Virgin as opposed to BA - tiny seats / crammed in and very uncomfortable, had to pay extra for extra legroom - Virgin charge for "exit seats" where BA do not - next time BA I think!

Overall Hotel was excellent - if you are on a budget then you may end up cooking / staying in your room a lot so get an ocean view as excellent balconies etc..

Room Tip: Ocean view (as opposed to Bay view) Corner suites have double aspect

Oceans Two Resort

My husband and I stayed here in June for our 10 year anniversary. The resort was beautiful. The beach was lovely as well as the pool and chairs. We enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend this resort. The staff is friendly and welcoming. If you are looking for a very relaxing vacation, this is the spot for you. We went during the off season, and found it to be just that…not many people around. We love just relaxing, but would have liked to see more tourists around the resort and St. Lawrence Gap. Some Tips:

1. You can walk to St. Lawrence Gap- Don’t get too excited. It is only restaurants- No shopping except for a few street vendors.

2. You don’t need to rush to get a spot on the beach or save a chair.

3. While on the beach, you will be given a little flag to prop up in the sand if you need service.

4. Happy Hour at the bar- buy one get one free drink specials! When we were there I believe the happy hour times were 12:30 to 1:30 and 4:30 to 5:30. You can ask to be sure. A loud horn will sound at the beginning of happy hour and at the end.

5. If you are booking through Interval International- be warned!!!!!! Prior to booking, I called the resort and was told that I would get a bay view room or ocean front. :-( We got a bay view room--Very deceiving- you will not see any water, you will see the buildings next door. We actually needed to pay more money to upgrade to an ocean front. The ocean front room was smaller, but the view was much better. Unfortunately, it started our vacation off on a sour note and took a long time to get into our ocean front room.

6. Wednesday night – “Manager Roof Top Party” was nice. I liked the jewelry vendors that were there.

7. We found the area safe, but we were annoyed with the men who would sit on the street outside of the resort. Every time we walked past them they would try to sell us drugs or aloe. Very annoying!!!!!

8. While you are sitting on the beach, you might have someone come up to you trying to sell something. It is best to say no thank you right away if you are not interested because it is harder to get rid of them if you start looking at their items.

9. The jewelry street vendors and not pushy.

10. The food at the resort is not great! In fact, we didn’t find great food often on the island! The best food was found at Shakers- a little restaurant that is off on a backstreet- you would need to take a taxi. Well worth it!!!!!

Overall, we will not be returning to Barbados. The food was just ok-if that, the beach was beautiful, but there is not much to do on the island. We are not party animals, but do enjoy a little action. Perhaps it was lacking the action due to it being June.

Oceans Two is a nice resort. I hope you enjoy your stay!

Room Tip: Get an Ocean Front room. If you'd like to walk right out to the pool, get a first floor room, b...

Context for the review: We only stayed here one night because we wanted to stay on the east coast. We didn't experience maid service and only ate breakfast at the hotel (no other meals). Our next hotel left something to be desired (but was cheaper) and may have inflated our perceptions of Ocean Two.

Positives: 1) service was attentive (sometimes overly so) and pleasant and I guess staff is forbidden to ride the elevator with guests (which is a bit crazy), 2) we stayed in a partial ocean view room with a king sized bed (comfy), the shower was incredible, double sinks were a plus, the A/C was relatively quiet, and our room was quiet, and room was very clean, 3) the chairs on the beach and poolside were the most comfortable outdoor furniture we have ever experienced, pool was clean and mostly quiet (although there were a few children), 4) beach seemed private even though technically it's not, and 5) within walking distance to all the great restaurants in the area but far enough away from any loud partying/noise.

Negatives: Technically, we'd probably give Ocean Two 4.5, if we could. 1) The bartender was terrible and could not make any standard drinks or even ones we tried to select from the menu because they were out of staple ingredients/mixers. 2) On the beach, we were hassled a few times by people trying to sell things.

We would definitely stay here again and wished we had booked more than one night. They were nice enough to hold our bags and let us use all of their facilities for the day even after we checked out.

After reading all the fantastic reviews I must say that I was very disappointed.

I'll start with the positives as there were some:

Rooms; very nice and big we had a 2 bed suite which I would highly recommend. It had all the facilities you needed and a wonderful view.

Drinks; cocktails were delicious and always done to a high standard.

Pool scene; both pools were very pleasant to use, the adult pool was always very quiet and a nice place for relaxation.

The negatives:
Although the rooms were very tidy there was a lot of dust between the bed and the mattress.

Service was not as good as reviewed, on one occasion when we ordered room service and were told "at this time!!" it was only 8:30pm.
The maids also cleaned our room fairly late on one occasion they did not come until 5 PM.

Food: worst of all was the food which left much to be desired and was extremely over priced. I would recommend that you try the restaurants in the surrounding areas and save your money from the poor quality and expensive food at the hotel.

Overall I can see why this hotel has not reached a five star standard we did have a pleasant stay but I would definitely rate it as average, sadly.

Dear “Bupkin”,

We are sorry to hear that you had a few areas of concern on your recent stay with us at Ocean Two Resort & Residences.

With regards to our housekeeping standards, we focus heavily on training and quality assurance to meet international standards and will review the area of concern to determine if any further action is necessary. We apologize that housekeeping was not able to clean your room until later in the day on one occasion and we have developed a procedure to ensure that persons requiring service by a particular time are accommodated.

In terms of our Food & Beverage services, we have spent a lot of time developing our menu and the prices to ensure that we offer guests great value for a bistro style menu as we recognize that there are many fantastic eating establishments within walking distance and this is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the Barbados experience. Our prices range from US$18 for a full, buffet breakfast to US$25 for a 2 course lunch and a 3 course dinner will cost approximately US$55 which based on our market research are very competitive prices.

We do thank you for your kind remarks on size and overall comfort of our suites, your enjoyment of our pool facilities and beverage service and are pleased that you did have a pleasant stay overall.

We hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to Ocean Two in the near future.

Just returned from a 2 week stay at Ocean 2. What an experience. Ocean 2 is a beautiful hotel. We stayed in a 1 bed ocean view room that has everything you need. Our room was missing a couple of things when we arrived but a quick call to reception and these items were delivered to our room within a couple of minutes. The hotel is spotlessly clean throughout.
What makes the hotel extra special, is the staff. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the staff who all made an effort to approach us, introduce themselves and welcome us to Ocean 2. All of the staff are extremely friendly and really can't do enough for you to ensure your stay is enjoyable. I must give a special mention to Shantelle, Paige, Earrie, Jeffrey and Stefan who always provided an exceptional service with a smile.
The beach and pool area are amazing, never overcrowded, always loungers available whatever time of day you chose to go.
The food in the restaurant was beautiful (although the choice on the evening menu was limited). Unlike some other reviews mention, we never had to wait long for our food to arrive.
We really couldn't find any fault with Ocean 2 and would not hesitate to return.
Another extra special moment for us was when a giant sea turtle came on to our beach one evening to lay her eggs - that was truly magical to witness.
Recommendations from us would be the catamaran cruise, Harbour Lights, Oisten's Fish Fry and Pices restaurant.
The hotel is quiet in the evening and whilst there are several bars and restaurants 10 minutes away at St Lawrence Gap, it would be good if the hotel provided some occasional evening entertainment to encourage guests to mingle in the bar.
Overall, a fantastic holiday. We do hope to go back next year.
Ocean 2, please do not let the excellent reviews encourage you to increase your prices that will prevent guests returning.
We miss you already
