My wife & I just returned from an excellent 7-day stay at Villa Maria Barbados. The main villa is better than a 4-star hotel. It is gated, very modern, well maintained and decorated. This villa is situated in a safe sub-urban neighborhood within walking distance of Oistins & St Lawrence Gap where all the restaurants, pubs, lounges etc. are located. Dover, Miami & Maxwell beaches are all within walking distance.

The main villa consists of four units(1 Bdrm, 2 Bdrm & 3 Bdrms) one of which the owner was staying in during the time we were there. There is also a small cottage behind the main villa. There is also a pool and BBQ grill for the guests to use.

Each unit is self contained & very private. The 2 Bdrm unit in which we stayed was about 900 sq ft and located on the top floor. It contained a full kitchen with complete sets of eating & cooking utensils(pots, pans, spoons, knives, plates, cutting boards etc.) and appliances such as a gas stove with oven, fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker etc. We made most of our meals by using the kitchen facilities and purchasing foodstuff from the SuperMart in Oistins which is about 3 mins away using the $2 Bds/trip mini-buses or a cool 15 mins walk. Only things missing from this setup is matches, paper towels & dish washing soap.
Wifi & cable is also included and work well to our satisfaction.
Each bedroom had a queen size bed and a dresser with mirror and closet space for two people. Each bedroom also had their own remote control AC unit which made sleeping at nights a comfortable experience.
The bathroom has a stand up shower with hot & cold water along with a vanity sink.
It is also very relaxing to sit on the front porch and read a book or observe the sun set.

Most nights we returned very late to the villa it was very brightly lit on the outside which made us feel very safe. Many days we walked around the neighborhood and was able to spoke to the friendly Bajans who lived in this wonderful area. We also venture up Maxwell Hill which is just behind the villa. And almost everyday we hopped on one of the reggae buses to go Bridgetown, Oistins or the Gap.
Don't forget to check out the Fish Fry in Oistins on Friday night, Live Jazz at Old Jamm Inn on Thursday night and be Carib Beach Bar on Sunday evenings. For authentic caribbean food at a great price be sure to check out Christine's aka Just Stop which is located in Dover Beach at the Carib Blue guest house. She will take care of you with home cooked Fried Flying Fish with Peas & Rice/Macaroni Pie & Salad or Baked Chicken Breast or West Indian Stewed Beef. She is a wonderful caribbean lady and always have some good stories to tell. If you need more spicy food head down to Bridgetown and check our Kumarie's roti shop in the small mall across from Fairchild Car Park. There you will find a wide variety of Guyanese, Trinidadian, Jamaican & Bajan food at a reasonable price.

Be sure to reserve your airport pick-up/drop-off with Rick who will always on time and very helpful.
Special thanks to Rick and his team for making our stay a wonderful one.

Just got back from an 8 day stay at Villa Maria. Accommodation was perfect for me, my husband and 2 teenage children. Everyone had a good sized room, lovely and cool at night, spacious living quarters. Pool was perfect, and we made the most of the grill. The location of the Villa is ideal - very close to beautiful beaches, grocery store, Oistins, tennis courts, drive-in movie, the West coast and our favourite hotel/beach - The Crane. I had a new question for Rick every day and he was very kind to address them all! We enjoyed all of the neighbours. We loved being back in Barbados and Villa Maria was a really great place for us to call home for a few days.
Thanks Rick. Hope to see you again in the next year or two!

