We'd picked this place out in advance of our holiday as being our kind of eatery - one serving genuine good local food.
Despite a considerable delay before we were given a menu, or offered a drink, the menu (unlike the offer of drinks, which NEVER happened!) was eventually brought. Sure enough, that menu was good, and we made mouth watering choices. HOWEVER, thereafter, nobody looked the road we were on for about 25 minutes. We were just about to give up and leave when the waitress arrived and took our food order. Thus far, no one had offered us drinks, not even water. Yet again, we waited, and waited, ....and waited, until we finally gave up waiting and left. That final wait was perhaps down to the 3 staff present having a discussion around the till about another party having also left dissatified and without their planned meal.
Thankfully, we didn't have far to look in the Gap for the kind of service we had expected in Sweet Potato.
I'm heartened to read that other people have had a good experience here, but disappointed, as should be the management of Sweet Potato, that our experience wasn't just a "one off" on a bad night for them.

The staff were all wonderful. The service was great. The food was served with a smile and in large portions. Very relaxed atmosphere.

When we went to Sweet Potatoes, we were initially the only ones in, which is never a good sign. BUT - the staff were very attentive and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and they take a good photo too!
Food was good - the jerk chicken was very spicey! Loved it.
Well worth a visit.

We visited many restaurants in the south gap and this was probably our fav. Great fish, simple and traditional.

Place called Sweet Potatoes, yet when I attempted to order some Sweet Potatoes with my meal, it was not available, together with approx. 4 other dishes?! Rum cake was dry and my sword fish was like card board. No music was being played, so girls next to our table had to provide their own music, thank heavens for I pod's. Very bad service and staff do not even crack a smile. Old and trashy at the best of times!