My wife and I stayed at Villa Maria for the month of February (2014). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found that Villa Maria was a clean, friendly and well-run establishment. While we had booked the cottage for our stay, Rick (the owner) upgraded us for free to the one bedroom unit for the first ten days as it wasn't rented. Rick usually lives on the property but had rented his unit for part of our stay. He was at the Villa more than once a day, so he was easily available (and we had his cell number). When Rick wasn't available, Jonathan (the property manager) and his girlfriend were just a phone call away and addressed issues promptly. Our "big" issue was the lack of a can opener in the cottage - and one was delivered quickly.
The Villa is located in a quiet subdivision and as noted by others is close to Oistins and fairly close to St. Lawrence gap, to which we usually walked one way and rode the "ZR" home. We felt completely safe walking the streets day or night and met only one pan handler - who was very polite - during our stay. Do not miss the Friday fish fry & party at Oistins. Chillin' and Grillin' became our favorite restaurant.
The one bedroom unit at Villa Maria is spacious, well-equipped and relaxing. It has a front porch which we used often, especially for happy hour. The cottage is smaller with the main seating area being a love seat. There is an outdoor seating area, but it is in the flow of warm air from the Villa's air conditioning. and the view is of the back wall of the villa. This didn't pose a problem as we carried our coffee (mornings) or drinks (happy hour) to the pool where there is plenty of seating and a nice view. The cottage too is well-equipped and we really enjoyed our stay there.
All in all, Villa Maria was a great choice as a place to stay and Barbados - especially the people - was a real treat. Thanks to Rick, Jonathan and all the "hired help" for making our stay so enjoyable.

Just returned from 2 weeks at Villa Maria. Everything about the Villa was exactly as described on the Website. We were in the largest unit (3 beds) which will accommodate 6 people comfortably. The unit was very well maintained and exceptionally clean. Samoan does a great job. The pool was a great advantage as was the BBQ, this was a nice area to relax and enjoy the facilities. The villa is really well situated in a quiet residential area where we always felt very safe. 10-15 minutes walk to Dover beach,15-20 minutes walk to Miami beach and 15-20 minute walk to Oistins for the Friday night fish fry, well worth the trip. however, the RZ’s are a great form of transport for $2 anywhere on the South/ South West coast, they are quite the experience.
Rick was great, very knowledgeable of the area and will give good friendly advice on which excursions are good (without pushing any). His taxi service from and to the airport is worth taking, he is very reliable.
We would definitely recommend staying at the Villa Maria.

My wife and I stayed at Villa Maria for 4 weeks in Jan/Feb 2013. This was our second trip to Barbados. We rented the cottage but when we arrived the construction wasn't complete so we stayed in the one bedroom in the main building. We wish we would have stayed there because the cottage was somewhat disappointing. By the way, that is not the picture of the cottage you see on the website. The main issue is the size of the cottage. The kitchen, bedroom and washroom are good but the living area is very cramped. We weren;t able to invite friends over for dinner-no room for 4 people. There is no table to eat on. So we ate on the coffee table in front of the sofa. Rick was nice enough to bring us a higher table. to relieve the back ache. We could eat on the kitchen counter but our legs wouldn't fit under the counter top. There was no internet or wi-fi. After telling Rick we REALLY needed it he worked hard to bring in a cable. To get wi-fi we needed to go to the pool area. Hot water was not available in the kitchen or the bathroom sink. There was hot water in the shower. From inside the cottage you can only see the back of the main building. And there is no balcony. I have to say though, Rick did his best to accommodate us. On the positive side, the pool is very nice. The area is quiet and the location is convenient: 5 minutes or so to the beach and a nice 15-20 minute walk to Oistins.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay in the Cottage. We welcome our guests' comments and suggestions and we strive to make everyone's stay a positive experience.
The Cottage accommodates up to 2 people and is located behind the main building. We are sorry you felt the living space was not large enough and appreciate the fact you acknowledged Rick's efforts to make your stay more comfortable. The price of the Cottage is lower than the Main house thus allowing us to offer options to travellers on a budget or sometimes last minute travellers.
We hope on your next visit to Barbados you return to the Villa and stay in the one bedroom, which sounds like you enjoyed.

Stayed here in March 2014 with my family and sister in laws family . 4 children and 4 adults. I had a genuinely great time. Rick was really nice, the rooms were clean and new, the pool was really small but the kids enjoyed it and I loved the BBQ ! Rick setup a fishing charter for us and even had the fish cleaned for us when we returned. Great place for the family. The grocery store was a 15 minute walk away. I recommend you get a bicycle or two the guests can use to go to the store. This is not a complaint just a suggestion;) If I go back to Barbados, I will definitely stay at villa Maria.
